The whole point of the game is to convince your opponents that the opposite of what you're saying is true. Hence David's exaggerated look at the card and general demeanor of someone, who's making shit up. I don't think Richard was necessarily believing him but rather saw an opportunity to play along for comedic effect - which is the ultimate goal of the show anyway.

Normally I assume David and Lee go to the producers with "Hey, I've got a new true thing you can use." In this case he knew so little about it that I wonder if they saw the article and decided to surprise him with it.

Or he could have just been pretending to remember so little about it. With how little he seems into music (I can relate), if he’d immediately known the album title or any of the songs and someone could confirm he was right, they would have known for sure it was true, because why else would he know that?
