I wish TV here in America was even half as fun as it is in England.
@raistormrs3 жыл бұрын
it wouldn't work with the humour over there, Stephen Fry explained quite well why. In essence the british love to fail and find it hilarious, american audiences don't. they tried those concepts and the consensus from the test audiences was, what's the point of this show, what do they win, why do they have points if they don't really win anything, what's funny about that... the point here is that half of those shows are not even scripted properly, from a american point of view. the american audience is used to fully scripted shows, perfect example would be "have i got news for you", if you haven't already, go watch the episodes hosted by Boris Johnson, such utter chaos would never run in America.

@@raistormrs Curb Your Enthusiasm is excellent, although it's never been popular.
@UncleEbenezer773 жыл бұрын
@@raistormrs "what do they win" -- yeah, that sounds about right. There are some people here that enjoy self-deprecating humor; hence the popularity of David Letterman and Conan O'Brien. And some who enjoy those who joke at the expense of others; case in point, Jay Leno's popularity -- but none of them are on the air anymore. The English panel game shows remind me of American TV in the mid 20th century -- I think the US is now much more cynical, and too much so to enjoy your innocent, joyous type of humor.

You honestly thought she was stupid? Don't you have a sense of humour at all?
@BD-yl5mh3 жыл бұрын
@@evildoesnotsleep-x2b I was unsure, as my previous knowledge of Catherine came more or less from only one other clip of her (in which she’s quite terrible at a really easy maths round). In that clip, the other comics react with what seems more like second hand embarrassment, rather than admiration of her commitment to character (which is what you see in this example). I would even argue that she may still be legitimately terrible at maths, as some people are. But with the addition of this new clip to my mental picture of the woman, I can now see how she’s constructed her persona, and how her fellow comics appreciate it. Also, I would have been fine with you calling me stupid for being unable to previously decipher her act, but saying I lack a sense of humour? That just doesn’t make sense? Missing one joke does not mean someone is entirely humourless. I would even hazard a guess that because you and I both find ourselves commenting on the same compilation, that we may in fact have quite similar senses of humour No, I am not David Mitchell operating under a pseudonym
