I think where you are at, at a given time, has more to do with how many orders you get, than whether you are parked or driving. I think the way it works is that the app gets an order then prioritizes who to send it to based on how close they are to the restaurant that the order is being picked up at. So, I identify clusters of likely pickup locations and make sure that the next order is going to take me close to one of them when I drop off. I think these clusters actually come and go sometimes before the app can update it's hotzones. Like it lags.... hotspots pop up about 5 minutes before the app shows them, and are still shown on the app after they have been actually dead for about five minutes. So if you know your market well enough, you are always going to be 5-10 minutes ahead of most of the other dashers in your area which means you will get the pick of the better orders by default. But I think it is even more straightforward than that- if you have six places that are normally hotspots sometime during the dinner rush, then you always want a drop off to take you near one of the ones that the app says is less busy at the moment. Because the app is behind and by the time you drop off and start driving way, you'll have a bunch of orders to pick from as the zone heats up, well before it is even a hotspot shown on the app. Maybe convoluted, I dunno, but it works for me.

You aren't getting less orders because you are parked, but you are parked because you are getting less orders. DD really pings the closest drivers to the merchants they have orders to fulfill if its busy enough if your sitting you will still get plenty of offers but if your sitting in an area that has slowed down then just sitting will prevent you from getting a good amount of offers. Sometimes if your sitting and you notice its been a while with no offer just start moving like even if you just start moving in a parking lot just circle it a little and you'll see you will get an offer because it shows your moving toward a certain direction where an order might be. I've tested this out so many times particularly with DD. GH will ping an order for a merchant literally 14 minutes away, they've done that to me several times. Its actually a bad thing because they have you driving way too far to pick up. UE is about midway, not too far but they will ping drivers still a distance from a merchant. DD really tries to get the absolute closest and if your too far they will not offer it to you period.

I don't think the DD cares, as long as they have orders they will send it. If it's not busy I think some of us get paranoid thinking they are being silence. I'm telling you with all the dashers we have, etc, DD doesn't have time to waste on cherry pickers. My opinion is that they don't care, but when you do get an order they get paid anyway. There are more cherry pickers then top dashers, so if they got rid of cherry pickers, most of their work force will be gone. DD tries to get the cherry picker to gamble with hidden tips, this is why they are not transparent with us.
@toughlovetom68873 жыл бұрын
I agree. They need the cherry pickers. That's why they keep trying strategies to trick the cherry pickers into being less picky. But, they want and need all the drivers they can get. PSYCHOLOGY 101: “a watched pot never boils”. Of course the water boils, and it boils at the same rate whether it’s watched or not. If you’re sitting there bored, waiting for orders, time will seem to pass more slowly. If you’re driving, your mind has additional tasks to perform and is at least partially occupied. Thus the concept of “distracted driving”. If you’re driving, the same number of orders come in, but it SEEMS like they come more frequently, because you’re more occupied. Add to that the fact that orders don’t come in a steady fashion and it’s a perfect storm. Human brains have evolved to discern and identify patterns. Even when there really are no patterns. This is also the same reason why your days off can seem to fly, yet being bored at work or school can seem to take a huge amount of time. The human mind is amazing, but it’s an unreliable narrator when it comes to accurate time keeping.

Oh yea, UDP (if I got his usern right), figured this out. It's all based on your statistics. DD will send the order to someone who has a higher rating even if you're right there at the restaurant. The 'algorithm' takes into consideration your acceptance activity for the session. So if it sees you're constantly busy, it'll keep sending you orders. App wants to keep you working. If you keep declining orders, it sees you don't want to work.

I could have told you that sitting still does not stop you from getting orders with doordash. When I first started doordash I drove from hotspot to hotspot to hotspot to hotspot and I was doing was wasting gas. Then I had the leader of a group that I had joined tell us that we needed to find our own hotspots because the hotspots that doordash has usually are garbage so I found my own Sweet spot in our town there's a couple of less sweet spots that you could go to but this particular one I've been using for over a year and it still works well for me 99 times out of 100. I'm not saying I don't get orders when I'm on the road like coming back from a delivery but I live in a fairly rural area where I dash and this one spot has been my sweet spot and has been a sweet spot for other people as well there's times when I can't pull into the parking lot without getting hit with an order again so that's my sweet spot and I've sat there are many a day waiting on the really good orders and turning down tons of garbage orders so rather than deciding that on your own experience the best thing to do is reach out and ask other people may not work some places but I'm promise you in West Georgia it works I'm glad you proved yourself wrong.

Maybe it has to do with your market? I'm in large single market city. Almost all stores are on three streets. One of these I avoid like the plague as most are duplicate fast food on poor tipping side of town with longer drives..more lights..etc. I park in central location on the best street..catch orders from the two best hotspots and sometimes pick up from the second best street if drop off puts me there. I pause on the blacklist area if for some reason I find myself dropping off that way...usually on the loop on a quick drive back to my fav spot. I think being constantly on the move just isn't applicable in my city...but in some places, it could make a difference. Comes down to experimenting and figuring out your market/markets.

Chicken or egg? Do you get less orders when parked, or is your only chance to park when you're not getting orders? In my week of experience, I am most likely to get an order within 20-30 seconds of confirming a delivery. When that happens I don't have an opportunity to park at a hotspot. If you even get to the hotspot without an order, you've likely already gone a few minutes receiving nothing...while driving.

If dd truly doesn't care about the drivers, maybe they do not care about punishing you for parking, declining etc either. Maybe sometimes there's just a lull in the ratio of orders to drivers. Maybe there really is just a computer looking for close drivers, using your ratings to break ties. Maybe we're taking it personally when a computer doesn't find an order we're best for periodically. Maybe the whole top dasher thing just keeps picky cranks out of the pool, in which case cherry pickers and top dashers alike are happier when business is slow?????

Can I just add something here? The reason you are parked is because you are not getting orders. It goes to reason that if you parked because you were not receiving orders then that is because there are none, at least not any reaching you because another dasher accepted it first. Obviously if you were getting orders, that you would take, then you wouldn't be parked. This should go without saying. People are giving their anecdotal evidence and mostly coincidences to reinforce the conspiracy theory that this video is addressing. Idk how you guys do it but I fricking swear every time I get to my 3rd hour mark (8pm) and I'm at 20/hr or more, it drastically slows down for me and the order quality also gets worse. Whether I'm moving or not. But it does feel like sitting still makes it worse.

I think the theory off non top dashers getting punished with mostly all rejected orders with a decrease in pay is the case and if your the only driver close too a good order you’ll get that order cause your the best dasher for the order. But i think tony gives you rejected orders cause he wants fools too accept it as the norm too give him billions in his pocket at the end of the day

Been in hotspots during peak hours and and up getting little to no orders. Kinda get to thinkin someone at door dash is behind a pc picking who can get orders based on how happy they are with the driver. I know thats crazy but i feel like theyve Capped me recently. All my numbers are in the 90s except the acceptance rate because I hate low ball orders. We drive some of us and our cars require upkeep and i dont take cheapskate bs. Its like they punish us for cherry picking but i personally remember my car is my car not theirs. If it was a 9 to 5 not paying me nearly enough or fairly, Id quit. I believe theyre able to follow us drivers by watching some gps tracker and if you arent rolling around wasting gas they dont send you orders. Sometimes. Maybe they do this every so often hoping we continue to believe an algorithm is in charge and its not a person screwing us. I think it is people, actively capping drivers who dont do what gets the company a crap load of money because lets be honest, door dash is making BANK while its drivers have to go go go and burn gas to even feel good about doing the work. We take alot of blame for cold food etc as well. When thats not fair and there is a reason that happens that isnt the drivers fault.

I don’t think it should be called cherry picking. I’m not trying to strike gold, just find orders worth doing. Try something like “taking out the garbage” or “cutting the crap”. Maybe “avoiding landmines”. Anyone got a better term?

I usually am parked when I get my orders, seems to be fine for me after months of driving. Sure things have been a little slower since things opened up in my market, but it’s usually steady during peak hours. I almost find it opposite, while I’m driving I don’t get much. Just depends.

There could be other variables.. like how many other dashers are in the area. If there aren't many or any other dashers near you it probably just sends you the orders anyway.

I really don't see the correlation between parked and cherry picking, lol. Doesn't make sense. Cherry picking is cherry picking, whether parked or on the move. A sensible question is whether you get more orders when driving around verses parked. With these apps, it's been my experience that once you're actively taking orders and delivering they keep you moving- the algorithm has a lock on you and will keep you going. Whether or not you quickly get orders when you first go active from a stand still is market dependent, as well as how busy it is. I start my day from the couch and get orders to choose from, of which I cherry pick until I get the right one to head out. I do not drive around in the hopes it'll score orders. That wastes precious gas. It's also dangerous working the app while driving. Be safe out there.
