Instagram became so annoying. It does not show You the creators You follow but it shows paid ads from mediocre "Influencers". If You do not pay for advertising, no one from Your followers see Your posts. It also changed to short videos which I hate from my soul instead of pictures. If I would like to watch shitty short videos, I would create a TikTok account for that (I do not have one).

Does it, tho? Why would it go back to the old way? Target demographic changed. If you call yourself a "photographer," you're not the target audience anymore. Or simply don't use AI tools like generative fill or content aware fill=) Good ol' manual clone-stamp, healing brush and all the regular stuff is ok. The gap between reality and artificial reality is getting closer and closer, and yet, in the same spirit, further and further away. I love it. Let's make the gap immense: there are photos and videos that capture reality as it was, and those that adjust reality. I want to know when something is in one camp or the other. And the wider the gap between, I hope, the more likely people and companies are to create new/more tools for capturing reality in the moment. A return to analog to match the emergence of digital. Your film examples are such a great illustration of what's possible.

Richard Mosse is incredible! When I first learned about him I converted the only DLSR I had (a Canon T6) to a modified 590 nm infrared camera. I eventually got a new visible light camera but I was shooting infrared for a while! I still do! It’s pretty incredible. A video on Richard Mosse would be EPIC!

Instagram is a hot mess right now. I'm a bladesmith that mostly makes kitchenware, and their AI has told almost all of us doing this work that we're offensive and our work can't be shown to non followers... Their overreaching is going to be the downfall of their app...

Very pleased to see that you’re sending a roll of Aerochrome to Jason. He deserves it. That was a very nice gesture Pete. ❤

I'm so glad you posted this. It happened to me for a shot that used ZERO generative fill. ZERO AI. AND I still got that tag. I posted but I was upset, I was so proud of the photo I took and IG told me jokes on you

I've been shooting digital infrared photography since 2015 and I don't think I've ever seen anyone with legit Aerochrome before. Very cool. A company called Kolarivision, which began as an IR-conversion company for digital cameras, created an "IR Chrome" filter to use with full-spectrum conversions that gives you the Aerochrome look right out of the camera. Normally, there'd be a lot of editing and channel swapping to get the sky blue, leaves pink/red, etc. Their filter is the easiest way to do it, but you can get close using a regular filter (I think yellow worked best on my camera, but I'd have to check), then doing some light editing.

Instagram just called out all the wannabes. That's why the rage. While you could heavily edit a photo in the film days in the darkroom, it took a LOT of skill and time to do so. Photographers worked hard to get it right in camera. The only things that were really done was contrast, dodging/burning, and colour-grading. Magnum photographers printed black borders around their photos to show that the entire negative was used to make the print to prove that the the image was what was actually caught on film without cropping or other manipulation. Photographers make pictures. Those who work extensively in photo editing software are digital image makers. Instagram is finally going back to its roots and letting photographers be recognized as photographers and digital image makers be recognized as digital image makers.

It really depends on how you export the photo too. If you use generative fill in photoshop and then bring it into Lightroom to make your edits and then upload, IG won't tag it as "Made with AI".
