That firebird looks like it was a leftover from a David carridine movie called cannonball. It’s the right color for sure and the body kit looks like it was intended to cover wider tires which the movie car had. More then likely this car was probably just sitting around the backlot and they had a use for it so they threw some fresh tires on it and got it running. Based on the missing front spoiler it might have been doing camera work

This single scene was better than whole Knight Rider 2008 series. And I'm sad to say, it's also better than many chases made later in the show, when stunt drivers were no even trying, or they were trying on corners, but on straight you could see the T/A was driving slowly at stable speeds, not to mention footage recycled every single episode, like this poorly taken turn in the mountains when KITT appears from behind a rock wall.

The red Trans Am is nearly the same (if not the same) as the one Coy Cannonball Buckman drove and his rival was named Cade Redman (similar to "Redmond" as this driver was named) doing much of the same driving.
