KITT Takes Down a Plane! | Knight Rider

Can you imagine working on this show? There must have been a team of guys dedicated to making sure KITT has that luster in each shot, like some kind of vehicular hair & makeup. I can't keep a shine that bright on my car for more than a day.

LOL 2:28 you see the plank of wood the car used to vault over the fence. It's laughable, but at the same time to use that sort of ramp was both risky and took a lot of driver skill to ensure perfect alignment. They used proper ramps in other episodes so not sure why they went with planks in this one. Oh well.

At 3:21 If you look closely, you can see after K.I.T.T rams the plane, he comes to a stop. But then out of nowhere, he comes around the plane. Edit: I also noticed at 3:28 K.I.T.T does a little burnout when Michael stops. K.I.T.T also has a stunt steering wheel.

Knight Rider was popular with both children and adults. My father and I used to watch Knight Rider together every Friday nights when it was new. We watched every episode until the very last season and then we continued to watch it during its syndication. All my friends from school and the neighborhood watched the show and we would talk about all of the cool things KITT and Micheal would do in that week’s episode. My father’s friends and coworkers also watched Knight Rider and they were all adults, so yeah I’d say it was popular with both audiences. I always wanted the large scale KITT and Micheal Knight figure toy set but my folks and myself could never find it at our local toy stores but I did have a die-cast Knight Rider KITT that I played heavily with. I still own it to this day and I’m still a big fan of the show. I remember being absolutely blown away by KITT’s Super Pursuit Mode during Season 4. I always wanted to know what other new features and abilities They would’ve added to KITT if the show had more seasons. I think Knight Rider had a large enough fan base to merit at least two more seasons but they ended it at the 4th season. I have so many fond memories watching Knight Rider and it will always have a special place in my heart!

I was thinking the same thing, it’s the only field in the area with hills surrounding it. They filmed in nearby Covina for at least two episodes, I grew up in the area and recognized Citrus Ave immediately.

Squicx Especially when the network/studio was putting up the budget for live stunts and Hasselhoff was turning in good performances. Subtle ones, not cringeworthy pantomime where he was playing the character as cocky and arrogant. The dialogue was also hugely better for William Daniels than in later seasons. The 2nd was still okay, but not on par with the 1st.

Squicx Well, they didn't, they staged a fair amount of new setpieces throughout those years - but they begun using miniatures in S2 and that permeated S3 and 4. They also changed stunt directors in the 2nd Season and his style/look wasn't a patch on Bob Bralver's (in the 1st).

Squicx You know, I've never quite studied the difference. I know an unused shot from the movie where Tanya's men are chasing KITT down the highway (in the chopper) erroneously appeared in the very last episode, 'Voodoo Knight'. The searchlight from it is literally blinding right over the car, as it drives by a camera positioned on the road. But yeah, they recycled a lot of early footage as stock - just like they did with "Airwolf" and "The A-Team" van.

That Cessna was completely totaled when KITT *coldly* crashed into it. Surprising that KITT allowed Michael to activate the Turbo Boost under these circumstances as it was a slightly risky maneuver Michael Knight was attempting. Understandable in desperation to prevent the criminal evading capture and arrest as the Cessna was 'near take off speed' but it could have killed the aircraft pilot as a result. The Foundation specifically programmed KITT to 'preserve human life' so the Car wouldn't be abused by whoever controls it or be used for malicious purposes. A lesson the Foundation learned so well from their experiences with KITT's proto type KARR which was only programmed for 'self preservation' and that caused havoc (in two episodes) when thieves broke into FLAG's storage facility & stole the proto type vehicle which was nearly as advanced as KITT but lacked the more humanistic programming that the later KITT model would have. So would have thought KITT would initially protest Michael's action in Turbo Boosting into the Cessna's rear end and would suggested a less risky alternative measure in preventing a take off.

Plenty episodes show that KITT can perform plenty of potentially lethal manuvers as long as there is no certainty of killing someone. Perhaps he can see and calculate so precisely he knows he won't kill anyone in the process, or he is only programmed not to perform deliberate murder.

Jody Reeder there were 20 kitts made from 1982-1984. There are only 5 known survivors screen used kitts alive today. If you want a replica you’re looking at about 75k or so. Check out jay Leno’s garage. There is an episode where he has a screen used kitt with the owner talking about it.

You can see the prop beginning spin-up at 2:34. Once it gets to full speed, it will, and did, look like there isn't a propeller. That's an optical illusion caused by the rotational speed of the propeller.

It looks like there's some damage to the place where the prop would have attached to the craft. I guess that _could_ be tape or patching, but if it were, it was a very sloppy tape/patch job. Unless they did it like that on purpose to make it look like damage. If that's the case, that's some fine attention to detail.

@@piotrmalewski8178 I've never heard anything remotely resembling K.I.T.T.'s engine, so I'm not going to sit there and pretend I'm some sort of expert who can tell you exactly where and what engine his turbine sound emanates from, I just know it doesn't sound like a Trans Am, that's for sure. You do hear a standard Trans Am sound in one or two earlier episodes in Season One and early Season 2 where they strangely haven't added the studio sound effects, but it's rare and you'd have to be quick to notice.

@@Longlostpuss In real world the background sound, and the lead and only engine sound from Knight of the Phoenix definitely is taken from some gas turbine engine. The sample often played when KITT is moving away at high speed is very close to the sound of passing Abrams tank, minus the tracks noise, and the sound which can be heard in one episode when KITT is buried underground and builds up power trying to eject himself out, sound 1 to 1 like Howmet TX- a turbine powered racing car.
