Be kind to yourself! When you reach a certain level of proficiency, the rate of noticeable progress does slow down, because you’re perfecting, rather than taking massive steps from zero. You already started off strong in your first video, so it’s normal that there’s not a massive gaping chasm of difference at this point. Your tones sound amazing, your speech is natural and fluent, and your smile is, as always, infectious. Great job! Ga yau!

No need to apologize Grace ❤️ You always do a good job because you are willing to learn 💪 All the best with your studies ❤️ Btw, “perfect,” in your context, you can say, colloquially, 「超正」。 You can also mark down those phrases that you can't say in Cantonese during your video, and find which Cantonese words you can use, that will enlarge your vocabulary. All the best!

Don’t worry about the speed, it will come naturally when you practice more. Honestly, i rendered this video x2 faster, it sounds nearly as a native speaker! Well done, keep it up💪🏻

I actually feels you sounds like a native speaker! Your intonation is really good! If you really want to level up your Cantonese, learn more expressions from your HK friends, such as "點呀你dim ar nei(how are you)" "好衰架你ho sui ga nei(you are so bad)” that would makes you get closer to a native Cantonese speaker :) One more thing, no need to rush your words, just like me, if I rush my words, people can't hear me clearly.
@li_tsz_fung3 жыл бұрын
But I feel like her way of rushing words is quite natural. Many language learn can't find the right timing to pause, but the way she quickly speaks 「姐係呢」「但係」「真係好」 is pretty native. We pause after those words

Your Cantonese is fantastic - I hope one day I can speak half as well as you! I love that you speak a little slower because it’s great listening practice as an absolute beginner. Thanks for producing videos when you can between studies!
@auwanho2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s obvious that you have spoken way faster with phrases what you frequently use and you are so much smoother. I think you can try to let go of the fear of mispronouncing and just try to speak really fast for like an exercise and listen to the playback to see if you could understand what you are talking about (or how bad it is) And dont be too stressed about mispronouncing the tone because as native sometimes I do too, and most of the time we still can understand pretty well. Just they might laugh at it for a while.

My adult children and I are Chinese born in USA and we can’t speak Cantonese as well as you do. It is hard to perfect another language unless one is thoroughly immersed in it 24/7. You are so talented and smart, I hope you would have the opportunity to study abroad in Hong Kong or China so that you would be able to perfect your Cantonese and Mandarin. You may not sound like a completely fluent native speaker YET but I am really impressed with you. Just keep speaking your Cantonese and you will make even more progress.

Since Cantonese is your secondary language not your native language you can lose it if you don't make use of it over a while. If it wasn't for the pandemic, you would have visited Hong Kong by now. This is the only part of your life you are missing, using Cantonese 24x7 in your life. At first when people look at you, they will approach you speaking English but keep speaking Cantonese so that they know you are fluent. Therefore they will talk back to you in Cantonese. Always approach HK people by talking to them in Cantonese first this will avoid people speaking to you in English.
@JustMonikaWithMe3 жыл бұрын
You did improved some and I agree you may need something for a break tho. First your pronunciation is great so people are impressived, then time to time theres odd grammer which might be shadowed by your other language habbit. Maybe focus on your AL now, see if you like to set a real target to challenge yourself later. #GlobalBritain 😜

Linguistic agree that Cantonese is closer to classical Chinese in Grammer and pronunciation, if you read ancient Chinese poetry in Cantonese, it really rhyme well as compare with mandarin, Cantonese originate in Guangdong Canton, nowadays young generation of Guangdong Canton does not speak and learn Cantonese, this is very worrying, Grace being a foreigner learn Cantonese because she knows we need to preserve Cantonese language and we cannot let the language which had 2000 years of history died and disappear in Canton, we have to learn from Grace of her good effort in learning Cantonese which is not her mother tongue, so let us being a native Cantonese preserve our Cantonese language and culture💖😃
You haven't improved much because you were already very good before however I would say you almost sound like a native speaker now that you speak faster. The only mistake I notice in this video was at 1:04 where you said "hey mm-hey jun-ga?" where you used the wrong tone for "ga" but then you repeated the same sentence again with the right tone for "ga" so I think you are well aware of what tones to use. Your Cantonese is amazing.

Wow, I was actually looking through KZbin to see if I could listen to spoken Cantonese (most were learning ones), then I stumbled on your 2020 video. I don't really know people who speak Cantonese around my area, so it's fascinating to hear people speak Cantonese. I'm not particularly sure if I can be considered a native speaker considering I've only spoken it up until I was two, and forgot it. What resources did you use? Or did you primarily use Ling?

@@Guresu You are very welcome, Grace. By the way believe it or not, you have a richer Cantonese vocabulary then I do. For example, you know how to say "share" and "comments" in Cantonese and I don't. I was born speaking Cantonese to my relatives but raised in the U.S. So my English has push my Cantonese off a bit.
