fun fact - Lyn, the vocalist for most of the persona 5/royal game songs, doesnt actually speak English (or at least didn't when she recorded the songs). So she was being coached on how to vocalise the words without having the prior knowledge of what the music meant.

"Hearbreak, Heartbreak" is a rainy day theme, and "Your Affection" is a sunny day theme. They both fit the vibe of the game and it's great. The BGM during battle is also great, so please listen to it.

"Heart*beat*, Heartbreak", and it's for overcast days. Rainy days have no music, because of plot reasons

"Heartbeat, Heartbreak" plays when you're in the school grounds and "Your Affection" plays when you are elsewhere in town but neither during the rain

I love how No More What Ifs is from the perspective of Akechi given his relationship with Joker throughout the story. It's really telling of his character and implies that he has second thoughts about his actions but decides to see through till the end regardless of what happens. He is hesitant and afraid about where this path might lead him and given how the game ends he is right to have been worried. Overall Royal does a great service to Akechi by adding more complexity to his character and his song adds to it by showing us some of his own thought process which is what I love about it.

The composer for the Persona series is Shoji Meguro who started working for Atlus on Persona 1. He's also done music for other Atlus games like Shin Megami Tensei 3, SMT Digital Devil Saga 1&2 and Trauma Center. In my mind he's one of the best video game composers of all time and he's an especially versatile one. He does metal, he does jazz, he does hip hop, he does J-pop, he does really anything you could ask for and he excels at it. Three games, three singers. Yumi Kawamura in P3, Shihoko Hirata in P4 and Lyn Inaizumi in P5. There's also a rapper on the P3 soundtrack called Lotus Juice but we didn't hear him in this video. In addition, there are the Persona Q games which are kind o crossover games between Persona 3, 4 and 5 and the singers from all three games are all on that soundtrack, it's actually really cool. Maze of Life and New Cinema Labyrinth are a couple of great tracks from those games. I really love Persona 3, it might be my favourite game of all time. I have a big P3 tattoo over my left upper arm, I love this game. Some suggestions for tracks to listen to: Iwatodai Dorm, Mass Destruction and Memories of You (aka Kimi no Kioku).

As you mentioned, Persona 3's main theme is Death. The term "Memento Mori" is a significant theme throughout the game. P4 was more of a hit compared to P3, since they had more QoL and modern updates. The theme is more light hearted and it carried over to P5. Older Persona games like P1 and P2 are more darker and closer to their parent series, Shin Megami Tensei, which had games where the world literally gets destroyed several different ways with more dark theme of death and rebirth. P3 is moreso the bridge imo between Persona and SMT, it had sufficient dark and light hearted themes.

P1 and P2 have some great music too, would recommend Kama Palace from Persona 1 and Change Your Way from Persona 2. Their PSP remasters which came out after Persona 4 also have some great music like Dream of Butterfly, School Days, and Unbreakable Tie.

@@mizzix Yeah even a lot of Persona fans aren't familiar with the earlier soundtracks, especially outside of P1 PSP. It's a shame since P1 PS1 is personally my favorite soundtrack in the series, and P2 music is amazing as well. Wish they got more love. And from the title, I definitely would have expected to hear some stuff from P1 lol

13:13 each persona game 3-5 has a different singer that does the vocals on most of/all of the songs for the game! for persona 3 it was yumi kawamura (and lotus juice for the songs in that ost that have rap), for persona 4 shijoko hirata, and for persona 5 its lyn inaizumi!

Mass Destruction and Battlehymn for everyone soul are really one of the best songs in persona 3 For persona 4 you could check the the fog and I will face myself Persona 5 has some really nice battle themes as well, like take over. All of those are battle themes btw lol

persona 3 and 4 soundtracks really fly under the radar of most music composers/musicians etc. on youtube, glad you check them out and discovered their beuty; most people don't realise how good p3 and p4 songs are compared to the flashiness of p5. Also, do more p3/p4 please. :)

Hi! If you want to see more Persona music or songs in general, I recommend watching the different Persona concerts that are on KZbin, especially the 2017 where you can see the 3 different singers of all 3 games perform these songs

29:02 actually, this song plays at the jazz club whenever the singer goes to sing, which isn't every night, and the singer is modeled after Lyn, the singer for the persona 5 songs, she was put in the game as the singer of the jazz club

Yes, Persona 3, 4, and 5 have very different musical identities from each other. P3’s ost tends to be heavier, P4’s is more upbeat and poppy, and P5’s is funkier. Another way each game differs is the way that characters summon their personas. In P3, a person unlocks their persona through near-death experiences and subsequently use gun-like tools called evokers to trigger that same feeling to re-summon their personas in combat. In P4, characters unlock their personas by facing their inner selves and accepting that it’s who they are on the inside, no matter how bad it is, and summon their personas later by simply breaking a tarot card that represents them as a person. In P5, personas are a manifestation of rebellion and are unlocked through a meaningful act of rebellion, then are re-summoned in combat by removing a mask which represents the face that the characters show to the world.

Yes, the major theme of Persona 3 is Death. By accepting death, your own mortality, you come to appreciate life and embrace it. Death is coming. You can't do anything about it- you can only live your best life.

Some other titles to look into for the series: Persona Q and Q2 are crossover spinoffs, with some of my favorite music in the series! Q2 notably has its opening movie "Road Less Taken" as well as "Cinematic Tale" which include all of the vocalists together. The PSP version of the first Persona is divisive in its soundtrack, mainly because the new music clashes with the game's more gritty presentation while the original soundtrack was more fittingly atmospheric. But imo the music itself is still quite good, and features the same singer from P3. The opening movie might be one of my favorites musically. As far as major vocal songs, there's "Let the Butterflies Spread Until the Dawn", "School Days", "Lone Prayer", and "Bloody Destiny". (the final boss theme "Pandora - Last Battle" rocks too!)

Persona 5 IS my fav both in themes and music but not gonna lie I loved the more 'pop' stuff going on in Persona 3 and 4 a ton too (P3 tended to go more funk and hip hop along with its pop, whereas P4 was more likely to pull in pure piano or rock elements). AAhhhhh~ The music of Persona always fits the themes and ton of the games so well~

For more Rocky and more erecemt persona 5 songs, I recommend some from Persona 5 Strikers, "Last surprise (strikers version)" im sure you head the original last surprise while playing or another video, "daredevil" and "counter strike" are my 3 suggestions

Oh I missed this video when it came out... Well just gotta say that every persona game from the 3 onwards has a main topic reflected in their songs, like the 3 being about Death and Depression, the 4 being slow life in a quiet city and also the mystery of a detectives story and lastly 5 being the hectic life in the city and the endeavor to clear his name

bro, I literally forgot about those lyrics. I was jamming to "your love came all over me" if it were a modern song, probably any song, I'd feel some shame, but since it's composed by shoji meguro and yumi kawamura's singing on it, I feel none.

the whole "gun to the head" thing in P3 is supposed to go with the theme of accepting fate and the inevitability of death also the gun is actually a gun-shaped device that overloads the parts of the brain that are associated with fear forcing the persona to awaken... I wonder if that has any negative side effects because overloading any part of the brain is most definitely bad persona 4 is about solving a series of murders in a small quiet town(I wonder what inspired that) and has the theme of defying fate
