If GW came out with yet another parallel twin 500-600-800cc bike, no one would really notice, but if you first release something totally outlandish like this first, your name is in the motorcycle news world wide, then come out with the more generic bikes as a “follow up”. Just clever marketing if you ask me 😉.

China is at quite an interesting place right now when it comes to motorcycles. On the one hand the motorcycle industry is really booming with all kinds of bikes, all kinds of displacement getting released seemingly every second with really competitive prices and some with properly decent quality and features. On the other hand, motorcyclists in China just don't have the same kind of right of way as 4 wheeled users, with a lot of cities imposing motorcycle bans or limits the usage of large displacement motorcycles (above 300cc), and prohibiting motorcyclist using the motorways and expressways. Car drivers in China in general also have less respect towards motorcycle users, thinking that they belong to the bike lane.

If its price is much cheaper I'd definitely buy it. As for people saying the goldwings is getting bigger that's bs. The new goldwings suck by my opinion they got smaller and more like a crotch rocket. I'm 6 ft 300 lbs and I ride a Yamaha venture vecause it's one if not the largest bike made currently. Not everyone wants a lightweight turd box. I'm willing to bet it will be a good bike I bought hyosung and though not highest quality they are reliable and quick for their size and easy to work in. I will always buy the larger bikes, cc matters vut like Harley they make bikes that are to short, and small and for larger guys like me they are uncomfortable so if this bike is reasonably priced and has the power to match id definitely give it a go. I'm excited to see it come to the market as many people will buy it regardless of what others say. People were like that decades ago over the Japanese market as well now folks prefer the Japanese market to American market based on quality price and power. Don't knock it till you tried it.

Having owned Goldwings and touring Harleys and Indians I have concerns. If you have a problem with current Goldwings some dealerships are making you wait weeks until the Goldwing mechanic comes to the shop. Now with Chinese bikes, who is going to service them? I imagine if these bikes are introduced you will see a huge aftermarket of upgrades to get these bikes up to spec. Manufacturers in China will save money anyway they can, putting my rear end on a Chinese bike for a cross country cruise would be a hard sell.

At this point in time; the gold wing is likely to mop the floor with this thing. I suspect there will come a time when this bike will become competitive, but that’s just not the case right now. The biggest contention to this bike is the geopolitical issues versus the gold wing. Japan is not nearly as hostile to America at this time as China is, and the same goes for the west more broadly. That fact can’t be avoided when considering Chinese bikes.

Here's the rub, Great Wall is a car/truck manufacturer with a lackluster reputation for reliability... even in China. By just jumping into making motorcycles spontaneously, I don't see this reputation getting better. CFMoto is currently the most reliable, best made Chinese bike on the market. They are making international headway by beating the Japanese bikes in price and getting "close enough" on quality.

I do know one thing. I don’t regret buying my 2021, BUT I wish I had not sold my 2014 because if I had kept it. The 2021 might have gone up for sale by now. I miss that extra weight.

You got to be kidding..there is no advantage at all for a touring machine to weigh more...the weight loss with the 2018 plus Gold Wing was a hugh upgrade over the old model... I could never go back to the old model after experiencing my 2018 Gold Wing... I'm hoping Honda will refine the Gold Wing even more and lose more weight...the Gold Wing should be as least as light as the BMW K1600.

If they are putting it into production they must feel like it is ridable. Being the Chinese it may be a copy of something that is proven to be reliable like they did with the dirt bikes. Everyone is trying to tear them up, even putting them under water and still they crank up and run. Well them motors are exactly the motors that were on earlier KTM's and had a reputation of being very reliable. Maybe they did like the chainsaws and copy to the exacting spec's of a Stile chainsaw and they run and last like a stile. So maybe they stole and copied from the Gold wing to the point that the technology they are using is a proven technology by design already. This is the Chinese and intellectual property does not mean anything to them and they will reverse engineer in a heartbeat. As far as big being manageable Boss Hog has proven it to be achievable and handle like a typical motorcycle (somewhat)for a more experienced rider. So not saying it's right but with there track record of copying with ill regards to any patents or license needed to do so makes me think if it didn't work they wouldn't be producing it. Mexico is not as picky about that kind of thing as the U.S. is and also they probably are trying to figure out how to get around tariffs and taxes the U.S. may have on China at this time.

I had a 2013 Goldwing and the main reason I got rid of it was the insane weight. I never dropped it but everyone else who rode it did. There are probably many owners that haven't had issues with the weight but it's always there, ready to bite you in the ass. I started looking at the new Goldwing now it's lighter, so for me a heavier Chinesium Goldbling is a definite no. I have a Chinese bike btw, so I'm not anti Chinese bike.

On the off chance that this Chinese bike is safe and decent to ride (HIGHLY DOUBTFUL) good luck finding a quality shop/ mechanic in the USA that will work on these. Also, 1% of Chinese riders could stand over this and move it around with some level of skill because it's a massive engine with massive weight.

@Kevin-hp5fk is it xenophobic to imply that a country with a proven track record for poor quality control and lackadaisical labor laws miiiight not make the safest 8cylinder motorcycle? I think that's a pretty valid concern from a manufacturing quality standpoint. Anecdotally: I had a Chinese bike and it was genuinely a death trap, there was NOTHING that felt comfortable or safe about that bike, and it was by far the most unreliable bike I've owned despite being brand new. When he says shops won't work on them he clearly means brand-specific service centers (e.g. good luck filing warranties on CFMoto or Apollo). That is an objective fact as of now and presumably will not change anytime soon due to the immense cost of establishing a dealer network. You gotta stop being so filled with hate that all you perceive is negative. As the kids say nowadays: go touch grass!

@@wizardmoto basically everything you own is made in China or assembled elsewhere from parts made there. I've no idea where you live, but up here in Vancouver there's two cfmoto dealers within about 50km of me, so my friends with them have zero issue with parts or service. Also anecdotally, my friends with Harley's and Indians have had waaay more issues with the bikes than the few I know with cfmoto. To answer you, yes, it's xenophobic to base your dislike of something solely on the country its from. Though I fully agree that Chinese labour laws are basically a massive human rights violation

Not many people are looking for a bigger Goldwing....unless; its a really nice motorcycle and comes in at a Chinese price.

Lots of state of the market questions posed by this bike.... essentially, who is it for? The aging biker population are stepping off ultra classics onto street glides and other baggers. Here in the UK, BSA and RE are pulling folks off their GSs for lighter bikes. So a bigger wing? Seems like a misstep. In many ways I'm surprised not to see a 1000cc mini-wing, or perhaps even Honda seeing a place for a redone ST11/1300 to sit alongside the NT. But for non-western markets the market growth is away from basic 250cc transport towards a leisure based segment? Great Wall are probably looking to this as an aspiration model like Kia are doing with the Stinger

I'm not sure if I'm just imagining this, but I think the owner of GM said he had this bike made just because he loves motorcycles and wanted to make a big one. And that is all the reason I need. We need sensible bikes. But we also need to dream once in a while and enjoy the absurd.

I certainly do not need a motorcycle even bigger and heavier than a Gold Wing, but I am very excited that someone is building and selling it. Americans will not like to read that but China is becoming the technological leader the U.S. used to be in the 50s.

Aren't the North American motor vehicle markets harmonized? Is Mexico cheating on emissions or noise standards? Maybe they couldn't find dealers to hold them in fear of losing Honda.
