Has The United Methodist Church Changed Its Basic Beliefs?

The #StayUMC & #BeUMC proponents insist that the doctrine and basic beliefs of the United Methodist Church have not changed. On paper they are correct, the doctrines of the church have in fact not changed, but does it matter what the official stance of the UMC is on paper if they have clergy that teach the opposite?

The rural churches around us are switching to the global Methodist church a more traditional church or are leaving to become nondenominational. They have had enough of this crazy crap.

Thank you. The groundswell to physically separate this denomination which has been spiritually separated for years is growing. My prayers for each member of the UMC is that they will seek truth, repent and follow the inspired word of God. Holy Spirit will lead each of us to Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. Only through Him will we be truly united. Prayers for all.

Isaiah 40:8 says it all. So does II Timothy 3:16. Tampering with God's Holy Word is a very serious business. Revelations 22: 18 & 19 shows those that do will not make heaven.

you know that mainline churches have rural churches that are more moderate or conservative; and more of the churches in the cities in larger urban areas are more liberal. This is the same with the Disciples of Christ, PCUSA, Episcopal, and ELCA denominations.

Buddy all of this has been openly discussed in UMC official literature for over 50 years. It is also clear in the course catalogs of UMC seminaries for the same time. I saw it as a 20 YO and walked away from the sinful heresy. What has taken you so long to see this??

Of course not. They just realized there are other sins God hates just as much, and most of them are never discussed by the other good sinners in church. Many on the church just got tired of the hypocracey, and the hate.

I am not Methodist but many of my friends are in Methodist ministry and it saddens me to watch what your church is going through. Fundamentalists is a dead end, but mindlessly following every liberal biblical trend is equally destructive. We must understand that faith always has been and always will exist in a certain historical context. Most who question core beliefs do so for their own purposes, not because they have a desire to know the truth. I pray that all may find the peace of God that is beyond all understanding.

If and when they have one. By the time they do get around to another General Conference, enough of the traditional congregations will have left that those remaining will have enough votes to change the Book of Discipline so that homosexual behavior will no longer be considered a sin by the UMC. The claim that church doctrine hasn't changed will be confirmed as a lie and more congregations will leave including most if not all of the congregations in Africa. The UMC will be left a dying shell of its former self.
