It's still a problem, but this is why the emerging culture of positive and emotional masculinity in contrast to a lot of more toxic aspects of masculinity is so great. A majority of adult men not having friends is an actual issue that is being studied. Outside of men having hobbies like gaming and fandom, the older men get there seems to be a difficulty making deeper connections. And part of that is just that a lot of the emotional work of maintaining a friendship outside of structures like schools, sports teams, etc wasn't encouraged in men a decade, two decades, etc ago. So you get the phenomenon of married hetero men being friends with their wives' friends, etc. But I am seeing a shift. Younger dudes around milennial and Gen Z ages are a lot more open and emotionally available and put in the emotional work to maintain friendships, because there's not as much of a stigma anymore. And a few groups of older men here and there are making active attempts to undo the kind of weird lonely stoicism they grew up with that was touted as self-sustainability but in practice just ends up being dependence on people like their wives and families. Definitely hope this trend towards more healthy, communal male relationships keeps going up.
