The whole secondary stock market system is busted and stupid, but we can either have the right to buy and sell our own assets, or we can have unnecessary restrictions on people trying to sell stocks for purposes other than speculation. It's more of a philosophical debate than an economic one
@jellojiei60614 ай бұрын
It’s meant as a hedging strategy. Example I think, Pepsi will do better then coke. So I buy a bunch of Pepsi stock, then barrow a bunch of coke stock sell it and say I will buy it back later. This way if the cola industry crashes, as long as Pepsi still did better then coke I get money shorting is meant, to be a way to reduce risk by letting you factor other things out of the market, and simplify the amount of things you need to account for. It also is useful because it can lead to firms who just uncover fraud so they can get massive short positions, to make a shit load of money, and well this seems greedy it is better to stop the fraud sooner, this is why Nikola motors was found out to be a fraud after it gained a 34 billion dollar valuation more than Ford.

The stock market really isn't the sign of a healthy economy because when unemployment goes down, the stock market goes down.
@brendan18714 жыл бұрын
'Healthy' is a matter of perspective in capitalism. It's a true dichotomy actually. To whatever extent capitalists (including the productive capitalist's partners-in-crime: stock brokers, bankers, landlords, etc.) are able to exert their collective hegemony over workers and maximize the ability to squeeze out as much surplus-value out of workers as productively as possible (i.e. maximize workload/productivity while reducing their standard of living and paying them less); to the same extent do the workers become exploited and suffer more intensely, and vice versa.

The stock market isn't always a a good indicator of your company producing value. The SO price alone cannot determine that, there are plenty of other indicators like P/E ratio, extrinsic vs intrinsic value, implied volatility, ect. Much of this is priced into the market with the Greeks (theta, delta, ect.) however market pricing isn't always correct. The stick market really is a casino, some gamblers just have a better betting strategy.
