The one caveat to this is the LotR collector packs. We know roughly how many there will be because of the printed pull rate of the one of one Ring, which iirc is around 3,000,000 packs. The LotR collector boxes are the most expensive we have ever seen, and if the Ring is pulled, I think we can expect the secondary market price of those boxes to tank hard and Amazon dumps will follow. It's a wild card in the formula. So I think it's too early to say Wizbro has changed their pace; the early 2023 sets could just be a fluke.

Imagine the card is found early in the sales cycle and what that would do to the prices on the product 😳 Now try and imagine a publicly traded company leaving that shit up to chance. WotC will know exactly which case has the One Ring in it and will dictate when it is shipped out. Remember the McDonalds-Monopoly scandal? Pepridge Farm remembers.

I think there are two considerations that still need to be taken into account: 1) The right price point for collector boxes - I can still get DMR and ONE for less than the "original" price when released though they have stabilized and 2) The rate of sets being churned out moves people quickly to the next set and the old collector packs/boxes aren't interesting anymore. DMR dropped $40 as soon as ONE released. ONE will most likely drop as soon as MOM releases. No fire sales, but I would be surprised if those collector boxes recovered by the end of the year. You'll also notice price drops on the special collector cards as the sets move on. This really is a wait and see, I don't think these prices are settled yet.

People aren’t all turning to singles, people are turning away from the game in general. Sure some people left are buying singles because it’s cheaper but so, so many people haven’t touched a magic product in 6-12 months now and WOTC’s greedy pockets are feeling the pain

It's the one thing I have always wanted Wizzards to do. Release numbers on how much their money machine goes whrrrrr per set. It causes too much volatility when they don't make the numbers known.

The money machine only goes whirr as long as players are either rich enough to feed it, or confident enough they'll get their moneys worth out of it. Personally, i've always gfelt disappointed with my collector booster pulls, and would rather buy a box of set boosters, over just 5 collector boosters.

I agree, as a collector since eldraine, I'd buy collector boxes every set release, and the prices were equal or lower than non-foil cards (with very few exceptions). I started to get pissed and stopped buying collectors, so it makes sense that they cut their production.

Thanks for the vid Rudy. Good to hear about Collector Boxes getting reduced print runs finally. The only contention I see is that ABU cards being flat. In the collector space, we have seen graded ABU selling at their highest prices still. Maybe you are referring to only sealed product, which has so few sales that it is hard to really gauge market price changes, but graded singles haven't dropped or stagnated on eBay, PWCC, or the Facebook groups.

The biggest problem is that there are too many variables that can't be factored in at this time. Based on everything we can see, Rudy's logic is sound. But Wizards has proven that they don't actually know what they're doing at this moment. They could easily make more careless decisions that completely destroy the positive setup for these collector boxes.

I must be completely backwards if you say most people don't watch these videos. I watch most if not all videos and weirdly enough I've never bought any box of magic. The most I've bought is 2-3 packs of a single set. I just find the talk and news an interesting aspect of my hobby. I appreciate you and hope you keep it up. They're doing serialized cards again for MOM collector boxes. 65 cards at 500 cards a piece (not counting the praetors) = 325000. At a pull rate of

Rudy the difference between old boxes and the ones from 5 years till now is that old boxes had unique cards and all boxes now have the same mythic over and over. eg. Horizons 1 is not worth anything becouse every box now has a wrensix. there is little to no uniqueness in a box anymore except certain ways of printing cards and serial.

Hasboro raises prices and print runs 2021. Prices collapse due to oversupply in 2022. The only way now to raise prices again is to not have the price keep collapsing so they tighten supply, shrink pack numbers per box and try to maintain revenue. They were choking off supplies early in set releases to maintain prices then continuing to print. It's possible they learned their lesson but as soon as ONE collector boxes hit 250 I still won't be surprised if the printers turn back on.

I see it as different again. The set frequency hasnt changed, there is still 4 standard sets per year and 2 supplemental sets. The issue is things like Jumpstart. There’s too many options per set. They also need to cut back on Secret Lair to 4 drops per yr

Rudy, There are so few channels of any sort that try to seriously engage with what is rather than what they want to be. I literally just watch this channel, look at broad market indicators on the trading economics site, and read marketwatch. Going to a regular news site for real information (wsj, fox, cnn, etc) is just .. I can feel them trying to make everything emotional. Just saying how rare what you're doing is even if it's on a micro-market I personally don't participate in.

They may have reduced print run between brother war and dom remaster but it feels like they're still printed a bit less than kamigawa and capenna. And it seems like kamigawa and capenna were a bit less printed than crimson vow and friends. Based on my frequenting of 5 heavy stocked lgs I would absolutely say dom remaster and all will be one collectors were printed less. Beleive 2 are wpn and one specializes in only magic

Even with the reduction, I think Wizards isn't going to be "what it was" when it comes to their products and collectability. I think even older sealed product is a weak place to hold position as holding onto sealed for valuable single pulls is now ruined by the multi-year reprint of "Master Sets". I think a lot of the value seen in the secondary market is on speculators trading within themselves thinking that history will hold. Wizards just became a different company at some point and the collectability of anything in the modern market is just shot. There is just too much product out there and not enough buyers outside of the speculators to support the inevitable ball drop and the hope for players of collectable hot potato they are not left holding the bag.

I think you told on this channel many times, if you can hold on to the stuff hold it. You may not get the big spikes but you get your money back. But if no one holds on to these boxes and the supply will end, these boxes will go up. In each set there are cards with great power, with money on them and artworks we will not see again. Why shouldnt they go up in price?

They could increase the numbers, but that's a massive risk because they could end up with a large amount of product that the market isn't interested in.

Collector boxes were 3 years and some change old when WoTC ceremonially cut the excess. I think most Jewish traditions call for the ceremonial cutting to be like 8 days after birth. A little inhumane to wait this long

I will continue to invest in sealed products, but I do believe that Hasbro has truly lost the confidence of the players. No players...zero fucks. D&D still has a chance, but it all depends on their actions over the next 24 months.
