I love the "pegwarming plastic pollultion" line. I also love the support for a traditional "Christmas Product" but you are right - that material is going to sit there. It's like when you go to the mall and some guy has set up his newest "lacquered printed acryllic poster store" and you can't help but think "you put all this effort into this store to sell junk posters and it's going to be out of business in two months". You just know it's a bad decision - you've seen it a million times over life.

I love that, for Marvel, the only option for a female body... is Black Widow. It's like we're in 2012 all over again! Honestly, if these things weren't resin, I'd say just sell the head and send it in a tiny padded satchel. But even then, I'm pretty sure that'd be too consumer-friendly for Hasbro, and they'd give the heads a unique neck peg so you couldn't swap the heads anyway. They can't even justify the $20 increase. Like, what happened during development where these were priced out enough that $60 was a price that wasn't just floated around internally, but outright announced to the public... and then it's increased? It can't be anything but greed.

Thanks for the information . I was thinking about getting a Selfie but now knowing I can't swap out the head with a different hero makes me not wanting not wanting to do this at all . Not to mention the price increase that basically stops me altogether . As fellow Veterans you probably know that those of us who rely on our pensions can't afford these price hikes . Veterans and Active Duty Personal don't get paid enough here . ( I imagine it's the same in Australia and other western nations ) Considering the time I invested , my injuries , and the service connected illness my life was forever changed . Making well under the cost of living for anyone who served/serves is another sacrifice we made . Many people outside of this bubble do not understand . I'm with you . I love the people I served with . The people who kept me alive through my injury and illness . I have no love for my Government the Pentagon , or Veterans Administration who tosses you aside if you become injured or ill . I was told I was no better than a broken down Jeep by a paper pushing bean counter . I tried to fight my medical board . Thought I could at least train soldiers. I was good at what I did . If not that counsel those who become injured . It's a hard pill to swallow going from being able to compete in Iron Man races to having to learn to walk again . I'm proud of my service. What I accomplished in training to become US Army Airborne and all the training through Airborne , Pathfinder , Ranger , Air Assault schools . All of that I love . My nation's government , how uncaring and radical the right has become hasn't made me too proud these last few years . That said Hasbro this last couple of years has been very unkind to it's public. I love the Marvel Legends Comic Book figures . I don't like how Hasbro has treated the Collector Community . I actually hope the Ghost Rider Engine of Vengeance fails now . I signed up for it at first but as time has passed I've become uncomfortable in the difference Between this Haslab Ghost Rider compared to the Sentinel/ Galactus . Even though I'd like to have a Mephisto it's not worth spending $350 ( 388 after tax) on . I have the Sentinel and am waiting for Galactus . I won't be getting Ghost Rider. I backed out a few days ago . Love your videos . Sorry to drone on . Keep up the good work and keep fighting the good fight .

Problem with the GR HasLab is that it only seems worthwhile if all the unlocks were reached. 7 figures at $25 would account for half the cost. Now one figure is down and we're far from unlocking Mephisto. Without the unlocks, that's one overpriced car. It looks great, but I see the little details like the working stick shift and wonder why Hasbro thinks fans wanted that, let alone to pay for it? IMO a HasLab, being a specialty item with a low production run, should push the boundaries of value before the unlocks are reached, but it should still be worth it. Galactus and the Razor Crest were worth the asking price by themselves. The tiers should push it from being borderline worthwhile to being a solid value. That doesn't seem to be the case for the Ghost Rider HasLab. Normally we see the HasLab get boosts in the last week, but I can see the opposite effect here if they aren't close to unlocking the extras.

Unless it's an indie project, I personally believe no toy company should crowd fund their products, especially if they are already a multi billion dollar company.
@hobartpaving89862 жыл бұрын
I’m not a fan of the HasLab model for ‘big ticket’ items, but it’s not crowdfunding. Crowdfunding would mean the toy would go into general production if the goal was met, whereas if you don’t order these projects while they’re live your chance has gone. HasLab is more like a limited pre-order window, with a reserve on the amount of orders needed. As I say, I’m not a fan of it - although I can’t imagine the Unicron toy on actual release, so I can see why they took that route, no toy shop would put a $600 toy with a box as big as a washing machine on a shelf!

It seems to me that there is an opening in the market for a 3D printing service for selfie heads. It might end up costing a little more than Hasbro's selfie series (or about the same), but having the option to put it on any 1:6 figure would be a lot more exciting. And it seems really strange to me that in the GI Joe selection they don't have any regular soldier options, just Snake Eyes and Scarlett, when there's plenty of more conventional military bodies to pick from (not to mention Cobra).

I served in the second most elite specialty of the US Navy, the nuclear submarine force, SOCOM having the highest and most elite status. We too have a brotherhood, where I can depend on any individual wearing a submarine warfare pin. The majority of the submarine force is in the top 1-2% of everyone in the military overall, with Operators filling a smaller number than that. I was there from 9/11 and forward to retaliate against Afghanistan, launching 25 Tomahawk cruise missiles, more than any other unit combined. I know where you are coming from. Military members don't seek accolades or recognition, we are doing our duty. Occasionally people find themselves, like yourself, in a position to be honored in a way that matches their hobby and their mission. The selfie series is self-indulgent. And if people want to spend that, it's their money. I was looking at buying a Hot Toys 1/6 Jengo Fett head for my Boba Fett. At $80.00, I'm just going to buy the whole figure for over $200. The funny thing is the figures being offered are some of the first release figures for GI Joe, and figures which have existed in other lines for a few years. So at $20 figure, minus head, Hasbro is charging $65+ for just the head. A resin head. They must be hand painted, like Hot Toys and Sideshow heads at 1/6, yet they are 25% smaller, and will more than likely crack over time. I think you should take a collection from your fans to purchase a head. Just so you can compare the the quality compared to your action figure likeness.

I don't see anything wrong with people wanting their likeness on action figures or with wish fulfillment, isn't that what alot of collecting action figures comes down to? That's not to say I agree with how Hasbro have gone about or many of their business practices

I was considering doing the selfie thing, even at the 60-dollar tag for a re-use body and custom head. But to be done dirty by hasbro with a 20-dollar increase. I am out.

Everything you said is fair. You're just talking about basic rules of demand and profit (if u charge too little you lose out on profit but as you increase price the demand goes down until it becomes so small you start to lose out on profit. Also if profits go down for any variety of reasons to keep profits the same increase prices, decrease costs or increase amount of products which both could have the opposite effect. The reality though is Christmas junk sells like crazy. One of China's main exports is plastic Christmas crap because it's sells like crazy. All music artist's make christmas albums with the same 10 songs on them because they make a lot of money. Justifiably you say christmas figures are junk but they will sell. They will also end up in clearance on Dec 26th like all the other Christmas junk. That is more about making more profit then they threw out. That is how christmas junk makes money and boy does it. Plastic prices went way up so IMO the less plastic packaging was to reduce cost (with a PR spin). The profit off making christmas junk just makes the pr being bs more obvious. The thing I disagree with most that you basically said was people should want their face on an action figure. Price and quality are all fair points but demand will be their. The idea that unless you are a military person or a youtube host it's not justified is rediculous. Since when is an impulse/vaniety/expendable income item have to do with justification. Things like selfies, portraits, caricature drawings at fairs, they did "get yourself or friends/family drawn as a Simpsons character". Vaniety items will sell and it has nothing to do with justification. IMO it has nothing to do with "does the person deserve the honor". Matter of fact that would be a reason it does sell is because that person might never have gotten a figure of themselves made. I'd say that item would also have a lot of sales as gifts including romantic gestures. The quality being bad and price vs what they are giving you for that cost is a fair point and a good reason to pass but the idea that that type of product being sold has no market because people won't buy it because they don't have the right social status to deserve it is a dumb assessment.

"What are we gonna do about this scalping problem? Any suggestions?" "How about we just start charging more than the actual scalpers?" 🙃

The christmas star wars figures... really needed the loop on the head to hang from christmas trees because as an ornament is the only freaking way I'd get one of them.

I was on the fence about buying a selfie series as the price was a bit high to begin with but Hasbro has convinced me to skip it.

Those Christmas figs will be great for customizers when they go on discount.

I wonder how important all of the 6in action figure lines actually are to Hasbros profit. Most stores have around 5-6 aisles for toys and various Hasbro and Mattel owned brands dominate those aisles. Very little space for legends or black series . In the overall corporate Hasbro structure I'd say us adult collectors are viewed as more of a niche. Though their other products have experienced price increases , none have been 50% like the figures. They really are treating certain customers like junkies and those people are just asking for more , just like they hoped.

Thank you Tony! There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about this ScamLab that requires it to be crowd funded. Also, if Hasblow didn't wish to risk a retail release, it could have made it a pulse exclusive or limited to online retailers. (the fact that so many vehicles go to clearance before customers buy them is evidence that their is a demand but people aren't willing to pay those crazy prices). This base offering is NOT worth $350 plus tax and shipping. This was an obvious cash grab exploiting the fandom of their customer base and abusing their loyalty to your brand. Shame Hasblow. And SHAME on ANYONE who defends a $13 BILLION corporation instead of siding with fellow consumers! Keep roasting them fanboys Tony!

I wonder what the value of these selfie figs will be 20 years down the line.

(Update/edit) My first comment was going off what little I had seen of this concept. After getting my hands on the app, the selfie series is extremely low quality, and nowhere near worth the price... Hadn't heard about he selfie price hike. That stinks. Still getting one, though. I've purchased custom heads plenty of times for custom figures. I will be swapping the head. I will have my head on a Steel Brigade figure. If it cracks, I'll glue it back (that has happened a time or two in the past when fitting them). Not a Hasbro fanboy, but I do like their headsculpts. It's literally the only reason I invest any money in the Marvel Legends line (purchased at sale prices when I can find one). Wish I could show pictures on here, cause most of them are custom Action Force kitbash figures 😁. P.S. Thank you for your service. I have nothing but respect for the men and women in the armed forces.

@@BobbyLCollins First off, I said I'd glue it back, not "bend over and buy another one". Secondly, not married, but I fail to see how my wife's loyalty would be in question (unless you're just being an asshole, but you said you weren't being snarky so that can't be the case). Finally, I changed my mind real quick after I looked at the app. They are very low quality, and nowhere near worth the price.

So, the only way to win, or get our collective point across is to drive Hasbro out of business . Or to the brink of bankruptcy
