What I really like about the Japanese is how they take good care of their stuff! 🇯🇵

You’re from Perth too! Nice. Do you frequent any local toy fairs? I only know of the Victoria Park and Joondalup ones

this was great - heading to Japan mid-year and def gonna check out the Mandarake in Akihabara (have some star wars stuff I would love to find) as its not far from the Warhammer Store & Cafe. Coming back from winter in Japan to Perth's heat must have been a little tough, from freezing to the sun trying to melt us locals.

Awesome video. The Boba Fett is something I’ve wanted for a while.l but can’t justify the cost. Complete I haven’t seen them for less than $700 Aussie Doallary doos. Have you gone full Mint in box/on card now? Also, March 30, Penrith Collector Con! Bring Desert Rat figures! Bring your camera! I’ll bring cash. Please and thank you

Well, obviously not because a number of the items he bought that came with boxes, he removed them from boxes before displaying in the final picture at the end of the video.

My favourite country to visit and yes the toy shopping is fantastic. Even prior to going there the first time, going back to the late 80s there was a store in Sydney that used to get regular shipments from Japan and kickstarted my fascination with Japanese toys and model kits with shows like Star Blazers and Astro Boy as my gateways into it.

I was in some antique store somewhere between Tokyo and Osaka. I pick up some robot toys and go the cashier. As was translated to me.. they said, "we put the price from 1950s for historical feeling but its x100 more" I didn't buy that crap. The more that I think about it, the more that I suspect that it was fake modern knockoff junk anyway. They wanted to get me two ways. triple the price and sell me modern junk.

What a wonderful Dr Who toy. I remeber seeing it in the 1983 Dr who anniversary magazine, along with Teela. Never saw one in Oz and always wanted one as a childhood Dr Who fan! I found Goldenage Toys as well, loved the carded Battlestar Galactica stuff that was there at the time. Likewise Scarlet is not in my collection... yet.

Maybe 32 years ago I remember going to a 7-story toy store, I think in Akihabara. I think it was called Playland, but I'm really not sure. To know that stuff I saw back then that was brand new is "vintage" now, melts my elderly brain. All I bought were a couple Gundams.

Maybe if that Microman gun were in robot mode and packed in a separate box, customs wouldn't even know it can look like a gun. USA TSA can be weird though. They opened my sister's 20 year-old sealed PEZ dispenser flying home from a Star Wars convention. WHY.

That was amazing, I've been to Japan so many times while working for Avex, mainly staying in Osaka, Sendai, Tokyo, my biggest surprise was visiting Kobe while playing for an event called Circus Black, we asked the hotel concierge if there were any collectors shops in the area and he laughed and gave us a map and circled the area we should head to. When we found it our jaws hit the floor, it was like a hyper market on 5 floors all packed with precious things, loads of RC kits. vintage Mattel, Kenner, everything pretty much. I bought a mint Ideal Zeroid and a Robbie Robot by Miracle Toys. I love japan as well. Best country to visit along with Australia.

Thanks for this video! I'm planning to visit Japan too and when it comes to collectibles I also want to focus on vintage stuff. Did any of these places have anything like bargain bin stuff? For me very often the best finds are the used cheap stuff, that I can imagine telling many stories of great playtimes. I'm not that focused on pristine mint in box stuff but it's so cool to see your enthusiasm showing!
@AnalogToys6 сағат бұрын
Absolutely there are good bargain bin type shops that you can rummage in, its just that Mandarake isn't really one of them.

Ten years ago Japan definitely was a vintage toy Mecca…….however large companies that sell items from Japan online have bought up 90% of everything in Japan and now items that used to cost ¥500 in Japan now are costing ¥50,000 or more for the same item in worse condition. These corporations have sent employees all over Japan and have bought up almost everything then they take it to Tokyo and sell it for super ridiculous prices in their retro retail stores or online. By 2026 Japan will have nothing left inside Japan for the Japanese people.

So many rare and vintage japanese toys, but very less time and budget. Who'd thought that there were toys there in Japan that are older than me but are more in pristine condition.

It's a great lesson to buy it when you see it. I have never regretted buying a vintage toy, but I still kick myself over opportunities that I should have taken, even from decades ago!

That micro change gun was the first choice for Megatron but they went with the man from uncle gun because it had more parts. There is very early transformers commercials that use that figure as the basis for Megatron. It's a much cooler toy than the Megatron toy.
