I thought the furniture looks a little bland compared to the original. The Cardboard and Plastic may not be as durable as full Plastic, but at least it was manufactured in colour, and durable enough despite the decades from experience. I haven't done an accurate inventory, but it would seem that the number of figures shipping with the base set are less than the original as well. It came across as over-priced based on content, almost like one was paying prototyping for each set. Shipping does not have to be so expensive either; Chaosium have shown that by shipping in bulk to international Distribution Centres.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring4 жыл бұрын
The new edition has the same composition and quantity of enemies. It actually has more miniatures because of alter gender heroes, Ragnar, and other extras. I liked the original furniture, but I understand the move to full plastic. Dungeon Saga did full plastic furniture and it's really nice. Overall, I think they've done a pretty nice job, it's just a pity they haven't made more effort to make it available to a wider audience. I think it probably is a touch expensive as well, and I'm not sure they've said what kind of miniature quality it will be yet.
@DavidGreen_au4 жыл бұрын
I just checked off my old set, and yes, you are right, the figure set is equivalent. I've had my fully expanded set since it was issued, and I had forgotten how much was in the base set. I cannot disagree with some others though, that if you own the original sets, this re-issue does not bring enough added value to justify its price, distribution jurisdiction aside. Replacing a Fimir with a Fish is just too little to justify the expense.

I am assuming the America only crowdfunding launch has everything to do with the convoluted IP mess around our beloved game. Remember the 25th Anniversary edition out of Spain? I think Hasbro only has the rights for distribution in the US and Canada, and definitely NOT Europe. They have also cunningly replaced any GW IP with other imagery, and commissioned artists to replace the original artwork too. The fact they're crowdfunding possibly means it's them testing the waters, or maybe it's a pet project of some designer they don't want to invest in. But seeing the artwork and miniature renders, I'd say they're already committed to the project. A shame really; I love HQ, and would have jumped on this like a Chaos Warrior on a wounded Elf...
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring4 жыл бұрын
They obviously don't have any rights to GW intellectual property, that's never been in dispute. However, Hasbro has the trademark for HeroQuest in the UK at least, and people are overlooking that this is how they run all of their HasLab projects. I'm pretty sure they just don't want to deal with international customers.

Saw it at 12:00 today. Looks good, but I find some of the art direction questionable and strongly dislike the exclusives on offer. I also feel averse pledging money to a project from a large company like Hasbro, and would rather wait for a mass market retail release, to get it cheaper on the secondary market. The gameplay is another mystery, as if it is too close to the original, it will not hold its entertainment value in the modern day of board games, and if it is too new, we don't know what to expect. Overall, I like how the project is shaping up and look forward to seeing more :)
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring4 жыл бұрын
Looks like it's going to be pretty close to the original. Roll to move, only four stats per hero, same board layout and terrain elements, same composition of enemies, same spell decks, and the items we've seen are from the original game too. If they are crowdfunding it through HasLab, I doubt they will ever do a retail release. I hope the people who are actually able to get it are happy with it.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring If it's not being released retail, there is more reason to buy. But the shipping costs, uncertain miniature quality, art direction and gameplay are all reasons for me not to back it. Only in U.S. and Canada is just ludicrous. At least the mythic tier would be almost worth it if in the U.S., but that's not likely to be in my budget. Already several months back where I live it was expected that 1 in 4 jobs lost during the pandemic lockdown were expected to become permanent. With Congress playing politics instead of passing a relief bill, it is expected to only get worse. 14% of U.S. households cannot afford food as of two months ago. 80% of independent restaraunts are expected to permanently close. And that's just two numbers in a heap of bad news. And a limited crowd-funded board game comes out overpriced by half again. Yeah, not on my list of priorities. Sadly.
