Sir i've been come across some of smps recently and was greatly frustrated to find that the control chip or pwm ic was damaged due to heavy short circuit. Please do some videos on how a pwm gets damaged . what are the good design practices to prevent such kind of issues. Because once the pwm gets damaged it becomes very tough to find a new one in the market and we've to leav the whole power supply.

That startup vcc resistor is one of the first things to check in a dormant switching supply. Some resistors don't do well with a high voltage or large pulses across it. No overload, just quietly drift open.

VREF in most of the ICs are 5 volt or 5.1 volt. it is a 5 volt regulator inside the SMPS IC, it provides a regulated output voltage, which are used to create oscillation frequency. so that if we change the operating voltage, the IC will not change its switching frequency

I have PA-9E Flextronics 240W charger recently (seller said it's from Alienware laptop, bought it secondhand from online). It's written 19.5V on the spec, but only 19.08V when measured with multimeter. Also, when it connected with wattmeter, when idle/not connected to laptop, it's fluctuating between 0-1.9W (btw, this is level 5 efficiency adaptor. AFAIK, it shouldn't be more than 0.5W when idling/not connected to load. Because I had 19.5V 230W Delta charger, and it's 0.2W when idle/not connected to load). Is it something wrong, or is it safe to use in the future?

RCD or RC snubber is used to remove ringing effect if tank circuit is added to flyback circuit. it will increase more chances to damage to the switching device in induction cooker, induction heater we need tank circuit, in that case it is valuable otherwise in smps the tank circuit is not used

Very good explained, thank you! Its strange that sample circuit uses 2x332 kOhm and this device 180kOhm only. I think the value is too small and therefore it burned out. Planned Obsolescence!
@HaseebElectronics2 жыл бұрын
thanks a lot. in sample circuits they provide some basic circuts but any desisgnenr adjusts it for his requirements startup resistor basically provides a soft start period to build voltage at DC rail. so resistor 120k to 400K is normal for using with 220VAC line voltage
@marka19862 жыл бұрын
Those resistors usually don't burn, just drift open. Was common in TV repair, any resistors with a high voltage or large pulse spikes across it were suspects to check first.
