Thank you for the video, the subtitles really help out a lot. I recently started branching out into non-Gundam model kits, and after watching Do You Remember Love, I really wanted a Valkyrie model, but I didn't realize all this extra work was needed lol. Once I get my kit, I will follow your video and hope to make my model look as good as yours

Thanks! Just keep in mind my video is kind of a “summary” and I cut out stuff I thought is not important or boring to watch 😅 and even then it’s still a pretty long video. My point is when you’re doing your kit in the future, don’t be discouraged by the amount of work presented to you and just keep at it one piece at a time. I’ve been there too 😁 and if I can do it then you can as well. Good luck with your kit! 👍

Every time I built one of these I always ended up getting the lower leg part on backwards so the black and yellow control surfaces pointed to the rear. It was always a pain to get the upper leg and feet off again to re-assemble

That is great work. I'm really going to have to take the plunge and try this kit. I just finished the IMAI 1/72nd VF-1S and the seams were a bit of a nightmare. One still cracked open during final assembly and I could have sworn I got a good bead of glue in there. For the arms (once assembled), it's hard to sand the inside seam - in those cases, I use very thin plastic card and glue that over the top - looks much better in hard to sand places that are still quite visible.
@casualplamo11 ай бұрын
Oh man, imaii is way older than this i think 😅 Bandai did bought some of their molds and repackaged+rereleased some of em though. You should give Hasegawa kits a try 😁 You’ll do fine I’m sure
@ncc17701a11 ай бұрын
@@casualplamo Just ordered a Strike Valkyrie. I had doubles of the older IMAI kits so I decided to make some of them. Started by making the VT-1D, then made some minor modifications on the VF-1A and VF-1S. But there are some very obvious scaling issues, but as you point out, the IMAI kits are old. 😆
For that I'll get the old imai macross model kits 😮💨

If I can find them cheap I’d probably wanna get some too. Sometimes working on old kits are also fun 😅

Are you missing the part beneath the head? Which covers the neck hole for the body.
@casualplamoАй бұрын
Nope, B16 is installed. Though it’s painted grey, so it might not show properly unless the angle is right or if zoomed in. There might be some pics in my IG from other angles that you can check out. Or I could always post one with it visible(I might not have posted all of the pics that I have in IG)

Very very nice. I am currently building the Regult. Was the liquid mask by Mister Hobby and did you have to use Acrylic paint because of it or is their regular paints fine?
@casualplamoАй бұрын
Yes I used the Mr hobby brand liquid masking. There are two kinds. Orange bottle and teal bottle. Orange bottle has ammonia in it, so it can’t be used over Waterbased paints. Teal bottle is Waterbased, and is safe for all paints. It can also be thinned by water and applied with a paintbrush as it will wash away with water. I used lacquer paints so my paint layer are safe.

Amazing work 🤩 any problems with the decals due to the age of the kit, I've heard comments. I have a large collection of the Hasegawa Macross kits.
@casualplamo Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yea they are so thin and fragile, they disintegrates easily. Which is why I painted most of the blacks and yellows instead of using the decals. I don’t know if it’s because of the age(mine is from 2004) or not though mine hasn’t yellowed much. I’ve seen it happened to jp builders as well, but I don’t know know the age of their kit 😅.

VF-1S is always cool, but it's unfortunate that Hasegawa didn't make 1/72 VF-11 variants in Batroid mode
@casualplamo9 ай бұрын
I think they only made battroid kits from the SDF macross series. Not sure why, but they only made fighters for the other series. Not even gerwalk modes are made I think 🤔

Putting this exact model together as we speak. Didn't realize that you have to paint EVERYTHING especially the feet. Kind of odd in my opionion.
@casualplamo7 ай бұрын
Haha yea scale model kits are like that 😅 These kits are not like gunpla kits which are designed to be very easy to build and doesn’t require paint(most of the time) or glue.

does this one requite a lot of work? i'm looking to get into the macross series soon. i have built plenty of gundams straight out of the box. do you recommend i just get the new macross kits that are prepainted? thanks in advance

@kidrobot. The amount of work needed can be seen from the video 😅 You will need to be familiar with painting and glueing kits to be able to build it. AFAIK there are no new pre painted macross model kits

The paints I used are the ones listed in the color guide of the kit’s manual. So you can check there for the complete list. Most of them are from Mr. Color brand. They’re lacquer paints.

Thank you 🙏 For the clear parts I used Gaianotes fluorescent lacquer paints. Their fluorescent paints are clear, so it works nicely on the kits colorless clear parts.

I used oyumaru, but you can also use blue stuff. In my next upcoming video I happen to have to recast another small part(since it was a second hand kit 😅) and I recorded the process a little bit there so you can check it out later. I think there are quite a few videos on recasting using oyumaru and blue stuff in KZbin, so you can also try searching for em too 😁

Haha don’t worry about it man. Just set it aside for now. If it’s not broken, then it’s fine. And even if some parts broke, it can be cemented and fixed later. Just don’t lose any parts 😅. Level up a little with easy kits like gundams, learn some painting skills, etc. And you can always go back to the kit in the future. 👍

There are magnifying glasses(wearable or the type that has lights and clamps to the table) that you can use. Most people that are into the model kit hobby especially the scale model kits(tanks, fighter planes) are generally older generations. So don’t worry! Have a look at some options and give it a go 😁 it’s not impossible for you.
