No we can not use normal IR sensor as it will not work properly. The flame sensor is tuned to wavelength of radiations of flame.

Which Arduino board are you using ? In case you are using Arduino nano then select old bootloader option in tools . Else if you are using Arduino Uno , then try changing usb cable , or connect to different USB port . Make sure you select correct COM port in tools . If nothing works then use new Arduino Uno board 👍🏻

Thanks for checking out video 👍🏻 you can use 5 v battery directly in place of adapter . It should work . But make sure that battery provides 5V only . You can use 3 AA cells which will give you approximately 4.5 V and that should work . Give it a try and let us know .

Make sure you use good power supply which can provide minimum 1 Amp . Also check if your pump is working just by connecting 5 v separately .
