As a Canadian having lived in Canada for most of my life I will never forget the beauty of Colorado and its small towns. I recall when returning home after our (my wife's and I) first visit there I said to my wife that when I die I want my ashes scattered in Colorado because it is as close as one can get to what I consider anyways, to be heaven.

“If you don’t do it this year, you will be one year older when you do.” The famous last line in every Warren Miller film... so we moved from Seattle to CO and decided to visit every ski town to decide where to live. We nixed Aspen (looked like Orange County, CA from town...just hills), the I-70 ski resort towns (too busy, freeway, too transient, etc.), Telluride... we went house hunting there 3 times but the dark box canyon winters were too much, not to mention the real-deal isolation. We were going to give up and check out Utah when we remembered this one little town we hadn't been to (an odd sounding name maybe?), Crested Butte. When we rounded the bend at CB south, saw the Paradise Divide and the wide valley, we knew.... within 30 minutes, we decided and long story short, lived there for almost 10 years. People say it's too isolated, but with the internet, and a relatively short 4 hour drive to Denver, it checks all the boxes. We moved away to the Roaring Fork Valley (ugh) for my wife's health issues, but to me, CB is the most scenic, coolest (if not just a little too cute) mountain town in Colorado. And yes, the back country skiing is the best.

You really got in at the right time. Crested Butte is incredible. It's funny how life can be like that. You can take weeks scoping out places to move and never really get that feeling.. but within 1 min of being in the right place, you just know.

I lived in Aztec for a few years & spent a whole lotta time in Dogtown. You are correct: belongs on the list & belongs pretty high. Good town. Even the tourist traps are high quality. I like Pagosa better though. Pagosa is this weird place where little mining occurred. Thus little development. It's just a town with a small resort in the middle, but other than that and the absolutely _SPECFUCKINGTACULAR_ scenery it could be a town in Pennsylvania. Prices reflect that (except on taxes for out of staters!) Also Wolf Creek smokes the everliving shit out of Purg. Wonderful mix of family mountain & walk the ridge for budget "cat skiing." Especially back in the day. Still good now though.

In 1987, The Grateful Dead played in Telluride. I will never forget coming into town the day before and seeing that huge banner hanging across the street with those beautiful mountains in the background. Welcome Grateful Dead. Band members were hanging out in town with fans. Saw Jerry and Brent at a bar. For those who didn’t have tickets, music was played throughout town on big speakers. We also saw people coming down from mountains on horses to watch show. It was really incredible.

This video perfectly captures the beauty of Colorado's towns. I appreciate how the narrator highlights the unique features and attractions of each place. Glenwood Springs seems like a charming town with its natural hot springs and rich history. Boulder's combination of stunning mountain views, vibrant arts scene, and delicious food make it a must-visit destination. I'm intrigued by the Switzerland of America, Ouray, with its breathtaking mountain scenery and outdoor activities. And Breckenridge's blend of history, art, and skiing makes it a picturesque town worth exploring. Colorado Springs with its iconic landmarks like Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods is truly a gem. And Vail, known for its world-class skiing and stunning landscapes, offers more than just winter activities. I'm inspired to plan a trip to these beautiful towns and experience their unique charms firsthand.

@@HashtagColoradoLife I suspect you've never been to Durango frankly. Nor Pagosa Springs. Both are nicer than about half the towns on your list (I've been to all the towns on your list except Crested Butte.) The Pagosa valley is probably the most underrated place in Colorado. It's far more beatiful than far more famous places. No mining there, so it never got developed like the rest. Plus if you're gonna do Ouray, why wouldn't you do Ned? Nederland's a lot nicer than Boulder. Was 20 years ago anyway. Is Ouray huge now? Wouldn't surprise me with all the douchebag overflow from Telluride (which is probably the prettiest town in CO it should be noted.) Final note: *your list is HEAVILY weighted towards places douchebags live.* Anyone reading: you're gonna have a lot better time hanging with the locals in Mancos or Gunnison or South Fork than Aspen. Understatement of the year.

@@Saturdayz_In_The_Fall It's good you call it Purgatory instead of "DMR." Of course your name is Dante after all. We called it "Purg" when I lived in Aztec. All in all we rode wolf creek more though. Purg is fun on a groomer day, but the Creek gets MAD snow & holds it for days. The mountains up above Purg though? SPECTACULAR. The steam train from Durango is one of the few tourist traps frequented often by locals in the US. Well worth the money & time.

Southwest Colorado is by far the most spectacular place I've ever seen. Yes glacier national park in Montana is also great, but Southwest Colorado is my favorite. The only thing I dislike about Colorado is the local people thinking that Colorado OWNS it, and discourages nonresident people to go there. Well, 90% of the most beautiful part of the land in Colorado boundaries, DOES NOT BELONG TO COLORADO. It belongs to the USA. National forest, Bureau of Land Management, and the Corp of Engineers. People in Colorado Think they OWN it. They are completely IGNORANT to the facts. Please inform them to the Facts. I'm sick of ignorant people there telling me I'm not welcome. How ever for day to day living colorado seems more suitable because its less touristy, How ever if you want a wild Vacation in the Rockys I highly suggest coming to Banff in Canada. But as I myself have a day to day life in the rockys Im jealous of all the housing options in colorado!

Nicely done. I've lived in Vail, Steamboat, Grand Junction and have had the pleasure of skiing and hiking all over Colorado for many years. It's difficult to sum up the beauty and majesty of the Rockies and the good feeling of living in them at a wonderful little town, but you did a nice job. Your video brought back alot of awesome feelings and great memories. I've lived all my long life in Colorado and visited the most visually appealing spot I have ever seen this fall while photographing the fall colors. Rock Creak Campground was my destination and there is one point at which I could take a photo or a great vista. It was the most breathtaking view I have ever seen. On the west side of the San Luis Valley in the San Juan mountains if you would ever care to look for it.

I have a winter picture mounted in my office of your thumbnail scene. It's looking toward the waterfall and has the Sheraton in it. I got it about with 20 years ago when I was out there on a ski trip. Now married with 3 kids, we all went out there June of last year and stayed in Telluride for 3 days and then on to Ouray, Durango......took them on the train to Silverton and back. We then drove to the South Rim for a couple days and ended up in Scottsdale after spending two nights in Sedona. It was an awesome trip, especially for my kids, they had never been away from the Carolinas, except for a trip to Boston. My Dad's side of the family was from Montrose, so I learned how to ski at Telluride when I was a teenager.

I agree on most of these towns. I used to travel from SE Tn. to do the Bicycle Ride of Colorado. I had almost covered from New Mexico to Wyoming on a bicycle. The only town I didn't like was Estes Park, too many foreigners. The next day on June 20th there was a blizzard on Trail Ridge Rd. I've trained in 95 degree heat, what kind of blizzard is this? Oh it be a blizzard alright but how many people from Tn. have even seen a blizzard. We saw it and climbed a mountain in it. lol My favorite town was Pagosa Springs but there were a lot of good ones. Creede was the coldest night I ever stayed in a tent, the water bottles froze on the bikes. This was always the third week of June. It's cold but a great place to ride a bicycle. I know you're wondering if we climb Mt. Evans since it's the highest paved road in North America, yes we did. Going up was much better than descending on that road.

All the places on this video are all the tourist spots. I suggest if you want to see Colorado you choose a small city like Gunnison and book a hotel for two or three days. Then take day trips from that town into the surrounding area. Gunnison for instance has the best sporting goods store I have ever seen. The mountains all around in Colorado have a lot to offer but you really need to get off that beaten path to get into the outdoors.

We weren't able to just focus on the small towns that are beautiful and not touristy spots but that might be a later video idea!
