• When to Use Protein Tr...
Protein treatments are treatments that strengthen weakened hair. Hair is damaged when it is breaking excessively, color-treated hair, when heat has been used, relaxed hair, texlaxed hair, or texturized hair. Our natural hair is also damaged in a sense because it is dead and we do manipulate it via washing, styling etc. so these are all reasons protein treatments are useful.
If you fall you have experienced any of the above-listed categories then you should include protein treatments in your regimen. If you don't fall under any of these categories then protein treatment is optional.
"Protein is what gives the hair its strength and structure. Hair is about 70% keratin protein by nature. There are a wide variety of proteins that serve different functions and roles in hair care. Some enhance elasticity, while others reduce it. These proteins bind to the hair cuticle and help temporarily rebuild any weakened areas. Protein-based products reinforce the hair shaft, and help it remain strong enough to fight breakage." -The Science of Blak Hair
Protein Treatments To Use
Ones that contain hydrolyzed protein which should appear within the first 8 ingredients:
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed casein
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed collagen
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed hair keratin
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed keratin
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed rice protein
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed silk
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed soy protein
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed wheat protein
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl silk amino acids
Cocoyl hydrolyzed collagen
Cocoyl hydrolyzed keratin
Hydrolyzed keratin
Hydrolyzed oat flour
Hydrolyzed silk
Hydrolyzed silk protein
Hydrolyzed soy protein
Hydrolyzed wheat protein
Hydrolyzed wheat protein
Keratin
Potassium cocoyl hydrolyzed collagen
TEA-cocoyl hydrolyzed collagen
TEA-cocoyl hydrolyzed soy protein
Other Treatments That Strengthen Hair But is Not Protein:
Eggs
Greek Yogurt
Henna
Rhassoul Clay

The protein in the above does not penetrate the hair cause they are not hydrolyzed. Therefore if your hair is damaged using these will not patch up the damaged parts of your hair.
The Hask Keratin Protein is available here:
I bought it as Clicks for R70 before they dissed our hair however I have seen it available on several websites. I will not link them here because I have not tried them out personally. You can decide where to buy it.
MY HAIR TYPE:
I have fine, low-density and high porosity hair Still yet to confirm if I am type 4b.

I just used only the hask protein today and im glad i realized that i needed to use warm to hot water to open my hair cuticles before i put it in my hair. i also use the same warm to hot water to open cuticles before i shampoo then rinse both protein and shampoo with cold water. the temp of water really makes a difference on how anything used on hair works or reacts or makes hair shiny, dry, rough, moisturized. you want any oils / moisture / protein from products to do what they are supposed to do, like sealed in oils/protein/moisture.

I recently started using the hask deep conditioning products and over the weekend I used the keratin one and I must say l love the smell , the feel. My hair is soft and feel stronger, I had so little breakage. I used Shea butter ,castor oil and ors leave in conditioner. My hair has never been this strong before

Im so glad your hair responded so positively! Just a reminder to monitor your use of the keratin treatment as it’s a strong protein and too much can cause protein overload

My hair has been really dry lately and is harder to style. When I comb it I lose so much hair in the process and my scalp hurts, it's extra sensitive. What do you suggest I do?

@@herhairglory9204 I haven't been using anything, in the past I did not have to use any special products for my hair. I don't know what to use. Last year I did a moisture treatment but after a few days my hair was back to being really dry.

So you mean you don’t use anything at all at all? As in you shampoo and condition and leave your hair as is? Sorry for the many Q but I need to understand your current hair routine before I can advise properly.

@@herhairglory9204 I shampoo, condition and use coconut oil. I recently bought unrefined Shea butter but I am afraid to use it, I want to figure out the issue before I go putting on products on my hair.
@herhairglory9204

Stephie Y BINGO BINGO BINGO! The issue is the coconut oil. Coconut is very hit and miss and it’s very dangerous for some naturals especially those who are protein sensitive. Remember in my video when I said I had protein overload? I was using coconut regularly. It sounds like you now have protein overload meaning your hair strands have been continuously coated with protein that a hard barrier has formed which blocks any moisture from entering and makes it brittle meaning it will snap like a dry twig. A good sign of this is if your hair is breaking in pieces and not from the root. Coconut oil also affects the scalp. What you’ll need to do is to CLARIFY your hair just like I did in this video. You need to strip all those coatings from your hair. Then avoid all protein products ( read ingredients lists) and focus on moisturizing your strands. Get under a hood if you have to. This time moisture is your friend. After clarifying a couple of times your hair should be fine then you continue moisturizing. When you hair recovers then you can add unharmful protein back into your balanced regiment.

Is this equivalent to doing an Avocado Mask?🤔 Or are they both necessary?
@herhairglory9204
@herhairglory9204 3 жыл бұрын
An avocado mask is a non-hyxrolysed protein meaning the molecules are bigger, not small enough to penetrate the hair shaft. The protein in avocado just sit on top of the hair strands and coat them from outside. So if you have damaged strands the gaps within will not be filled up and would merely be coated from outside so your hair will still be damaged. I’d recommend alternating a deep penetrating protein treatment with a weaker Avocado protein treatment. When you know your hair is damaged from either being blow dried, colored, flat ironed, has braids in, hectic combing or it’s just generally too elastic then I’d recommend doing this kind of protein treatment because an avocado treatment will not do the job.
She had PROTEIN OVERLOAD but we’re fixing it! Silk press natural hair
