Haslab Deathsaurus: Will it Be the Best?

He's a character I don't very much care about...but he's as perfect a representation of a character I don't care about, so I'm happy with this figure. like...as a toy, this thing does just about everything in its mission statement and does it well every time. A shame this isn't a proper Commander Class and is instead a "Preorder and you miss it" figure like Star Saber. though unlike Star Saber, I actually regret not buying this. With Star Saber, I feel like I'd be happier with the Planet X figures, imperfect as they may be, but Deathsaurus? This is basically the definitive version.

I think mis-transforming the legs backwards helps a ton. It gives him more posing, and helps with the proportions

Before this I never realized how similar Deathsaurus and Grimlock are, I'm starting to think Takara wanted a spiritual successor to Grim like how they did with Ultra Magnus and Starsaber (terms of toys and not character)

Apparently, early on in the design stage, this figure was supposed to end up as studio series Grimlock. One of the designers said so in the video named 'Hasbro Pulse | Transformers Generations Deathsaurus HasLab | Unboxing'.

@@PerspectiveEnd there are a bunch of minor similarities that I noticed, they both tower over most others in they're faction, both carry large swords, they both turn into giant fire breathing lizards, the core formula for they're transformations has a few things similar like the arms becoming the lizard feet and the legs folding up to form the lizard backside with the head going on top

What’s really crazy is the size comparison between Deathsaurus and SS86 Grimlock. Deathsaurus is clearly bigger, but in alt mode he looks only maybe 20% bigger, yet in bot mode he’s like 60% bigger, and it just really doesn’t seem like he should shrink *that* much. Love it when transformations do that.

The reason the chromed chest wings are just on friction pegs is because on the victory sabor, the chrome got damaged in the package and while being opened so they packaged these seperete

Holy Primus... You got Haslab Deathsaurus! That's awesome man. Head to toe, this Victory universe villain in both robot chicken and emperors of destruction modes has awesome sculpted details and well applied color scheme. The accessories are cool, from the yellow mace flail to the living metal destroying cannon. His throne is cool, but wish he can fully sit in it. Talk about being on the edge of your seat. His chest minions, Eaglechest that becomes a rectangular double blaster and Tigerchest that becomes a bow for the arrow accessory, are well done. And the Autobot mircomasters, Boater and Pipo, are neato. Honestly it's an awesome Christmas present. Will go awesomely with his adversary Haslab Victory Saber of course. What a great way to end the Legacy Evolution toyline. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and looking forward to your reviews on the figures for the upcoming Legacy United. -I never backed any of the Haslab projects. I really wanted to. As Unicron, Victory Saber and Deathsaurus are amazing and are characters that may never get figures after the Haslab run. Unless it's third party. But I'm on a budget so I can't. Plus if I did, I didn't want to risk backing up these projects, only to receive a copy that are damaged, missing parts or have bad qc. Which I heard that some copies had these problems. But I'm glad that people who got to backed these Haslab projects and got copies that are perfect, enjoys them.

Merry Christmas from Melbourne! I like the alt-mode quite a lot; it's so charming and it reminds me of why I sometimes prefer beast modes over vehicle modes. However, I wonder how much less this would have cost without the throne. I'm not a fan of things like thrones and flight-stands tbh, but everything else is pretty cool. I wonder if this will get reissued, or get released on retail with less bells and whistles so that common-folk like myself can afford it. One can only dream I guess...

I absolutely love this figure and I’m glad that you gave it such a positive review, even if you personally don’t like the character and anime Transformers. lol Victory Saber was also a fantastic Haslab, but it had a few compromises with sculpt and articulation. Deathsaurus doesn’t have such issues and is damn near perfect in execution. The colors and silhouette alone make this figure stand out on a shelf. Also, I had no idea the robot mode had an ab crunch! That’s great to learn. ^^

It was a good year, but very little from it stands out to me as TRULY AMAZING on a figure front, but at the same time the worst of year list will be almost impossible, because almost nothing bad came out.

When I first saw the transformation, I thought it was very similar to Grimlock, which is funny because the other day, I checked the Wiki and this guy started as an extensive SS86 Grimlock retool, but was upgraded to Haslab after Star Saber did so well.

(Examples include the POTP Black Repaint Leaders, the Studio Series Terrorcons (I finally got Nightbird), the CDL-01 RC, Generations Selects Marvel Galvatron and Legacy Ironhide/DK-2 Guard, the Earthrise Mercenaries, my own Team Athenia and Mayhem Attack Squad, Legacy(s) Tarn, Pointblank, Arcee II, Needlenose, etc.) And waiting is definitely the worst part.

For me I always liked the Grounded nature of the western stuff. I know that sounds silly, but comparatively giant robots are more grounded, than giant robots that have Ninjitsu. Still a good figure though.

He looks cool, but the lack of shoulder swivels is infuriating considering he's otherwise a perfect figure. Edit: I may post what figures I am getting for Christmas tomorrow.

I similarly do not care about Transformers animes, I never watched the Headmasters, Victory, and the others, and never felt the need to. But when Star Saber and Victory Leo were first announced, something told me I had to get them, so I did. My explanation literally did not go beyond me knowing Star Saber from the mobile game Earth Wars. But when Deathsaurus was revealed, I had plenty of reason to get him. I am not familiar with the original character from Victory, but what I do know is that Deathsaurus makes a good successor to Megatron as the next great leader of the Decepticons and the next Emperor of Destruction. Not only does he pilot a massive planet-destroying starship around, but he also has his own Decepticon army (hoping for a new Liokaiser soon) and his own mission to bring the Decepticons back to their glory days. And he is a way better leader than, say, Overlord, Straxus, or Scorponok, all of whom tried replacing Megatron (we don’t count Starscream because he’s just a plain incompetent).

Personally I think he would make a Great Next leader for the Decepticons, because of his IDW portrayal where he actually cares about the troops under his command.

I really like this guy. I prefer this one’s sword over the others but that’s also personal taste for me. I prefer the simpler curved sword he has here, if anything I would want it to be smaller as it’s very big and is closer to a two handed sword length rather then one handed. I’m a nerd into weapons and armor of the past so I don’t like super fantasy weapons and I dread a lot of big weapons unless their so big that it turns around to being funny big or just dumb cool big. I plug the shield on the back of his arm and I think it looks cool like that and functions better as a shield. I glued the chest parts onto the tiger guy to stop them from falling off. I don’t like his flail, I would have preferred a posable chain like mp 36, and shorter as well. Anyway thank you for this Christmas present of a vid, my mums cat which I considered a brother (I’m an only child so animals were the closest I had to siblings.) passed Christmas Eve. We got him when I was six, which my birthday present I kept asking for was a little brother, didn’t get one then five days later a stray cat had some kittens under our bush outside. He was the last of them as a neighbor stole his sister and his brother passed some years ago.

I mean if you love Realistic weapons, there's not a Shamshier out there with a tip that broad, as it would make it too unwieldy, like trying to swing an axe as a sword. To make him sit in the chair the directions tell you to unclip the gold kneecaps and to bend him at the transformation joint which will make him sit and then you close the knees back up once he's in it.

This Deathsaurus (I still prefer the name Dezaras myself) is awesome. I do like the Planet X one in robot mode with the wing effects but this feels so much easier and less likely it will break if I mess with it too much. Funny enough, my issue with the Western Transformers is usually the opposite of your complaints of the Japanese Transformers. I don’t like that power levels are not really explained and they barely ever explore the cosmology. I’m very sick of Earth and I don’t have the same issues with escalating power levels in the Japanese continuity because it happens in the Western continuity too but is just very much not clear what can beat what.

According to the guy who came up with him Deathsaurus is the correct translation. Really? I kind of hate the PXs robot mode. I prefer the Transformers to have a more grounded world. So power level is just how big you are, and how many guns you cram on. And the cosmis stuff is dumb and I hate it. Give me a story without that please.

@@PerspectiveEnd yea, I know. I just REALLY hate that name… mostly because it kinda sounds like edgelord cringe to me. Dezaras sounds more alien which I like. For me I don’t mind the rest of the robot, but I love the idea of silhouettes of him with just the red eyes and the energy wings to make him look more intimidating, especially as I like the idea that Overlord and Dezaras usually have fought or have attempted to manipulate coup’s against Megatron in the past so both should have some kind of intimidation to them IMO. I’m honestly more mixed on having “grounded stories”… part of this is growing up on Armada in which they always phrased the war as “a battle for the universe” (although G1 does claim that at times too) So to me, I want to see why the Transformers civil war is supposedly that impactful or not. That and I’m more on the idea that Transformers generally should be more of a space opera, not just a mere war series. There is a lot that can be done with them, and I wish we could see more. Give me more of why I should fear Unicron existence, of the Decepticons messing up other worlds, of both factions being competent. Show me the universe they live in, are they more or less the biggest threat to even their solar system or galaxy, or is there more out there? That’s what I’m invested in.

Comment 2: I got 8 characters for Christmas: Kingdom figures: Cheetor: not a great figure, but an alright one. Blackarachnia: a fun figure, but the limbs are incredibly spindly and my grappling hook doesn't store perfectly in beast mode. Airazor: definitely the best of her mold that I have in the collection. The SS is oversimplified, ugly, and her only mode that appeared in the film is inaccurate, Terrorsaur is stupidly unsculpted. Even though this version only has greyer feathers and a pink/purple head, I think she's cool in her own right. Scorponok: a weird transformation, a bad beast mode, but a fine robot mode. If the claws were the right shape, he would be fine. The Reactivate figures: All great. I would rank them as such: 4: Soundwave 3: Bumblebee 1: Optimus Prime and Starscream (both are excellent). Also, I will soon get Legacy United Tigerhawk. Can't wait to see how great he is.

I absolutely love this figure! The star saber is also really cool but parts of it just feel cheap, namely the red plastic. I generally agree with you about japanese transformers but i kinda make special exception for BW Neo and Victory. Victory, I haven't had the time to finish but it seems at least a bit more grounded, the autobots get their asses kicked more than expected and the final battle between SS and DS is badass, no beam clashes or wind slashes, just them shooting each others' eyes out and stabbing each other lol

I could be wrong, but given how big Victory Saber toy is, and the toon, I think this might actually meant to a "toon-accurate" CHUG figure. MMC is definitely IDW, but I think Planet- X was trying to combine G1 and IDW to get something to resemble the old "of Cyberton" games so you're right it was trying to be more than one thing. Good figure, wish I could afford it😁(hell either one).

While the next rumoured Haslab is omega supreme but hopefully after that they keep with the japan exclusive stuff. Like liokaiser giving the 6 bot combiner the Haslab budget be a big help and the tiers could be interesting maybe cobra is added on. It would follow well with starsaber and deathsaurus, also the only other versions is the original which has plastic issues, TFC which is older and a bit hard to find, then Iron Factroy version which was revealed a year ago with no solid release date. Although speaking of japan stuff idk why but recently I’ve been really thinking of the UW Grand Galvatron. I think the Cyclonus shiny paint, a ghost starscream, and I have 3D printed hands/feet for chug combiners that’s a main tempt. I also don’t have any UW combiners and have kinda wanted one and the odds of a new galvatron combiner is none

I remember not caring much about this guy until I saw this one clip of him beating the SHIT out of star saber, lmao. Something about the fact that he actively used his entire arsenal in battle - in one scene pinning SS's limbs with his flail and breast buddies so he could start hacking in him half with his sword - was so cool to me that it immediately put me on board. The biggest shame to me is that HE HAS NO ALT FACES!!!! People say it with a lot of figures but it's such a tragedy that with all the infinite haslab budget, they didn't think to include any form of expression for someone so cocky and combative. I hope by the next applicable TF haslab they realize how much a couple different faces could add.
