Man, this camera is something else. So I had X1D II and today I got my X2D. I am practicing photography from last 11-12 years and I have used camera's with IBIS but no one is close to X2D. I took some hand held shots on 1 sec with ISO 200 with my XCD 65mm at 2.8. They are so darn sharp that I can't even explain. by far the best. I am more of a street portrait and street photography kinda guy and only challenge I was getting with X1D was at night shoots. X2D is worth every single penny. Go for it if you can.

Ted, thanks for this review. I love the fact that it’s a minimal camera. When you come from a generation of shooting on film, you really require 2 settings. I feel this camera is more on the lines of the Leica systems I am used to. Pure function pared with beautiful design. Now I won’t need to drag and XF body with IQ back to get the resolution and the amazing colour I see. The only reason I never moved to hassie was always the clunky software. Now if only Capture One support is announced for this one ;-)

We’ve had Hasselblad in our studio for decades and when Fuji launched its GFX line we’ve tried that extensively. The various GFX50 models as well as both the GFX100 and the GFX100S. All these are great cameras, but couldn’t match our Hasselblads H6Ds (and the loaner X1DII). Fujifilm has two very good GF lenses that are comparable to the XCD equivalents and those are the 110mm and the 32-64mm. The other lenses are good too, but not as good as Hasselblad. On top of that we found quite some sample variation in Fuji lenses. The other areas where Fuji in our practice falls short is the limitations in flash sync, the reliability of the cameras (we had quite some issues incl. a defect shutter) and of course the overall image quality esp. in color rendering and DR. We do high-end fashion and make-up portraits, so color accuracy is prime. Fuji certainly has nice colors, but there were too many issues to get the skintones perfect and fabrics like silk or linen looked ‘plasticky’ due to overprocessing in-camera. Our tech editors didn’t like to work on the RAF files and much preferred the 3FR and NEF files. If this X2D solves all the issues we had with the X1D, it might be a great camera for professional work at a reasonable price (compared to the H6D).
@tor29192 жыл бұрын
Back in the day the lenses for the V system where each and everyone individually checked for sample variation. Just like Hasselblad individually calibrates each of their sensors today for colour consistency. I don't know whether they still individually check the lenses. But put it this way, there's a reason Hasselblads cost more. Image quality. What you describe explains really well why real professional brands like Profoto or Hasselblad are more expensive. They're usually more consistent with higher degrees of quality control. You used to have cheaper options in the past too, like Bronica. Today there's Fujifilm, and while great, they simply don't have the same level of quality.
@jacobh58172 жыл бұрын
@@tor2919 Hasselblad still checks every lens for sample variations (and of course quality). Even the X lenses, that btw aren’t that much cheaper compared to the V lenses.

Another great review. Thanks, Ted. I was waiting for this camera for for years and finally invested in the GFX 100s with the GF 23, 32-64, and 110 lenses. I've been massively impressed with the quality, especially of the 23 and 110, although the system has flaws for sure, such as the low sync speed and very laggy viewfinder. I can't tell you how often I pined for a leaf shutter while shooting in mixed lighting conditions. This new Hasselblad may be all the reason I need to jump ship, but I need to get a better idea of how it handles under pressure (I'm a commercial photographer and primarily shoot people). I'm sure if I make the switch that Fuji will immediately introduce a 150mp sensor with a global shutter lol
@nelsonclub77222 жыл бұрын
With hi res pixel shift creating 600mp!!!! - I did this - I went from 100mp GFX to Hass X series due to leaf shutters and an overly complicated system - 1 huge bonus is the batteries - only GFX100s are now available - duracell do some - but expensive - whilst the GFX took 2 they don't last long enough and once charged up and down a few times get worse - I shot 1250 wedding shots on three hass batts- 2 in the x1d and 1 in the 907x - you won't regret the move - if you do any kind of commercial work the files are glorious - far better colour wise than the fuji system and you can do more with them - cropping in on 100mp is where its at though so if you are used to the fuji files at 100mp this will knock your socks off - I did have a Hass H6D100c for a while which has an almost full frame sensor and whilst the detail was off the charts the camera was far too slow and the lenses even the orange dot ones only operate at 2k shutter speed - things have got bigger whilst getting smaller - I'm all over this - good luck

I personally love and prefer big and heavy cameras since they give a better grip and stability while shooting. On the other hand, I think, the biggest advantage over the Fujifilm GFX100 is the leafshutter lenses and thus the ability to sync at 1/2000s, whereas you are stuck at 1/125s with the GFX, unfortunately. Is it a big deal? Yes, it is-if you are a commercial photographer and shooting in challenging outdoor situations with strobes. Small things, but big differences. 📸

I do not really agree about video on medium format cameras. Sure, on a lot of them the readout speed lead to atrocious rolling shutter and all that... But on newer cameras like the GFX 100S... the video quality and features are actually quite compelling and this camera can be used as a decent 4K camera in a pinch. Which amplifies the range and versatility of such a camera in my opinion. Also, we don't know the pricing (yet) so I guess close but a bit more expensive than the X1D II considering the upgrades (or maybe closer to the X1D?)

This is an excellent review of an excellent camera. With one caveat: the Hasselblad X2D is not really a medium forrmat camera. I'm not trying to detract anything from the camera but medium format has been around for decades and it's well known to be 120 (or 220) film, whihc is 6 cm tall. The width is variable, with a randge that goes between 4.5cm to 9cm. Keeping things fair, this camera has a 4:3 sensor so it's fair to compare it against the smallest rectangular medium format size: 6x7 (cm). I know that you know all of this well, I'm just recapping for clarity. With the X2D's sensor being 43.8x32.9, let's round them to 44x33, the different is size, compared to medium format, is 2.9 times smaller. Basically 3 times smaler than medium format. This is an exceptional camera but it's not event close to real medium format size and given that there are many, many more photographers today using real medium format cameras, it is highly misinformative to refer to a camera that has a sensor barely bigger than the 35mm version as "medium format." Hasselblad, Fuji, and Phase One to a degree, are the ones to be blamed for the misinformaiton but we should stop spreading this terminology and actually call them on the deception. Let's call these cameras something else, maybe "super full frame" or something along the lines of that. As "full frame" is defined as having a sensor of the full size of 35mm film, medium format should approximate the size of medium format film, which is in use today by thousands of photographers around the world. Clarity benefits all of us and our craft and I would love to hear your point of view about this. Thank you again for the excellent channel, I enjoyed it immensely.

I'm curious, is CMOS sensors the only reason we keep getting new cameras? I see them as inferior to CCD sensors even old one from 2005. Why are we still using them again? The excuse was battery drain but we fixed that. Global shutter, no weird color shifts and easily recoverable under exposure and boost in colors. Resistance against posterization.

Looks like the DJI tech is finally making its way to Hasselblad in a meaningful way post-acquisition, which is honestly great, and it's clearly modernizing/improving the X#D system. Also glad that they haven't lost the svelte design, usability, and polish that makes it a Hasselblad. That said, I suspect taking away video is more a side effect of DJI not wanting this camera to compete in any way with own-brand products, seeing as they've been expanding their offerings in the cine space. It does have the benefit of simplifying a camera that no one is buying for video anyway, but probably for the "wrong" reasons.

Comparing those two I loved the Hassy for looks, ergonomics and color science but it was so slow and the AF was a constant let down. GFX100s is an amazing medium format camera that fixes everything I did not like with X1D II but....it just does not look or feel very good. The end results are amazing, but there is kind of a lack of "soul". If you don't care about that I can recommend the GFX without any concerns. But...still miss the Hassy. I was comparing this camera to the existing Fuji line and while it has some interesting features such as the 1TB internal SSD which can be a issue if it fails (wish it was removable and replaceable by the user) and the leaf shutters of the lenses are a bonus but at an extreme cost penalty. Not having video capabilities in this day and age is a poor decision. For this reason I think it will struggle with the Fuji offerings unless you have real deep pockets (mine are shallow and have holes in them). I am not in the market for these types of digital cameras, when in the mood for medium format I shoot with my (new to me) but old, Rolleiflex TLR. It looks like a great camera that I cannot afford. Though I do have one nit-picky correction about the storage specified in the review. Hasselblad advertises over 2000 megabytes per second not megabit. A megabit is about 1/8th the size of a megabyte so if it were running at 2000 Megabit it would be running at roughly 250 Megabytes per second which would be pretty slow for a modern SSD. Potentially too slow if one were to use it's relatively modest 3.3fps burst mode.

It makes us think about whether we should buy this camera. It lags behind its rival Fuji in terms of features. The company does not provide new firmware for its models like Fujifilm and there are various rumors about the removal of the H series.

I would love one but do you think Sony will enter the FF market now too? Considering it’s their sensor but with Sony tech advantages and better price??

Fuji gfx 100s has perfect 4k video. What you mentioned at 14:00 is not correct.

How is good video possible with that sensors very slow scan rate? Does the GFX100S use a tiny cropped area for video?

camera like this existed, since I was a child I have always been in love with the Canon brand, I saw it at races as I grew up and one day to make my dream of having a camera come true I had to sell a motorcycle I had, everyone called me crazy, today it is already a canon t6i on the market, but when I came across this one I was delighted to test it on my photos, but I can't afford the cost of it in my country of 80 thousand reais, my photos would go to another level

Hi Ted, I have just taken delivery of an X2D with 90mm xcd lens and I can't seem to resolve the camera shake even with stabilisation turned off and the camera on a tripod. I shot today in Manual I have tried moving the focus to the rear jockey wheel. Nothing works, any ideas what I could try next ? Cheers, Damien

@@connorluka7149 camera went back to the factory and returned two months later working perfectly although Hasselblad said there was nothing wrong with camera or lens. They said my sensor was dirty but it was 10 days old out of the sealed box and I only have the one lens. I don't care really it works now and I can get on with business.

Would be great if Capture One supported the raw files. Looks like another amazing cam from big H though.

There is also the claimed improvement in the readout speed. Did you notice that?

What camera has the best image and color quality hands down in your opinion? Is it the R5, A7RV, GFX 100S ii or the X2D ? Thanks for your time and input.

Would love a comparison of the X2D and M11. I know the sensor sizes are different, but the hardware quality and image quality seem comparable. Thanks.

Nice preview. Here is a question for your full review: How does the Electronic Shutter (ES) perform? I am asking this because with the X1DII the ES is only good on a tripod and I wonder if it is better on this version. Just like you, I use the ES to adapt legacy Hasselblad or other makes' lenses.

Ergonomics and design are two difference piece of cake. GFX 100s - about ergonomics, x2d - about design.
