What an amazing new camera. It sounds like a tool id really love to use. Focus confirmation on the manual focusing mode, and giving the manual focus mode a quick ring click away is a beautiful touch. The 100mp image has insanely capable of zooming in, as long as you capture something in focus. The grip looks really comfortable. To me, this is a no compromises, no budget, highest quality available type of camera. It does also mean it might feel scary to be a proper travel camera because of the cost.

This is revolutionary. It is to my knowledge the first medium format camera that can be used as a "normal" camera. Thanks to being very small (in terms of medium format), having IBIS and now also auto focus. Or has AF been a thing for medium format already? I have been out of the loop for a while tbh.

Built-in storage like that is something every camera should have. Faster, more reliable and you only need one card for redundancy.
@JMurph2015
@JMurph2015 Жыл бұрын
Yeah... But then you have to tether the camera to ingest frames / footage. Especially in the case of video it's pretty conceivable that you could want to shoot more than one card (or equivalent internal storage) in one shooting session. It's a nice idea, but I think two cards are still the better option there. And CFExpress cards aren't all that far behind SSDs these days?
@MarkVO

@@JMurph2015 hence the purpose of the redundant card, it becomes to device used for ingest
@JMurph2015
@JMurph2015 Жыл бұрын
@@MarkVO but then that card has to be as fast as the internal storage to keep up, which to be fair CFExpress isn't far off as I mentioned, but then you realize "why would I solder in half my storage if CFExpress is the bottleneck anyway?" NAND flash has a very finite lifetime and wear could become an issue with long-term heavy use. That said for this camera specifically, I heard it has no video capability whatsoever, so maybe it's unlikely you churn through its internal storage lifetime any time soon, but I can't imagine that's a fun replacement in say 5 or 10 years.

The glass is excellent, actually. Fuji GF lenses are also great, but not better. It was the functionality of the system that was lacking a bit. Unfortunately, if you had stayed loyal and did invest in XCD lenses because you thought they were going to fix it eventually, you now have to invest in a new body and new glass to get the full benefits.
@noenken
@noenken Жыл бұрын
@@MrPanohead I remember there had been some issues with the early lenses but I can't remember what it was. I don't doubt that they got that sorted out but that is obviously not what you expect when you pay those prices. I'm in the GFX system myself and by now I'm glad I held off from the X1D and the system. Not just because of the way the old lenses are basically obsolete now (although HB has a history of doing that in the H-system) but also because of the DJI acquisition. I just don't trust that company.

@Edwin--
@Edwin-- Жыл бұрын
@@nielsvolders4916 From a business perspective, this makes perfect sense in my view. First of all, I think the brand Hasselblad in its current form may still be in jeopardy. Current owner DJI loves to use it for their cheap drone lenses, but the medium format line seems to have a very limited development budget as very few new products come out. For a business, you wish to see continuity for the years to come and Fuji seems more active in their development and seems to gain traction with their medium format cameras. Secondly, I think the law of diminishing returns is at play here. The X2D's body is already 30% more expensive than the GFX100s, but also the glass is way more expensive. E.g. EUR 2300 for a GF 80mm f1.7 versus EUR 4830 for XCD 80mm f1.9, which is twice the price, for an about similar lens. The same goes for the GF 50mm f3.5 vs XCD 45mm f3.5. I think Hasselblad makes beautiful cameras and lenses, but I don't think the much higher price justifies the capability. They are more like functional jewelry, and that is a special niche.

Medium format digital sensors are fucking EXPENSIVE. This sensor is a 43.8x32.9mm BSI sensor. That's a LOT of area for a single sensor. As an example of the exponential increase that large sensor sizes, have you seen cameras that use Sony's IMX411 sensor? It's even bigger, at 53.36x40.01mm, and the CHEAPEST camera I can find that uses said sensor is the Phase One iQ4, which costs $40-50K just by itself.

This will be super spicy when you adapt some great portrait lenses like the upcoming Meyer Optik Biotar 75/1.5 or any Trioplan 100/2.8, or even the Contax Planar 50/1.4!

except that you can't use them with flash, because this camera only syncs when using the leaf shutter. it's a bit of a trade-off vs. a Fuji GFX or something with a focal plane shutter. Also, on the X1D II, rolling shutter was *ridiculous* with the electronic shutter on adapted lenses, though I would expect the X2D to be somewhat improved

@@chrislonardo the lenses I mentioned shine in natural light and shooting outdoors though, so flash sync speed wouldn't be an issue for me. I find most portraits with flash lighting disturbing anyway.

Another wonderful look at the camera Kai and Lok...it's funny the fact that this is a Sony sensor..makes you think...Fuji has been in their own lane when it comes to "medium format" and "aps-c" for a long time..but in the sense if Sony wanted to go "after them" in the medium format game..they absolutely can and this "sensor" shows that they have the tech if they wanted to..but maybe the body design is still getting worked on if or when they will ever make a Sony Medium Format Camera..in my opinion maybe they should..because lets say some Sony photographers want to move up to "Medium Format" and if there no choice inside the Sony line..people will jump to Fuji for that need...business wise your going to lose some people in that sense, why not keep them in the Sony "camp" and have that "Medium Format" line...Fuji is probably not worried for now..but they know Sony maybe developing something in the future..I hope they do..
