Bear in mind it took so long to get this footage on to KZbin because the firefighters haven't had time to edit or upload. Many of them have been exhausted and over-worked.
@terreyhills5 жыл бұрын
I have had to post publishing edit this as I was operating on 2 hours sleep after a 20 something hour shift when I uploaded this so the original title page has now gone :-) (I got the year wrong and listed as shot in 2018).

That fence looks like a lot of trouble. I thought these brush fences were against the regulations for fire prone areas, which this area legally is. Hopefully neither house was lost because of it, but looks like you guys did a great job.
@mavv70885 жыл бұрын
Guys and Girls if this was my house I would be questioning what you were doing there. Houses can be rebuilt, but lives cannot be replaced. (I lost property in the Otways VIC in 1984 so I am not some armchair warrior. Been there done that bought the T shirt). Stay Safe and stay alive.
@josh67764 жыл бұрын
Its called property protection and the whole point of it is to save Homes. The area was evacuated hence why crews where there.

Awsome job.. well done guys I was part of Bmt Taskforce Initial responce Team WE Batlled our arses off but unfortunately lost the restaurant at Jimby Rinja resort and Five other buildings sometimes Even with a strike force of Catorgory one tankers you just cant beat mother nature...
@terreyhills3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely; when you encounter pyrocumulous powered firestorms like that all that can be done is point asset protection. The fire has a mind of its own and the fact that there would have been 30 + tankers and pumpers from the RFS & F+R on scene we were never going to stop it.

This was a kick to the guts. We defended our house in 2009. I saw shit I never expected to see that day. I dunno how guys voluntarily put themselves in the face of this. Huge respect.
@terreyhills3 жыл бұрын
I have the same feelings looking at the members of defence forces when they deploy - utmost respect and a feeling that I could never do what they do; but years of training and preparation and having a great crew to support is key.

Unbelievable how the same spot kept reigniting even after being doused many times before. If I may, at least in night can see fires easier the actual hotspots better in the dark, thought there is a greater risk I bet.
@terreyhills4 жыл бұрын
That is one advantage of fighting fires in the dark, the embers which can cause so much damage are so much more visible.
