It warms my heart to see other people who love and appreciate this anime as much as I do. It's frustrating to live in a world where anime like this is all but forgotten, never seen in anime stores or cons, and never heard of by the current generation of fans. I'm enjoying reading these comments of fans like me, who watched it and were haunted by it 20~ years ago.

This stuck with me. You've got to remember when this came out anime wasn't EVERYWHERE like it is now. You had to put in effort to actually find stuff because there was no streaming and only a couple of channels to find it on TV. I remember buying VHS tapes that only had like 1 or 2 episodes of anime on it, and it was like 40 bucks sometimes. We had it hard 20 years ago.

@@FireBomberBassist Back in the 90's I remember it was when my parents still thought "oh it's a cartoon it's safe" (they no longer think that after attempting to watch some with me) first anime i ever saw was Vampire Hunter D I was probably 6 or 7....and I was hooked. Then the same channel played this and I've remembered it ever since. It was really tough growing up being the kid in school that liked anime. I'm 32 now, and still remember going to my first "con" it wasn't much but I was probaby 16 and was so ecstatic to find other people into anime, I still have some of my vhs tapes I refuse to part with them, because they're from when anime was still all hand drawn.

I played the first verse of this to a Japanese friend of mine who had never heard it and the song really scared the crap out of her. She thought it was a bad omen 😄 Also, for those who dont know, cinnabar dye is another word for mercury sulphide (HgS) which is a highly toxic mineral that used to be used to paint ceramics. So when the singer says "Ten - let's stain our tongues with cinnabar dye", she is implying suicide more or less.

Me too.Things kind of went down hill around 2007. Though the past season had a lot of excellent stuff so I haven't given up hope yet. I just long for series that make me feel the way those 90s and early 2000s ones did. How they all carried a certain dreamlike, grim, meditative quality with interesting themes, plots, and characters or at least could deliver a spectacle that somehow managed to feel deeper than it may have actually been.

Japan went soft. This generation had violence, romance, and reflection. Now, it's mostly characters trying to understand why they feel a certain way.

I hope they have voice actors in heaven. - Gassho" Just curious how to know who's right on this one. Could be an error in translation or bad info being passed around - who knows?
