Great instruction, I had to fix this in a newer model Fabia III combi 2016 today, but the point where the mechnism is connected to the rotating Motorblade was off, and it seems that it's just 'clicked on' there...I'm not very confident that it will stay on, but can't see how to tighten it since it doesn't have a hole or a bolt? Do you happen to know how this works in the newer model?
@HatBoyHarvey2 ай бұрын
These are usually a press fit type fitting. You can try to tighten it in a vice, but you may also Roger it and render it useless. Usual thing is to replace the whole mechanism. A salvage yard or eBay would be the cheapest.
@vossenspringer2 ай бұрын
@@HatBoyHarvey Thanks! Do you know if you are supposed to be able to 'jiggle the whole unit out' in a Fabia III model too? Because it seemed to be stuck behind the board where the boardcomputer is on, and I thought I would have to remove that to losen the screw behind it on that side. And do you know if it's not on tight enough if you can take it on-and-off without using too much force? It's not that it falls off or anything, but I figure if it was off, why was it off in the first place, right? :D Another weird thing I noticed was that when the wiper arms were off, the mechanism wouldn't start moving when I put the wiperswitch on in the car, is there a logical explaination for that, maybe 'smart electronics' detecting if the wipers are on or something, or detecting in which 'position' they are? When I built everything back together however, they just started working again, which left me with a feeling that I didn't really 'fix' it, if you know what I mean? At first I thought I was dealing with a stuck or defective motor, but now, after the wiperarms are back on again, they seem to work fine. My gf has traveled to The Netherlands from Austria with it in the rain, and the wipers broke down 5km from my house, so it might be very dangerous to drive back on wednesday with this problem not fixed 100% if it rains again...

Hey Harvey - Skoda Fabia 2008 - the right windscreen wiper has suddenly stopped working but left works perfect! Obvs an issue so I can’t drive it due to beautiful England weather! My mechanic wouldn’t even look at it saying it needs a new motor change and just left! The right blade is really loose compared to the other and wondering if I did exactly this then maybe it’ll work? I’m so unsure, wish I knew more about this or knew someone who did.
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
I would strip it down and have a look to see if the mechanism has come apart/loose underneath the scuttle panel. If that is the case you should be able to put it back without taking the whole motor out. If you don't feel you are up to it following my video don't attempt it at all and find someone who could. I'm sure the issue can be sorted relatively easily though, even if a new motor mechanism (scrap yard best bet here) is needed. You could post a video using your phone on your channel for me to look at if you like showing the issues. Hope that helps :-) just realised your Fabian us a mk2, so it will be slightly different I think.

Like the 'Open Source; analogy I'm working my way through the peripheral and most common faults that I or others have had. Hi Harvey My Fabia 1.2 Petrol 2005 wipers seem to have forgotten their park position. I believe the reason for this was somebody trying to clear a windscreen full of snow off some years ago and it's pulled the mechanism out of sync. They wipe fine but park themselves about 5 inches up from the proper park position. Are you aware of this issue/what I will need to do to fix it? Does the wiper motor need taking apart or linkage adjusting? Your videos have been invaluable for other small jobs on my car so thanks for creating as much content as you do!
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
does it do it in all speed positions and do they now go over at the top end?
@djturbine7565 Жыл бұрын
@@HatBoyHarvey They move through the full range of motion with no issues. They don’t hit the A pillar at the top or the scuttle panel at the bottom. The issue is when you turn the wipers off, they stop about 5 inches up the windscreen on the up sweep.
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
It sounds as though the snow removing process may have moved the park switch so you would need to take the scuttle panel off and adjust the linkage on the splines. I've never done that, sorry, so it would be new to me also. Maybe you could just move the wipers themselves on the splines, that's all I ever did, but I'm not saying that's the thing to do as it may just move the wipers lower and the top then is short. I didn't dismantle the motor any further on this video, so maybe I should have explored a bit more. I have an old rear motor, maybe I will look at that one. Sorry not to be of more help :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey Yeah I have been attempting to get them off and adjust their position this afternoon but they’re completely seized up so have ordered a puller tool. My front viper blades stopped working but the back one still works. Any guesses on how I might be able to fix it ? Great channel by the way ! Already found it helpful with my new car 😊
@HatBoyHarvey2 жыл бұрын
Which model/year? Have you looked at the fuses 15, 41 ? test the fuses are OK with test light. Has it been frosty and the wipers have gotten stuck on the windscreen? Take the scuttle panel out and test to see if there is power to the unit? if there is then try helping it move when activating as the motor may be stuck, if so then replace. Is there is a relay next to the motor assembly - check/replace? if not then the relay is in the electronic control unit under the drivers dash - check connections, it could be something as simple as a bad ground to the motor. Also the wiper stalk lever switch maybe faulty - spray electrical contact spray in switch and move/ dismantle and test/replace. Hope this helps. The wipers are usually pretty reliable and no fun if it rains without, so I hope you can find the fault :-)

Hi Harvey, the front wipers of my skoda fabia combi are making noise and stutter when they are moving up. I already changed the wiper blades (bosch aerotwins) but it wont help. Do you know if there is anything else i can try? Thanks!
@HatBoyHarvey3 жыл бұрын
There are a number of things to do here and one of the things is buying new ones, which you have done by buying great wiper blades as I have these too. You need to use a good screenwash and not just water with antifreeze. You need to super clean the windscreen properly all over. Clean the blades with WD40. check the tension of the arms onto the windscreen, if it is weak then you can fix this by bending the arms a bit. Check the spring and mechanism is working without play. Are the wiper arms secured at the base, tighten if necessary. Check the size is correct for your particular car model. If you have viewed this video, do you suspect the motor and mechanism? is it loose/noisy?

Hi Harvey my passenger side wiper is not working, and when I look where the nut is the threaded bit just spins, would I need to replace the whole linkage or has something come undone?
@HatBoyHarvey4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like either the threads are threaded or the wiper has rounded off and will no longer grip the shaft. If the threads are gone you will have to get another unit or if the wiper arm only, then you're lucky and only a new arm is necessary. you maybe able to repair the thread and fit another nut if the nut is mainly causing the issue :-)

Just wondering but my wipers on my fabia work but stop on the upright position. Would I have to do this or would they rest automatically?

You may have a relay issue, I would use OBD2 diagnostics first to see if you can reset/test the wiper function.
@walterzul3 жыл бұрын
Hi friend. What kind of oil and grease do you use to lubricate?
@HatBoyHarvey3 жыл бұрын
I think the mechanism is relatively protected from the rain and dirt, but maybe it would be prudent to use a waterproof grease here. not sure if there is a rubber seal in the shafts, maybe there is and if so then a silicone grease would be best otherwise white lithium waterproof grease. Of course if you haven't got these then any general purpose grease is better than none at all. I use car oil first to to free things up - clean off then apply grease. Hope this helps and isn't too confusing :-)
