SKODA FABIA Instrument Panel NOT WORKING (Mk1 99-07)

Some people's instrument clusters don't work on the fabias becouse of cracked solder joints from all the vibrations and temperature changes, only solution is to resolder them. I had this problem on my interior light on my fabia when you pushed on it it would light up, after resoldering every solder joint and bending back the spring contacts on the switch it works. Are you going to do a video on the airbag light? I bought an vag kkl 10€ diagnostic cable when you get used to it, it is a pretty handy tool. When you get the vcds lite or vag com 409.1 full version you can change features on the comfort unit (for the electric windows,... you should have it), program keys, test instrument cluster warning lights, lcd displays, the rpm meter, speedometer,... Or adjust power steering power level, adjust service intervals,.. It is a very powerfull tool when you learn how to use it, if you get it also get the service manuals so nothing get changed ireversably or damage. Thanks, I have already covered the dry solder joints on this board before @: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHbUkpdohbdjgsk. In this video I believe the problem was moisture on the contacts from condensation caused by me leaving the widow open in hot weather during a downpour. these boards do get dry solder joints though from cyclic and extreme temperature changes as well as vibrations as you rightly say and I may have more of these lurking amidst it's underbelly. I haven't yet got VagCom, but intend to get it at some stage, my mate will clear the airbag light (well spotted) when I put the car back on the road for the MOT - no worries, I know why it's there, (did some work without disconnecting the power!) I would like to do more on the vehicles electronic fixes, but It is not my field so only an amateur at it. You can add cruise control to most fabia bar the very early basic models. You will need to add it in adaptations with vcds or other obd2 diagnostic device.

depends where the noise is coming from - inside or out? The exhaust rear heat shield fixings corrode causing the shields to become loose and rattle. Inside the central air vent attached pipes can become detached and vibrate. Engine and it could be just the tappets. Hope this helps :-)

Hi, i have a fabia mk1 and whilst driving every 40 or so miles the dash will bleep then the oil, power steering, handbrake and abs light will come on and the revs, speedo and temp gauge will drop and stop working, when I switch the engine on and off this resolves, do you have any experience of this? And would you suggest it could be a faulty instrument cluster? Thanks!

Hmm, sorry to hear your having this issue. It sounds like a connection problem to me, check the connection to the ecu and ground connection and then, yes, look at the instrument cluster. Look for loose/damp connections and on the pcb, dry solder joints with cracks and if needed re-flow them. If you don't have much look then obd2 to read any fault codes especially when you think it is working ok. Work methodically and don't rush it :-)

@@jocelynplumos6799 often the PCV valve needs replacing along with the crank case breather unit on this engine. Oxygen sensor could also be faulty and if you have idle, misfire issues then coil packs, plugs may need replacing. If you have access to an OBD2 diagnostic device it will narrow it down easier without spending unnecessarily :-)

I have Skoda Rapid Tdi 2013 Stage 1 done. Have driven 2000km after doing so. I have just changed the battery and after new battery is set, the speedometer stopped and glowplug signing on. There is no pickup issue at all. Only kilometre reading stalled. Checked the ECM terminals, no ABS sensor issue detected. On scanner Speed reading is showing though , checked speed needle motor on scanner Ok. All error codes are erasing but Error code P061000 cannot be cleared. What to do ??

Make sure your earth connections are all good. Maybe the new bat needs coding again .correctly. Has it got stop/start and Kessy? If so you need vcds to code. If you have installed a chip tune - that chip may have failed. Check back with manufacturer to test and replace. Try taking out connections to instrument cluster, clean out connections with electrical contact spray and. Re-connect.

@@HatBoyHarvey ok 2 things i will check a) Earthing b) clean speedometer cluster socket terminals No Kessy , it is remote operated without push at the door. And i did via Master Slave file download process from Diamond Trix , no chip tune

@@b-deep_bom shouldn't be the tune then, but you could try reverting it to standard again as a test to see if is that. Do you not think it's got something to do with the bat change? It was working fine before, right? Let me know how you get on :-)

All I've done here is disconnect it and then reconnect it. I believe this was down to the car stood idle for some time and moisture affected the contacts so if you think your scenario is the same it is worth a try. Don't forget to disconnect the neg earth lead before. Octavia will be very similar :-) the other thing it can be with these older cars I'd dry solder joints on the PCB which is worth checking for before you reinstall it. If you are careful with a soldering iron re-flow any joints that show cracking :-)

Changing the instrument cluster will need the ECU coding to adapt it and you will need the keys for that model too.

I had this problem everything was flashing on my panel. I resoldered and it's working fine but the speed indicator still going crazy (especially in the zone 40-80kmh it starts being unstable and go back to zero when moving). Any other ideas could be causing this kind of malfunction. No warning lights come on.

The problem has returned and I haven't fixed it yet. No power and light ATM. Car failed in middle of nowhere. Had to get towed back.
