I think snobbery starts when you associate the products with the people. For example: I think it's fine for Smith to think Asda has poor quality products, but I don't think it's fine to turn his nose up at Asda because of the people who shop there. The reason being because they may need to be there because of the lower prices. I think if you're objectively basing your opinion of a place on the quality of goods or service, that is not snobbery.

I’m listening to this podcast at quarter to 8 in the morning after just being accepted to my 5th waitressing job. I was actually supposed to go to do my MSc in Palaeoanthropology (study of the beginning of our species and our hominin ancestors) in September, as I was super lucky enough to take a few years out and do my degree at 20 rather than 18 and I think it changed so much about my education. I was more mature, knew I didn’t want to go back to working in a waitressing job, and wanted a real education in something I loved. Unfortunately though, at 23, I’ve had to postpone my masters for another year due to COVID which sucks. A lot of my masters would be laboratory work and hands on excavation so I’ve chosen to take a year out because I’m not getting another 9k into debt to be stuck at home with remote learning. But a lot of things I agree with here, keep it up boiks xx

Universal Basic Income is a fantastic concept. Imagine being able to live without having to work? You would work because you want to, not because you have to. Employers wouldn’t be able to treat you like shit, they’d have to compete with each other to give their workers the best ‘extras’ to ensure they continue working for them, whether it be more holidays, better sick pay, dental care, whatever. And sure some people would take advantage and never work, but people take advantage of every system, most people would still work. I’d rather live in that world than this one.
@iamjames82004 жыл бұрын
Name me an example that works.
@wofl4474 жыл бұрын
Well it’s never been properly implemented into any country. Alaska has the closest attempt where they give a single bulk payment to every resident in October. This is paid for by their oil profits. Spain is currently looking at implementing a minimum income system. Also there was a test performed in Manitoba called ‘Mincome’ that was seen with a lot of people finding it beneficial, while some rural people (farmers, etc.) struggled to find workers. I would argue that if they’re struggling to find workers, they’re not offering enough of a benefit for working there but I don’t know as I wasn’t there haha. I would also like to ask, name me a single example of capitalism that works? Any country that has poverty is failing so.
@iamjames82004 жыл бұрын
Wofl name me an example of a non capitalist country that works. Capitalism is not perfect no system will ever be perfect but so far this is the system that works the best. And it completely depends on how you define ‘works’.
@wofl4474 жыл бұрын
James Bentley works in the best way how? It works the best for the people in charge, it’s why we never change. Somewhere in the middle would be the best system, where you have the possibility for people to work very hard, make a great business and make plenty of money; but you also have enough support for the bottom of the spectrum so we have no homeless people and no people struggling to just survive working a minimum wage job. I’ve already listed some examples of other systems in other countries.
@iamjames82004 жыл бұрын
Wofl it’s never going to be that way though is it. There will be homeless under any system and there will always be people struggling, the fact that we’re able to have this conversation right now is due to capitalism.

Also I think Smith misunderstands tax bands. He said they didn't want to pay each other more as they would fall into a higher tax band. But you only pay that higher tax amount on earnings over the band. Your earning under it are still payed at the lower tax level. For example if you earn £60,000 you get the £12,500 personal allowance tax free, £37,500 at 20% band and then £10,000 at 40%. They are very few situations were you earn less by going up a tax band.
@justbailey96254 жыл бұрын
@@YipeeKiYayJB I'm familiar with regressive taxation, and in some scenarios, for example, a minimal increase in income that pushes you over the tax bands will result in an overall net loss in post-tax income. The thing about the keto diet is that it may work as a short-term method for weight loss but it's not healthy to do long-term and actually can be very harmful. Also it doesn't really work switching back and forth from it to keep off weight, you need consistency in your diet. I think the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to make healthy everyday habits in your life, particularly when it comes to exercise and eating. You can still eat whatever you want, just in moderation. Its okay to indulge every once in a while but not all the time. Also watching portion sizes is probably one of the biggest things, a little can go a long way. For me personally, being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes has helped change my perspective on how I eat and how much I eat. Don't get me wrong it sucks but it forces me to watch how much I eat and keeps from overindulging

It was sad to hear you make quite opinionated points and misrepresentations of other views, and then immediately say that we should be less dogmatic and more open about these conversations. I'd really recommend reading more about public v private companies, capital markets, Gini coefficients and wealth inequality rather than saying "everything is capitalism's fault, I don't understand why these evil people won't just agree with me".
