Strictly speaking, sea monkeys are brine shrimp, which are a saltwater relative. They benefit from being able to have multiple successive generations within the same body of water, whereas fairy shrimp lost that ability, and now only produce dormant eggs that need a dry period. Sea monkeys can be used in a similar setup using saltwater instead of fresh, and that setup will be even more long-term, but getting the right multicellular algaes to replace the true plants from freshwater will be more expensive, and you can't simply use dirt in the sand the same way you can in freshwater.

I understood about 30% of what you said but aren't those plants and snail he used freshwater and not saltwater since thats what sea monkeys need? I have no clue what the water parameters are either.

Just a heads up. If you're inspired by this and try to put what's marketed and sold as Sea Monkeys by toy companies in freshwater they'll die. The sea monkeys sold as toys are brine shrimp and need very salty water. These lovely little guys are fairy shrimp, their cute freshwater cousin

No, this is not salt water, because the salt content in which Sea Monkeys live is really high and mostly only the algae where they feed
