Please visit my full Hatching Time Quail Cage review article here on my website emergencyprepguy.com/hatching....
Here is an article I wrote on raising poultry for meat from your backyard:
emergencyprepguy.com/best-pou.... It also has a link to where you can get the Hatching Time stacking cages I show in the video!
Here is an article I did on raising chickens at home:
emergencyprepguy.com/how-to-r.... I have a link on there where you can get the Omlet Eglu chicken coop and fencing.

This is perfect timing 😄. I was just watching your past videos again a couple of hours ago and was wondering how they were doing since I am looking at the chicken growouts and you are one of the few people who talk about them. Thank you in advance 😎

Hope You charged them extra for that installation and figuring out that process and the aggravation! Lol!

How tolerant of the heat are something like Coturnix in a garage in central Texas? Assuming keeping some fans on them and maybe a swamp cooler if needed?
@theemergencyprepguy
@theemergencyprepguy 2 жыл бұрын
They do pretty well in heat as long as they have plenty of water and air flow. They do better in extreme cold than in extreme heat. If garage has no air flow, I would build them an outside hutch. Air flow is the deciding factor. If you have fans don't blow directly on them.

Do you have a link to which cage system you used for the jumbo quail? I know you said small chicken but I don't really see them labeled that way on the website

Sure, here is the link. They have changed their website somewhat so it took me a bit to find it also. They are the same cages they call partridge cages here hatchingtime.com/collections/breeding-cage-systems/bird_partridge. Hope that is helpful.

Have you run into any problems with mites, since this setup has no sand tub for quail to take dust baths? Also do you add grit or oyster shells or anything to their food tray to ensure strong eggs, or just 100% game bird feed? These cages look great, I'm just a bit concerned about those 2 things before I buy.

No, I never had any mite problems with those cages. And once my quail are adults I have better luck feeding them the regular non medicated 16% protein chicken feed for laying hens that has the extra calcium. When they are growing I feed them 30% protein game bird feed or turkey feed. If I were going to buy cages like that again I think I would try these cages quailcage.com/. I have never owned any so I couldn't do a review on them. They are built in America and I think would hold up better than the hatching time cages. I did have a few things break on the hatching time cages. (You can buy replacement parts from hatching time though.) This video shows the outside quail cages I built and use now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIvaiZd5aZ6NiJo. Hope that helps.

You quail breeding boxes have walls that are open across the layer. Is that standard, or did you get additional internal walls. Do the standard layers come with 3 separate boxes normally?
@theemergencyprepguy

Yes, normally they are 3 separate boxes. I probably should have mentioned that in the video. I cut those out and then sanded off any sharp edges from the cut. It was a mistake though. Not enough room to have multiple roosters that way and so they fought. They worked better as 3 separate boxes.

I'll have one of the smaller brooders, the 9.5" like I think you have. How long do you think I can keep newly hatched chicken chicks in them? I'm hoping at least 4 weeks so I can put them directly into the outside tractor. I'll only have six or seven chicks.

I have not yet tested that myself. I most likely will this spring. I would say until they get to tall. You will know.
@lorenaroma
@lorenaroma Жыл бұрын
I'm starting that right now with 13 less than a week old chick's. I'm starting them in my quail brooder then I will be moving them to a quail grow out size. Then outside!

I found that chickens are just too tall for the quail brooder by 3 weeks. I worry they will burn their little heads. I got two chicku brooders for them. And the 15" are too tall for the quail who can't reach the feeders before they re off heat!

@Better Homemaking Network I don't really think at that point they would need heat inside. The space is heated but also I have a heat lamp there pointing to front of cage because for some reason I did not get the heat cord feom them AND I need to call and find out why. So yes I just got it assembles and do not have a cord for that heater that came with the cage and had no choice but to use the h3at lamp pointing towards the feed troth . It's working fine they just lay onsid3 the feed truth to warm up then they retreat inside it too hot. I have a sensor inside that say 85 and about 90 in the area of the feed truth and they are about a week old.
