A tour of our Hatching Time Quail cages and Brooder.

In this video, I show our Hatching Time cages, some modifications to the cages and automatic watering system. Also, considerable time with our Hatching Time Brooder. The cleaning of it and care of the baby quail.

They make small half pint jars that fit the feeder and water bases. I use those in brooders where space is tight.

For the brooder, if you flip the white trough grill over, it'll block off the space.

I only use this brooder when I do a hatching. It has never been an issue.

so i've watched a few of your other videos. trying to tie this all together in my head. At three weeks, you transfer the quail to the adult breeder cages correct? And those breeder cages have the optional larger floor openings for the jumbo version of the quail that you are housing, and that allows the poop to move thru the floor better. Another person recommended the partridge sized cages for the jumbo quail so the poop goes thru the floor. They are slightly taller as well from what I am reading. For jumbo sized quail, what would you recommend? Im looking at the 2 layer brooder set up, and then 1 layer grow out, or possible 2 breeder cages that have the egg catch at the front. My concern with those is that the smaller quail (at 3 or 4 weeks) may be able to get out thru the bottom egg openings. Any issues with that?

Hey, thanks for the questions.. So, as you can tell, I have both the standard Quail cage bottoms and the larger chicken cage bottoms. I have concluded with my birds, the larger chicken cage bottoms really do not make much of a difference. So often these birds like to poop it seems on the sides of these cages. The poop will not always drop easily whether you have the larger or smaller cage grill bottoms. I clean my birds poop trays x 2 every week. No smell or Oder as long as I use pine chips. Super easy to clean. Since at least in my situation I really see no difference with the larger grill, on my next cage order, I will just request the standard Quail bottom grills. If the poop does not easily drop down, I simply poke it down and that is not frequent. I rarely have to do that. It’s to me no big deal. Also, I’d recommend it is not necessary to have a grow out cage. Just the Brooder or regular cages with the roll out for the eggs. The Quail, whether you have jumbo or regular size, will not escape or get loose as you were wondering. At least for me that has never occurred. By the third week, both regular and jumbo size Quail are mostly feathered out and I transfer them into their permanent home with the roll out egg cages. I have never had an issue with that, plus saving money. In this coming week, I will order the Quail Cage-2 Layer as additional cages to my current ones. Already my babies as of last night observance, are beginning at 6 days old to grow feathers. I need more space. Thank goodness these cages now come with the detachable dividers. I like to have my birds move about as much as possible. Hope this helps somewhat. Wayne

Not a big fan of battery cages. No real quality of life for egg layers.

Understood. Yet, please understand, our birds have the best ever. Clean cages, organic feed, purified water and they in the most part have a lot of room to roam around and have a life. Our birds are to pets. They are for food. Either for eggs or for meat. Our property is not condusive for free ranging. It's steep upward and not flat. So.. we do the best we can. A lot of my money has gone into to provide the best living conditions for them. Hope to can understand a little bit better now. I guess not everyone will be happy. Thanks for watching. Wayne

Meant to say in my previous comment to you, that our Quail are not pets. They are considered our food source.
