unfortunately the 3D digital scanning technology came too late to the dental industry. but better late than never. what would be REALLY INTERESTING is to see re-growing natural teeth (with the stem cell). that's gonna be awesome. someday soon i hope.. thanks for the video.

I like the idea of 3-D impressions but what about people that have the TMJ disorder the cannot open the mouth wider than 16.5 mm?

My dental implant specialist said he prefers the old way finds it more accurate..he had the scanner and found they didn't seem to be as accurate. So they went back to the old way>does this sound accurate ? I thought it was strange.

Hello Dr. Yim, I have a question.. Can I get a digital scan impression along with a bite and then take the film to my regular dentist for him to prepare my dentures?

Hi Natalie, that is possible. The scan is a file that can be emailed directly to the lab of your choice and your dentist can work with that lab to design your denture. However, the lab must have a 3D printer. Also 3D digital impressions are best for PARTIAL dentures where there are natural supporting teeth on either side of the missing teeth. Approximately how many teeth are missing?

The 3D scanning is most accurate on hard surfaces (teeth). So, if you’re missing that many teeth, your best option is the traditional impression technique. Do you have a strong gag reflex?
