I’ve always imagined an AU where an iterator finds a way to keep an ancient from ascending, and continues to keep them trapped in their city. Either out of misguided love, or genuine sustain for them.

the final cherry on top to the cruelty of the ancients is they didn’t even take the time to enjoy the beauty of the world, they rushed for any chance they could get to leave it behind, forcing everyone to follow wether they wanted to or not. And they made the iterators specifically to HELP THEM do this, without giving them even a chance at freedom, hardwiring taboos and codes into them so they would forever remain trapped, treated like a machine despite having sentience like a living being. The culture of the ancients was cruel, not just to themselves but to everyone around them. So I think hate would be a pretty reasonable response

Not entirely true, the iterators aré specificly meant as a gift to the world, they saw the creatures of their world suffer and thus made the iterators find a solution to this suffering, they were still cruel but they had empathy plus sliver did the very same thing to saint
