Wow.... that was a derr moment for me watching that! I often crochet over my ends but have never flip flopped the yarn like you just did! Brilliant! I go through bursts of not minding sewing in ends & other times of hating it & procrastinating! I'm in that phase now, so I've designated "Finish It Fridays" for sewing in ends & sewing on buttons on baby cardigans which I detest more than sewing in ends!!! Once I get started, I wonder why I make such a fuss of it as it's done in no time at all! Anyhow, love that tip, Clare!! I just have to remember to do it! 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

Funnily enough, I discovered this way of hiding my ends by accident, Clare, as I loathe sewing in ends! It's a great way of hiding them 🤣 I also do the same for the ends at the opposite side, too, just grabbing up the ending, as I begin a new line, catching up the old ending in whatever my first stitch of the new line is. Of course, it's much easier when doing rounds, but works so well with flat pieces, as you showed us! 😀 Anyhoo, I rarely have to sew in ends any more 🤣 BTW, Clare, I can't wait for this tutorial, as your piece looks glorious - & I have a load of leftover balls of yarn to use up! ❤️

I love your tips!! They are all so organic to the work. As a knitter of literally decades, a very similar method is how I always worked in ends. So it was natural for me to do it when I picked up crochet from YT during the pandemic. I never thought anything of it, since it was automatic for me. I'm glad it works so well for you!! I've always believed some techniques between the two crafts were interchangeable. Which one you work is simply a matter of preference at the time. It doesn't seem to me that there was always such a separate 'tribe' feeling about different methods - it was all just fiber handwork. BTW, there are ways to hide contrast colors and work it on the other end, both are a bit more involved, though. To hide the contrast, flip the tail up and over right after the first yo, but don't bring it front. Then flip it after the first loop is pulled up, but again, don't bring it forward. The worked in end will resemble a very short Fair Isle knitting carry. Little specks of contrast will be visible, but your eye will ignore them. For the end of the row, start a few stitches from the end. Keep the yarn attached, pull out a very long amount of yarn, then work over the end still attached to the ball with the end attached to your work. Once you get to the end of the work, pull the worked over end snug, and cut it. Like I said, a bit more involved. But it works. Sorry if sharing this seems impertinent, it certainly was not my intent. Just something to try. 😊
@CrochetwithClare2 жыл бұрын
I love the tip for the end if the row!!! I need to try that. Thanks for watching my video 🥰
@Lady_of_Ishpeming2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I do use this method! I also 'sew in' my ends at the END of my row! *At the end of the row, fold your last tail back and lay it on top of your working row. Crochet over the end and after your last stitch, give your work a slight tug to straighten your edge if needed. Cut- Stitch- Repeat! * LIFESAVER/TIME SAVER! I use this method especially when I am working with mosaic Crochet. I hope you try the ending of the row method! God bless and happy stitching ❤

I started doing this a few years ago when I made my first Sophie’s Universe. I use a needle to just go through a few stitches toward the start just to make sure that little tail doesn’t unravel. It really just takes a min and gives me extra peace of mind. You can do it for those tails on the other end also. When you are several stitches from the end lay the tail on the top of the existing stitches, then weave it as you go just like you did with these tails. No need to use a needle on these ones since the yarn goes both ways. I hope that makes sense.
