You can put fly blocks out for them. It's a feed through fly control that breaks the cycle of the fly at the larvae stage.

Your place is beginning to look awesome. It’s time consuming to do improvements but man the effort is so rewarding. You colt/mare/stud family are gorgeous. All 3 are put together like a horse should be. What about the fly catchers that most stores sell. Or by online at Amazon who have the larger ones for sell. I use them and they are worth the effort to put out.

Farmer Tyler Ranch doesn't have horses but he has cows and he has them go through a pasture gate that he's had a fly treatment on that basically dangles from one gate post to another Gate Post and they walk through it and it coats them as they go through it. And he doesn't when they are being heavily attacked by flies. I don't know if this is a possibility for something that could spray as they lick salt licks or minerals. Because he also uses a sprayer through a gate as well.

We put a burlap bag over the exit door on our dairy barn and the cows would be coated with dust as they exited. It was probably something like seven dust, but that's been fifty years ago so I don't really know what was used.

Beautiful horses! I wish the best for all living beings, that includes your horses too. There's a lot more troubling things going on in our Nation than Chippy breeding Lex. As for making a name---it seems to me that the folks who buy your horses and train them to be a roping horse or cow horse or whatever, those are the people making their reputation grow.

Blaze is a cutie. All your horses are beautiful and I watch a lot of videos about horses, horse, breeding, etc. and almost everybody who’s in the business of breeding seems to breed their mayor when she still has a young foal I would be more concerned with just if the mayor is a healthy mayor to begin with. I had commented before that we rescued a Hackney pony and unbeknownst to anyone she was already pregnant. She had the cutest little Philly on May 1, the Philly was born with gray eyes and silver gray coat except her main tail feet and face were black the vet everyone thought she’d be a GRUILLA but now she’s lost a lot of her full coat and she just seems to be all black. I know that can change so we’ll see what happens we really love her. She’s very beautiful the vet, so she has perfect confirmation. We have no idea what her dad is but she’s not even three months old and she’s almost as big as her mother.

There a new product out called Equispot. You apply a spot of the pesticide in numerous places along the neck, back and legs of the horses. It deters flies, fleas and ticks for two weeks. I’ve heard good response about it. Maybe once every two weeks would be more feasible. Love the Delmar fence panels, and the horseshoe touch on the posts is awesome! ❤❤❤

Line breeding can strengthen a line of genetics and it can also bring out any weaknesses. It really depends on how confident you are in those genetics. It sounds like you're breeding sound working horses and building a successful reputation on that isn't a bad thing and isn't dependent on strictly show confirmation. We used those gross🤮 gallon jars that pulled flies away from our horses and had to be emptied or thrown out on a regular basis . but we had pretty much just flies not those big horse flies or bots.

Alan, that seems like a beautiful colt in the future. It is your decision and you know the outcome from the registered horses you have. 66 is fantastic and Lex is beautiful, her new colt is a great addition to the line of horses. I can't wait to see what the future on the Farm brings. Maybe that wonderful Missionary Blake will be home to see the new addition. The new stud pen is going to be great. Going to miss Maureen, hopefully she will continue to visit . Looking forward to more vlogs from the Palmer farm. Hopefully Vicky & the rest of your family are doing well this hot summer.

Wow, the farm is looking good. Those panels are fantastic you could even use them to use for coops or small pens. The line breeding is not inappropriate as long as they are far enough apart. The delmare panels for the stallion pen is very wise and smart use to keep the boys safe and less likely to get out or step through. Continue to run the farm and this channel the way you want. There will always be nay sayers. Ignore them and do what is right for you. Most of us who watch you channel do so because we appreciate how much you help and love the horses and other farm animals. Continue to do you, that is the only way to be an example and light to others. Farm On! ✌💖🕯🙏🐎🐎🐎

Many years ago auburn university was working on a way to control horse flies. It had something to do with treating adult flies and causing them to lay eggs that were always sterile males. I know at one point they were asking us to let them try this with our barn and pastures. One thing was yes it cut down on flies but it didn’t stop flies from the area coming in. It would take about 5 years to see a real drop in flies not a quick kill. This was around 30 ish years ago so I’m not sure about the results. You could contact the university or try a vet school in your state to see if they’ve done more work with the fly problem. ANYWAY rofl I think you know your horses and bloodlines better than anyone else so just ignore rude people!

I really enjoy your videos. The fence looks great. I really like the idea of reinforcing the posts and rails with horseshoes; it looks really nice. You are using good logic in your breeding program and, even though you are breeding for the traits you want in a horse, most people would be thrilled to have a horse from your breeding program. Don't pay attention to negative commentors; they are unhappy people with very narrow minds. By the way, I really like your demeanor and the way you communicate. Keep up the good work.

I don't know if this really works or not, but another KZbinr was using coconut oil on her cow and wow, it really made a difference! She had rubbed on one side and it was without flies, the other side was covered. I don't know how long it would last, but if it does, it might be worth trying. I'm sure you have some in the cupboard, and with this weather it will be liquid. So try it on one horse and see.

Hi Alan - from Australia! 🇦🇺 regards your query about flies. The Sheep Game channel in Scotland were advertising a supplement called crystalex which is a stock lick - this company sells a variety called Garlyx for cows which has magnesium and stuff in it, but it also has Garlic! Which they say has been proven to stop a percentage of flies from landing on cows. Not saying this is suitable for horses but maybe there is a natural horsey equivalent which would be safe. The cows look like they love it! God bless Alan.
