Smith, there (probably) is no "edge" of the universe. If you teleported to the edge of our _observable_ universe, it would look largely similar to where you came from. Clusters of galaxies and whatnot. Probably. If you teleported to the time at which the light we're seeing from the edge of the observable universe was emitted, you'd be in an almost completely homogenous couldron of hot gas that only just cooled from a plasma. Nothing complex or interesting. Probably. This interpretation depends on spacetime being flat. Which measurements suggest it is.

You know smith the universe doesn’t actually have an edge. It’s expanding, but it’s not expanding INTO anything. It’s just that the space between everything in the universe is getting bigger. The strong nuclear force keeps our atoms together, bonds keep our body together, gravity keeps planets and stars and galaxies together, but the space between galaxies where gravity is too weak to resist the expansion gets bigger and the galaxies get further apart. This is actually how we discovered the universe was expanding. A guy called Hubble noticed distant galaxies were receding from us at a speed proportional to their distance, which implies the universe is expanding!

Glad I’m not the only physicist that was moulding over this
@dylaneverett458610 ай бұрын
Not a physicist but for clarification: space isn’t expanding into anything. The distances between galaxies is increasing due to dark energy. What dark energy is is a mystery, so we don’t fully know how it works. Space is most likely infinite, though, whether that be a spacetime that goes on forever or one that loops back on itself like pacman. In the case of the former, whether the ‘volume of stuff’ *within* space is infinite is currently unknowable. Again, not a physicist so if any of this is wrong please correct me!

4d miner is its own game which kinda looks like Minecraft, but its not cubes because when you change your 4d coordinate it kinda messes up the cube shape, so its just w/e shape you happen to see. its real cool.

I saw the 4D block-game video (not actually minecraft) and i thought it was crazy cool and id encourage anyone curious to look it up Smith seems a little dimensionally bigoted, 4D is for everyone smith even those minecraft people Personally im not a fan of everything being modded into minecraft either, but the straight lines and edges make the 4D concept a lil more consumable to our fragile, meat computers Also can we up the error count in the script??

The universe doesn't have an edge, there's an edge to where information (and light) has reached, which is expanding at the speed of light into infinity. If you were to venture past that, you would break causality, but otherwise it would just be quite dark. Simultaneously as information is expanding, space itself is expanding which is seperate from the expansion of information. This has no edge as its occuring everywhere in the universe, down to the space between our atoms. Thankfully we have stuff like gravity and electromagneticism to hold it all together for us. I'd go see the dinosaurs.

I love that the end of the math-physics-science talk imploded with the end of the battle. Smith- there's nothing interesting in the "place where space is being created", it's not cool like that. Better questions would be seeing interesting OBJECTS in space, not the boring space itself, doing nothing but adding to itself. Quasars? Black holes, singularities? Magnatars? The nearest space-age intelligence?

Smith! I know it sounds confusing but there technically is no edge of the Universe. It expands in distance, think of it as everything is getting further apart. If you have a static point A and a static point B, the distance between them is growing!

Going to the edge of the universe where things are being created would necessarily mean travelling back in time to the Big Bang. The universe is only seeming to be created at its edge because the light from that creation during the Big Bang has taken the age of the universe to reach us, that’s why it’s a perfect sphere with us directly in the centre

@sam2369610 ай бұрын
smith has stumbled into a very common misconception with the universe and its expansion. We can't see the edge, it is beyond the visible universe, so we have no idea at all what is beyond that. But what we do know is _space_ is expanding. Not the area the universe occupies, but the space between every single particle is expanding. We are a drawing on the side of a balloon, and that balloon is inflating. So there's no border of the universe you can go beyond.
