Kathleen Hitchcock-Warrick was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kathleen was a well-known yoga teacher who had her own TV show called Hatha Yoga which was shown daily on PBS throughout the United States. She taught classes on meditation, pranayama, Raja yoga, and Hatha yoga in the Milwaukee area. Her sparkling enthusiasm and boundless energy drew many students her way.
Kathleen was the first woman to be admitted to the Board of Managers of the YMCA of metropolitan Milwaukee, a position she held for more than ten years. She also worked on special fund raising campaigns for the "Partner of Youth" and "World Service projects."
In December of 1985 Kathleen suffered from an aneurysm, the resulting surgery had unfortunate complications from which she never recovered. She spent the remaining years of her life physically incapacitated in a rest home until she died in November 1993 at age 60

When I was a little girl about 6 years old, I used to watch her show and do yoga with her. Man, I was flexible then. I got into some very blissful states of meditation. It felt great. How on earth did she end up with an aneurysm? I would have thought she would have lived to be 100. It just goes to show that this world can be a roll of the dice, and you never know what numbers will turn up. RIP Kathleen. Thank you for what you taught me.

This beautiful lady made such an impression on me when I was just a young girl. I believe I was around 12 or so...I never missed an episode. I got a leotard and matching tights like her and did every episode in front of the TV! Recently, I found the book that I had ordered all those years ago. Thank you for posting this!!

I watched Kathleen Hitchcock growing up in Milwaukee and would do Yoga with her when I came home from school. These powerful memories have lasted a lifetime, and I wish there were more videos of her online. Thanks so much for sharing this. She was just wonderful.

I watched her religiously in the 70s. I miss those days following along with her on PBS when I could move so easily into the positions. Especially the sun salutation.

I just turned 70. I discovered yoga in 1974. I watched Kathleen Hitchcock on Channel 21, the Long Island channel. I had two toddlers at the time. I remember her teaching a supine pose and saying, "Look behind you! Are there any toys there? They hurt!" Sure enough, I'd have to clear a little car or truck out of the way. I bought her book and used it till it crumbled. Her teaching has never been surpassed for me. I might even say that she was pivotal in my life. I get choked up just thinking about her.

I just now looked up "Kathleen Hitchcock Hatha Yoga" and found this. My mom died when I was 10 and I used Kathleen as a mother figure. I learned a lot about yoga, bought her book, and have done yoga on and off through my life. I'm 50 now and am about to sign up for outdoor yoga. Wow, did this bring back memories. Kathleen really helped me get through some very hard times.

I did this religiously back in Milwaukee during the 1970's, Wow, everytime I've done a daily yoga practice ,you feel great, sleep fabulous and feel physically awesome!! I just signed up for an on-line yoga teacher training in Australia....... Thanks to Kathleen, (what a beautiful, graceful and wonderful teacher) and I still quote her saying "Your as young as your spine is flexible." I still have her Yoga book that I sent for !! I would love a full episode too!

I absolutely loved her! She, by way of her PBS show, helped me recover from my first Stroke when I had 4 children under 5 yrs old... Mrs. Hitchcock was always positive, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable about asanas and counter-asanas for various conditions and states of health and being. My Babies loved her too. And, my Doctors were amazed by what her "slow progress did for me. I have truly missed her all these years. 😪😍💐

I owe much to this beautiful yogini! I watched her daily after school and learned to do the arenas and breathing techniques. Her clear instructions along with her kindness helped me tremendously. I would bet the tapes of her shows are housed in Milwaukee’s PBS station. Let’s try to locate them. Shanti guruji! 💖

She was part of my childhood, and I had no idea about her aneurysm and that she died so young. There are many things you leave in the past when you grow up and move away, but sometimes you meet up with the distant past by chance, and it can really make you feel something. Milwaukee was kind of a hick town back then, and Kathleen was such a lady, and so spiritual. I liked to watch her and listen to her as a kid, even though I had no idea what yoga was, and didn't care to know.

Dan S. I used to watch her on the local PBS station in the early 70s. I found the old book I ordered then and googled her to see what happened to her. I found that she had died at aged 60 so thank you for posting the cause. It would be great if the old programs could be found and reissued. In a Facebook post, it seems that the episodes Amy be lost. Thank you for posting this.

Thank you oh so much for this. It brought back very fond memories. I was just about 12 when I came home from school to watch and draw my stick figure poses. I guess I was ahead of my time. Who knew yoga would be so big? Thanks again!

I'm so glad you posted this. I remember watching this when I was little but didn't know who the teacher was. Lately I was wondering if I had dreamed it. I knew for sure this was the program when she said "shanti" at the end. Thanks. :)

I discovered Mrs. Kathleen Hitchcock in 1972 after I'd had lost the use of my right side due to my first Stroke. She was a tremendous help in helping me to recover. Each week my Doctor at that time would ask if I was starving myself and wonder how I'd lost so much "medication weight". I'd have to tell him that I'd actually started eating more because I was following her directions. There's been no one like her since. She gave you counter asanas and advice on how to do the asanas if you had certain conditions. LOVED HER!!!

I remember as teenager in the house, not best place for me and also with limited TV. Well I turned on PBS and there she was Kathleen. Never saw yoga before but I was fascinated by the crazy positions this woman would put her body. I tried some of the postures then didn't get hooked. But the impression remained and I often wondered about her. Well after many years I finally did a search and I saddened to know she is no longer and her life ended early. I will give it a try again.

It has been driving me crazy for years. I learned yoga from her, and still practice much of what I've learned (off and on). I kept searching, but could only find Lilias! and more recently, Priscilla - and I knew they were not MY Yogini! Sadly, it looks like she suffered her aneurysm not long after I stopped watching because of a divorce and subsequent life changes.

Does anyone have a copy of "Janaki?" I'd love to take a look! I remember PBS stations airing it in the 1970s. It was a 15-minute instructional video about how to fall asleep.👍
