When measuring head size do we give precise measurements or do we add a few cm for better fit? Keep up the great work.

Getting the correct fit is perhaps the most important detail to get right when making an order. We recommend that you measure your head with a flexible tape in centimetres, so that the tape encircles your head sitting across the mid forehead and approx 1cm above each ear. The tape should sit where you want the hat to sit. The tape should sit comfortably without being too tight or too slack. Read the measurement and order your hat size to the nearest half centimetre, rounding up to the next half cm if falling between sizes. I was wondering if the 5 1/2 crown is the measurement with out with out the creases/pinches. I have a tall head (61 size) and my current hat (from David Morgan) keeps touching to top of my head and messes up the creases. Can one request a taller crown? Or is that not possible? Thank you.

Hi Patrick, thank you for your enquiry. The blocks we use are graduated over the sizes with our average at 59cm. This ensures that no matter what size clients order, their hats proportions remain in balance. Only our average block size 59cm measures 5.5inch at its Open crown apex. As your size is 61cm, it is two sizes larger and therfore is taller at open crown height to remain in proper proportion. Additionally there are tolerances as to how high the bash can be for any size so we can also choose to shape the crown at a higher pinch point to allow for more clearance if this is a preference. I’d like to buy one soon..which would be the one to pick for the opening scene (first 15mins of Raiders?) did that one have the turn? Which is accurate sable vs deep sable? Thank you.

@uncanny DX for the opening scenes at the very beginning, you will see the hat has a softer shaping and is worn symmetrically without the turn alteration coming in at this point. This hat would have been pretty much as HJ delivered the hats to the film set and for this look we would recommend ordering our standard no-turn 'Raiders Poet'. To replicate the colour of the actual original hats worn by Harrison in Raiders, we recommend our Deep Sable felts but should you prefer the altered appearance of the felt colour on screen due to lighting and colour filter manipulation, you may prefer our Sable felts, the choice is yours though.

The originals were rabbit but you may wish for the upgrade to beaver to enjoy the extra longevity and wear it can offer. Both are premium quality though and it is entirely up to your choice and requirements which best suits your needs and preferences. Thank you.

Interesting video, however, in 1984-85 hadn’t HJ changed suppliers to Borsalino felts so Mark’s hat wouldn’t be a very useful study for the Raiders fedora as in 1980/81 HJ used felt from Brazil.. nice videos though
