yah agreed but the creator and writer of the show itself has also specifically stated in multiple filmed interviews that, her goal and her idea was always to intentionally end the show when it ended, to coincide with the specific peace accords or peace agreements or whatever it was that ended all that crap that used to happen in Ireland back in ‘96 or ‘97 or whenever it was. If you know when it actually was my apology… am American and love the show but would have to go google some more about it…. but did know the part where the show’s creator had said that on multiple occasions.

I know that the show makes it seem that Joe really hates Gerry, but after watching that particular moment in the S1 finale where Joe puts his right hand on Gerry's shoulder as they were watching the news about a bomb going off, I can't help but think that Joe saying that he hates Gerry is his version of showing love, respect, and appreciation for him. Maybe it's just me. 🤷🏻‍♀

I think he just shits on him cos he's married to Mary and nobody will ever be good enough for his little girls. He treated Kiran (? The lad Sarah's sometimes with on dates) much the same way. But he puts up with him, because he makes Mary happy and I think deep down he does like him. I do feel a bit sorry for Gerry though.

I noticed in Season 3 they seemed to tone down Joe snipping at Gerry, I think they did it because Joe was starting to look a bit like a prick for doing it, I mean Gerry a good man, and plus the only fully sain adult in the show.

It not really Gerry he has the issue with, he just has issue with anyone going out with his daughters. When his other daughter gose out on a date Joe starts picking on him instead. And when Joe gets stoned and relaxes his gaurd he nice to Gerry. Which make me think deep down he dose like and care for him. But the over protective dad alway takes over.

@@Fyreflier I was actually pretty surprised to see him defend James against Gerry in the camping episode (“oh sure, blame the wain”), I was taking a mini class on this show and we had a discussion about how these parents are “strict” on their kids but also seem to defend them and have more leniency for their age than you’d expect from American parents which is an interesting duality (I was also thinking of the scene where Mary is like “your kid is 50 and my girls are 16”)
