Haulaway (CR&R in Colorado) - Recycling Truck

When I filmed this in November 2015, a major storm had just trolled the Denver area a few days prior, leaving ice and excessive snow on every street. It was bad enough that almost all collection companies called off their crews and each service day was delayed as if it were a holiday. Anyway I was messing around in Englewood before catching a flight but I had to know what truck this was when I heard the distant sounds like you do at the beginning of this video. Obviously the neighborhood they are collecting is now contracted to Haulaway, but in the past it was open market. This explains why many people have their old WM and BFI recycling containers. Other residents use their own cans, Haulaway carts, or generic storage bins, so really the only way for many residents to signal what is recycling and what is trash is to set trash on one side of the driveway and recycling on the other. This whole thing is extremely common throughout Denver suburbs that have/had open market residential service.

thanks Raul, yeah the tipper got in their way more but they have so many trash routes with customer-provided carts and many are bibless SSI, so it's necessary

Great bonus of them tipping that zarn towards the end! As other people have mentioned this is no doubt one of the better sounding trucks out there. You know its worth filming when you can hear it 3 streets away haha. Also good to see decent recycling participation in this area too. One thing Ive noticed is how these haulers in CO tend to put 3 guys to a rear loader - so kudos to them for increasing employment. I very much enjoyed this upload!

glad the Zarn clip paid off, there still are lots of those all around the area..but scattered. and yeah I had no idea what this truck even was until I finally found it. I haven't noticed so much of that with three guys, it might just be a coincidence in my recent RL posts..but now that you mention it there's another company that I often see with two helpers in the cab when they go dump. I think Colorado basically just makes a lot of trash lol but overall it's still unusual except for city of Denver and that one other hauler. in this case it was just to catch up from the snow day delay they had. thanks for leaving a comment Eli!

Awesome job and great intro btw. Probably one of their best sounding trucks. I know they intended on replacing the entire fleet. But after talking to one of their mangers recently, it does't look like that will be happening anytime soon. Looking forward to seeing the trash video too!

I'm not sure why they would, these all still work pretty well and 2003 doesn't (seem) all that old. cool that you're in touch with the management there, and I wonder if they'll maybe inherit more trucks from SoCal. it seems like their business model of sticking to HOA contracts would work well with automation if they wanted to go that route in more places..thanks for the comment Aaron

Awesome video, I'm sure you remember how much I enjoy manual recycling collection lol beast sounding truck, definitely makes the footage much more enjoyable to watch and the crew moves at an excellent pace. Great catch, always enjoy seeing the oldies that run around the Denver area

This mcneilus just puts ours to shame. Puts almost any McNeilus to shame. That sound is just fantastic. Once again coming in for the kill with the great videos lol thoroughly enjoyed this one. The snow was also a nice touch considering how it feels like it’s going to snow any day here. Overall really great work. Hope to see more from you, especially the Colorado “CR&R”

Holy shit man, this video made the rest of my day haha. So cool that Haul-Away has a resi fleet in colorado. Only Haul- Away trucks ive seen around here are rolloffs. This roar was fantastic, even better than the NASA trucks down here. Great video bro!

Sounds exactly like the old WM Freightliner FL112s that used to run all over around here. Big fan of the bin verity too. Seems like the recycle rates are higher there, where there is still manual around here it is typically only one bin per home.

that would make sense, I think the M11 engine was common in those FL112s and if this has an ISM like I think it does, that's just the model that replaced the M11. true, maybe, but you guys have weekly recycling collection, right? nearly everything is EOW in Colorado

Holy crap this sounds amazing!!!!!!! I loved the driving shots, sure as heck wished this came to my house very day. I liked his the crew helped each other, and the gripper tipper, and it collected a zarn. the only place by me with rear loaders is orange and Newport Beach, and those sure as heck don’t come to sounding as good as this. Please, make part 2-20, it sounds so good lol. The video ended way to early. Amazing video!

what about Long Beach? still not good-sounding, but you have a few down there. go farther from home and there's San Diego, which will always be home to some amount of rear loaders I think. thanks for the comment, I barely ran up there in time to catch the Zarn being tipped so I'm glad that worked out and you enjoyed

Nomination for best video of 2017? I think so! Holy smokes, words can't even describe how much I love this truck! Absolutely love the takeoffs at 0:38, 1:10, 3:50, and 4:40 - sharp, loud, and mean! I think it beats Nasa R8's sound by a little bit! What year is this roaring rig? Volvo WX64 or Autocar WX64? Cummins ISM straight piped and Allison HD4560, right? What's the body, McNeilus or Leach? Please tell me there's a part 2 to this - 8 minutes is just not enough!

Thanks Sean. it doesn't look to be straight-piped, but sure sounds that way. 2003 Autocar WXLL with an ISM and Mcneilus body. I don't know anything about transmissions, so we'll go with your guess. Thanks again, and stay tuned for the trash video.
