No matter how down I might be feeling for any one of a number of reasons Barry, after a couple of your wee videos I find myself sat here watching with a lightened mood and even a smile on my wrinkly old boat-race. You're doing a fine job old son, long may ye tell yer tales and enjoy yer tinnies. For my money, you're irreplaceable. Stay safe, please. Was interested in those modern linear drogues. Parachutes can fankle-up and not deploy as wished. I used to use them to slow down the drift rate beam-on while trout fly-fishing on big wild scottish lochs. Also at sea over the bow roller to again slow drift rates while lure fishing for cod inshore.

Yes, toaster on the side!! I worked in an Open Heart surgical unit, where one of our nurses tried to rewarm a slice of pizza in a toaster laid over on its side. The charge nurse was taking report on our next patient, when she looked into the break room to see the toaster spitting fire from its mouth. Good Stuff!

Another fantastic episode, IIRIS is looking good, as is SHADDY, all hail the steel cruising yacht.......said he with a chined steel Stadt 34'. PS, I retract any previous comments about Stadts being slow and steady, I recently got 17.7 knots SOG surfing 4M breakung swells off Struisbaai (southern tip of SA) with 35 knots true at 160° bringing my boat from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth during a winter frontal system, we had up to 63 knots true which pinned us against a concrete fishing dock, like I said all hail the steel cruising yacht

You are living my dream, you an d Uma, Curiosity and a few more. I love saling "the seven seas", I´m an ex sailor, merchant. If I got the hand of the dough, I´ve would have bought a boat in an instans, but at 72 pushning 73 it rather be a catamaran for comfort but that would set me back even further depending on the cost. So I´ll dream with you and your journeys. Thanks mate.

What a special moment to see Shaddie and Iiris sitting side by side for a wee chat after all their previous adventures together :) .... and do all sailors over there have grey beards like yours? ;) They looked so happy to be taking you out in there 'wee coastal' yacht. My daughter, Posy, is going to Uni to become a Vet ... she says that Ned is SO CUTE! And then a store selling lots of used tools .... this is becoming yachting porn video! ..... and then you said the new toilet's in and that's another 'job' done .. hahaha ;) .... Whangārei looks beautiful ... I bet it'll have a special place in your heart when you eventually leave. In the meantime .... I love you Barry, keep the videos comin'! xxx

there is a way to make cheese toasties in a toaster without laying it on its side. half toast the bread so the outside is firm then slice the top off the bread and use a knife to make a pocket in the center of the slice. you can then put the cheese inside the pocket and put the slice back in the toaster and you will end up with a toasted cheese sandwich. tastes as good as cheese on toast.

Thanks for the update. Looks like projects are coming along. You probably know this but the sail slides that “looked ‘ like new are not. UV weakens them over time even thought they look good. I’d make sure to have. Some new ones with you before a major passage. New sail look great. And yes, getting scuba tanks filled can be a pain. I carried my own compressor and yes, I was quite popular ha ha. And, if you want to be done for good with marine heads and there maintenance, next time, get a La Vac. Have had 2 on 2 different boats. They lasted for as long as I had the boats, 7 yrs and 9 yrs. with NO maintenance, no jams no problems and because of the high volume of water that passes theough them, I never even had any built-up in the hoses. They also work well as a back up manual bilge pump. Love them ( if you can love a head ha ha ).

I wonder why there is no provision for installing electrical cables during construction of a boat, for instance running a permanent conduit from stern to bow on the underside of the deck so it could be accessed from any point and have draw of points anywhere. Leave a permanent draw line in the conduit for additions and old cables could be added or removed without having to drill holes in the woodwork. From an armchair sailor , used to sail in Albany Western Australia.
