Barry, I have the same inflatable but in a one person version. I love it and it has taken me down class 3-4 water and out fishing too many times to remember. But DON'T OVER INFLATE, OR LEAVE IN THE SUN at full inflation. Its ok for it to be hard when on the water but when you come out let a bit of air out. THE INFLATABLE PART IS PVC and the seam splits easily if inflated to the fullest. Mine lasted 4 months, before the split and they are next to impossible to make a repair on a seam. They repair easily anywhere else with a bit of PVC glue and a bit of pvc material. I found SHOE GOO worked the best on the seam, and as a preventive measure went all the way round the seam with it and have not had a problem with it. CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h.

The marine architect that tought me built those motor torpedo boats in Vospers yard in England just before the war. He said they would line up on a German boat using super quiet V8's then hit the gas... As the V8's reved up a centrifical clutch would start up the main engines and the crew would launch the torpedos as the boat surged forward. They would then turn and run..... Usually under heavy fire from 50 cals.

I know the mud there quite well, was once sailing home past Onerahi and went out of the channel and tacked straight into the mud. Fired up the Perkins and climbed up over a foot. I'd sailed up a sort of creek bed.Only thing to do was hop over the side with my plasterers trowel and scub brush and pretend it was all planned.

GREAT presentation, especially compared to another couple in New Zealand. You addressed nearly all the repair work yourself sharing your involvement straight on with no giggling over every maintenance issue. The other couple giggles their way through every job although a lot of the work is farmed out. You are, by comparison, far more believable and realistic.

So seadog, its been 5 years since you bought the boat, a big change in anyones life and i would have thought the purpose, goal would have been challenged in those 5 years, i am sure you have reflected on that point whilst floating idlely at sea or moored for months at marinas, so tell us your thoughts and possible reasoning to continue, ofcourse thats if you want, i understand it may be a personal journey that you dont need to share. Anyway keep fixing those rust holes and continue on otherwise she will be known as rusty shabby. Btw did i miss an episode of leaving new zealand, not quite sure where u r anymore. Cheers old boy, happy sailing Thierry

‘Keep it simple and it can’t go wrong’ - never a truer word said! I would just love to see how some of the other channels on YT that are ‘teched to the armpits’ in their refits will deal with trying to find an NMEA2000 gizmo in the middle of the South Pacific just so they can navigate the boat using their coffee maker
