Haunted Abandoned Manison near a lake in Maryland woods. Totten family, heirs of Elias Howe, the inventor of the Bobbin or Winder, built their summer home in 1884. The home was last purchased in 1929 and is currently for sale. It has been abandoned since 2004...but it looks like it's been a lot longer to me. During the filming nothing was disturbed, it was amazing to see this historic landmark in person, the history is fascinating.

Beautifully done. And I know it is said all the time, but it is so sad and wasteful to see such wonderful architecture molder away. Even as things are now, I would love to get permission to save the beautiful parts that are left. There are restoration groups that would love to have these parts donated to them for other houses.

I liked this vid much better once I muted the muzak. Okay: I could see a typewriter from the 1920's, a refrigerator from the late 1950's, and a TV that looked like late 1960's. Oh, to be rich enough to restore such a place!

This is the Winderbourne Mansion. It was built in 1884 by Enoch and Mary Totten. He was a prominent Washington lawyer and Civil War veteran, shot four times at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. (A minie ball passed through his right hand after ricocheting off his saber.) Mary's father was Timothy Howe, a senator from Wisconsin and the cousin and heir of Elias Howe, who perfected the sewing machine. All three of the Tottens’ children caught typhoid fever; contracted, it was believed, from tainted drinking water at Winderbourne. One died. A Totten daughter, Edith Totten, became a doctor and adopted a daughter of her own. This child was killed after sliding down - and, presumably, flying off - the long bannister at Winderbourne. Edith herself dropped dead at age 48 after delivering a lecture at Johns Hopkins University. Edward Pickrell Jr., inherited Winderbourne and stayed there until his death in 2004. Paxton Pickrell (now in his 70's) is the current owner. It has an offer pending on Zillow for $875,000. 15001 Barnesville Rd, Boyds, MD 20841. The legal description says "FRIEND IN NEED HARD STRUGGLE" whatever that means.

Thanks for checking out and information. I known most of that from what I looked up going into the house but didn't know house was pending sale or Edith died after lecture. Still is my favorite house to date video and it was the first one I ever did.

Exploring with Stratus View have you figured out how to get in the basement? I've been trying to figure it out for a few years. House is totally boarded and they removed the scaffolding that I used to use to climb on the roof and get in.

that red convertible is about a 75. i'd bet that someone's grandma lived there until the mid 1980s. that's 30 year abandonment right there. nothing in the house newer than the 70s that i could see. what a beautiful place. interesting piece of land too. these were important folks in their time- even the ones who bought in 1929. there is a lot of development in the area of this home, i wonder how much land was originally with this house- probably a lot. that may be why it's still there unsold. they got a ton of dough out of subdividing the land. the little peninsula type piece of land it's on really isn't great for development. (maybe 2-3 lots if you stretched it?)

There is also three Impala convertibles on that property as well. Two 1962's and a 1965 SS 4 speed car!! Unfortunately they are all in extremely rough shape. From the research we did a few months ago before going there ourselves, who found that the last surviving family member lived there until at least the late 90s. I believe it was one of the granddaughters. That house is packed from front to back with so much old stuff, it's amazing. I even found some envelopes from the 1950s and checks dated from the 1960s!!

Earth Day today- was picking up trash really close to this house which I didn't know existed until today !!! Park ranger mentioned - I've only been to this park 100's of times !!! Saw the new eagle nest close by and saw an eagle in the nest - pretty cool and one flying around. Awesome park ! My favorite - can walk or bike to it from home. Nice! Thx for the video post of this house.

Thanks for watching. They say it's haunted because kids died there and you can hear noises. It was crazy we went back a second day and while filming there was a loud bang. Probably nothing but very weird. I honestly wouldn't go back. It was a tad scary. Still my favorite location to film to date.

I grew up near this house. There wasn't a lake there back then. That was made later out of a creek I played in as a kid. Story was that rich people came out from D.C. to stay at Winderbourne, taking the train out to Boyds and carriages the mile or two to the house, to escape D.C. swelter. Later, maybe 1978-82-ish it was an art school. It was a beautiful house in the 1960s when I was there.

I would say this Mansion was abandoned in the late 70's because i have the exact same floor model TV that is in the living room of this house...It was for sale a few years back, but I believe it's off the market now... The owner is the son of the last family that lived there.. When the Mansion was up for sale it was listed for ! Million... the offer was pending for awhile then the listing was removed....It would certainly take alot of funds to get this Mansion back to it's original condtion and perhaps even a year or more to rebuild... For sure it would take a person with lots of motivation, compassion, devotion and lots of funding to turn this once magnificent home back to it's glory..... :-)

I noticed that on the ground floor and just past the end of the wraparound porch there are what appears to be two big doors like the that might be found on stable. Do you or an viewers know if those actually are doors and why they are on a house? Upstairs I noticed some spaces where daylight could be seen through spaces that have opened up in wall. I wonder how much longer house will remain intact before part of it gives way. A great place in its day.

Thanks for watching. I believe the doors you are talking about are the front doors next to the stairs inside. House is not structurally well. There are many areas showing the outside. One part of second floor is caved in too. Didn't attempt to go to the attic. I love the house and history on it though.
