Alyssa Murphy sure! They're not action packed like some Lets Read submissions which is why i never bothered to send them in. But they are 100% sincere and true, so i guess that's something. For context, I am a 25 yo Black female, and no longer live with my parents. I now live in an apartment with my husband. No hauntings here, thankfully! It really started for me when I moved into my parents' creepy attic at age 18. I was pretty pumped to move up there because I got my own staircase and entire floor of the house to myself. I thought I would power through the legendary levels of creepiness in the attic and it would feel like home in no time. Um.. wrong. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and feel that i was being stared at. When I looked toward the foot of my bed I'd see a tall human outline standing several feet away. I know shadow people are a thing, but I never saw red eyes or top hats. Just a solid super-dark outline. Its head and shoulders were distinct and the body was just a long column, no arms or legs to distinguish from any torso. But it seemed to go all the way to the floor and was standing there. No visible face, only the overwhelming sensation that it was staring at me very hard. Turning on the light would always make it disappear instantly. However, a couple of times, the minute i turned the light off i could again see the shadow outline even before my night vision had returned. I would look away and look back, squint and move my head around to see if i could lose sight of this shadow man, thinking rationally, it must be a figment of my imagination. But no, it's a 3D figure in my room, standing seemingly 7ft tall. The thing is, the attic ceiling is only 6 ft. high if that, so it seems to be some type of illusion effect going on. Confusing. I always felt 1: this is male (I'm a bible-believing Christian, so i know it's a demonic presence) 2: it's staring at me and wants me to know it's staring 3: if i engage it, it will approach me 4: if i let myself feed into my fear, it will get stronger and try to hurt me somehow. The attic was also my first time experiencing sleep paralysis. I had never heard of it before, but I had sleep paralysis paired with what my mom calls a "loop dream." It went like this: I would feel that I was awake, but unable to move, hardly even able to open my eyes, like if I really tried I could open them to a squint. I would will myself through what felt like molasses to stand up, even trying to scream, but never able to get the sound out. I tried to get out of bed, to leave the attic, but it felt like my body weighed a ton and I could hardly move it. Slow and steady, the moment I started to make progress, my vision would flash, and in an instant, I was lying back in bed, paralyzed anew. Make some progress getting out of bed, trying to call for help, and BOOM I'm in bed, paralyzed again. I wondered through this how much time had passed, how was this happening, where were my family to snap me out of it? It must have cycled like this a dozen times. Eventually I woke up for real and ran down to the first floor. I felt ridiculous but I was shaking uncontrollably and sobbing so hard. It felt like something was doing this to me deliberately, and I connected that intention immediately to the shadow man I would sometimes see up there in the attic. I felt certain that, if I let myself lie there and give up, I would have suffocated to death. Irrational, but terrifying nonetheless. After a couple of years sleeping in the attic, my parents asked me to move my bedroom to our even-creepier basement to make room for my male and female cousins to have their own bedrooms. My old attic bedroom went to my male little cuz. He was 9 when he moved into the attic bedroom and I was 20. I can post about his experiences later if anyone is interested. Suffice to say, i never mentioned shadow people to any of the younger kids in the family, but lil cuz once said, "there's something in my room standing right over my bed at night, watching me. It was still there when i turned on my light so i just flipped over real fast and slept with my covers over my head." He mentioned this was extremely hot and sweaty but even so, he was too scared to remove his blanket. He said this happened a lot, and he consistently slept with his lamp on. I don't know why it was still there with his light on ,but would disappear when I turned on my light. Also, I never saw it approach that closely to my bed when i stayed in that room. Dad partially finished our basement with a bedroom and bathroom for me, but left the hallway and laundry room in between my bed and bath unfinished. Again I'd sometimes wake to see shadow guy in my room, watching and almost waiting for my fear-induced "invitation" to approach. At least that's how it felt. Additionally, I experienced "orbs" floating out of the corners of my eyes, like lights either floating, or else passing over the walls of my basement bedroom. Being below the ground floor, I would have car headlights shine through my semi-sheer curtains at night. This wasn't that. I always connected the orbs and impossible lights to the shadow guy, as they would happen within a few nights of each other and both gave similar spoopy "look-at-me, I shouldn't be here but I am" type of vibes. The basement was also creepy because it felt like "borrowed" space, like if I really made myself at home there, I would be sorry. There were many times i would physically run to my bedroom from the bathroom because i was certain i was being chased by something truly evil, high-energy, and utterly hateful. It felt almost doglike or like some other animal, except i would feel it follow directly over my left shoulder and at the back of my neck, almost taunting me and glorying in my fear. I would often feel the need to run up the stairs, feeling something was following right on my heels and willing me to hurry up and get out, that I don't belong down there. I grew up in that house my whole life and our washer-dryer are down there, so i had to use the basement often throughout my life, and so many times, day or night, I'd feel pursued or haunted. Just a "finish up quick and get out of here" feeling. Friends feel it, too when they visit the basement, and agree the attic is generally creepy. As we got older, my friends wouldn't come over to my house at all, let alone have sleep overs anymore. It was just too creepy. As a kid (maybe age 12?), i saw shadow people (yes plural) in the living room of the house. Their presence seemed more "vague" than the individual that would watch me sleep, like they weren't looking directly at me, but knew I was there with them and knew that I knew they were there with me. Again they only appeared to me when the lights were off and gave me the sensation that they're aware of me and willing to approach if my fear increased enough to allow them to approach. My older cousin was sleeping over at the time and saw them, too. He's slept over at our house a lot over the years since he's my big brother's age. He said he'd experienced them frequently when staying in our living room. That night was when i learned others in the house had had multiple experiences seeing the shadow people, too. Like I said, I can post about my family members' experiences if anyone is interested, and have several other creepy stories of my own over the years. Any advice or explanations are welcome!! I suspect some type of satanic rituals were done sometime in that house. There's a creepy room in the attic behind a makeshift door, where a table sits with chairs around it from the 60s or so. Also, as cliche as it sounds, that house's address numbers are 2, 4, 6, and 6, so if you add them up, they make 666. I'm not into the number stuff, but Dad's sister pointed that out when my parents first moved in over 30 years ago, and she told them not to buy it for that reason.

Why? Paranormal just means fake, or AT BEST unexplained. No story that claims a paranormal cause is a 'true' story, because no paranormal cause has ever been proven to exist - EVER! I prefer reality to stories that are so outlandish I can't suspend disbelief.

Thumbs down because you continue to use the word true to modify the word paranormal. Nothing paranormal has ever been proven to exist, so it is DISHONEST to call a story where someone attributes the cause to the paranormal as 'true.' The honest word to use would be 'unexplained.'

The word "paranormal" does correspond with the word "unexplained", however, he is referring to the stories as true, not the paranormal.
