How true the statement you made when you said that it is important to remember our past, not only the good, but the bad. Some groups now days are trying to erase things that "offend" them, but in doing so, we are doomed to forget lessons learned and repeat the horrors of the past.

Love the TV mini-series that was done on the Hatfields and McCoy's with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton! If you have not seen it you should!! It was playing on Netflix a while ago, don't know if it is still there or not. Rosanna did date a Hatfield, but the feud started when the two men were in the Civil War, they were best friends, when the Hatfield man (Devil Anse Hatfield) deserted to go back to his family. His friend believed him to be a trader after he left, and the affair with the young ones of the family just added fuel to the fire!

I am a McCoy. Squirrel hunting Sam McCoy was my Grandpa's grandpa. Most of our family is buried at Burnwell KY. My Grandpa and his mom and dad and many of his siblings. The McCoy family house that was attacked by the Hatfields is now owned by a scot who was also related. I use to have a lot of our family history but due to a house fire it was destroyed. My children are related to the Hatfield side. My ex husband's grandmother was niece to devil Anse. Her name was Emma Hatfield kinder. Her dad Smith was a twin brother to bad Elias. My ex was also related to Melda Hatfield KY. Married a Ball. Also her brother Basil Hatfield. Was living in Belfry Ky. Another brother was Valentine Hatfield and another was Wallace Hatfield. Many more as well. I wish I still had all of my information.

Me too! I am a McCoy by blood. My maternal grandmother was a McCoy! I really like graveyards and have hung out in many. I like reading gravestones and imagining what their life may have been like with what they leave behind. There's a Jewish cemetery near me. One man had Eat Dessert First on the back of his tombstone with a Banana Split and a Meringue Pie carved on it. I bet he was a fun man in life to know to have left that message behind! 😃 I have a pic of his gravestone.

Near the end of the video 13:15, on the stone of Col. John Dils jr, the death date of his wife isn't inscribed yet, and she was born in 1820. Surely she's not still alive? She'd be 200 years old.
