At the edge of the world, one person stands to face the mysterious foggy abyss that is the sea. This is the isolating, maddening, treacherous job of the lighthouse keeper. And although automation has relegated much of this harrowing work to occupational history, there are many bizarre, creepy and mysterious happenings that make up the lantern-lit library of lighthouse lore.
From first hand accounts of occult vandalism and ghostly restroom requesters at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, to the classic and captivating ghost girl hauntings and lost lighthouse keeper spirits of the Seguin Lighthouse, we explore the mystery and possible explanations behind the seemingly supernatural phenomena in the craggy mists of these iconic places, and discuss the kraken, fortean fog, and all matter of paranormal at the precipice of landly existence. Join us, won't you?
Also.. halloween decor preferences, Chris gets touched at night, and Trent Reznor is corpuscular

I’ve listened to metal since I was 13 I am so passive, forgiving/ almost the opposite of what metal is/ but I’ve been told I’m strong minded and not influenced by much so that’s just me- but I think people blaming music for their actions are just passing the buck so they don’t have to take responsibility for their actions

I've been into heavy metal from about the same age. I'm forty now and I'm the first person to help a little old lady with her groceries and chastise people for not putting their cart back 😂 Also growing up I was always around musicians and had many friends in local hardcore bands, and some of the greatest people (and most intelligent) I ever met were in that scene. People don't do bad things because of music, if you're inclined to be influenced in that way, it was going to happen one way or another. Interpretations like that live in your heart not in the music 👍

They've actually done a number of studies on this and they have show that heavy metal actually does promote a healthy emotional release, lowers cortisol levels and relieve stress, and they've also found the latest people who listen to metal have better focus and are able to think logically and in more complexity than those who don't. Which is why I listen to Cradle of Filth after a long shift. 😊

I am just discovering this podcast and I know this is from 2 years ago, but I wanted to share a "from the fog" story. I grew up in the country and to take out the trash had to drag the bin way up to the side of an unlit highway. One night there was an incredibly thick fog, couldn't see more than a foot in front of yourself. I literally found the edge of the highway by shining a flashlight at my feet as I walked. Just as I set the bin into place, I paused because I could hear this strange clicking noise coming quickly toward me from on the side of the road. I couldn't imagine what it could be and I started to move closer to it when suddenly a boy on a bicycle burst into the circle of my light. He was a teen (maybe 1 or 2 years older) but I didn't recognize him (and this was a very tiny town). Even more puzzling, he was wearing a suit. I literally jumped back so he wouldn't run into me. We were that close. But, he never so much as turned his head to look at me despite my having called out. He seemed intent and it was no wonder. I could not imagine how he was finding his way in the fog on this black night. Again, there were virtually no street lights as this was the country and this highway was curvy, poorly banked and very dangerous. I couldn't imagine what would motivate him to ride a bike in these conditions. Anyway, I just stood there at the road and I could still hear the clicking of the bicycle gears moving onward after he completely vanished back into the fog.

Did you guys ever see a picture of the La Jument lighthouse off the coast of France--if not look that up and other lighthouses off the coast of France, they get hammered by large storm waves. Also, like you guys mentioned, Tsunamis are different and are caused by earthquakes, the biggest of earthquakes are likely in subduction zones such as off the coast of Alaska and can generate dangerous tsunamis. The run-up (the height that the wave runs up to on land)in these areas can be large. Tsunamis can also occur in lakes--those waves are called Seiche waves (one occurred in Tahoe long ago that had a run-up of 100 ft or more--Lake Tahoe has two fault lines under it that form part of the lake). Seiches behave like when you make waves in your bathtub--the water sloshes around to each side of the tub. Tsunamis on the coasts of our land masses are dangerous in the amount of water that gets pushed onto the shore not necessarily because of the amplitude of the wave (wave height), it's more because of the wavelength, amount of water displaced, and wave speed that creates the danger. BTW if you want to see a cool wave or waves look at videos of the Cortez banks off of Mexico in the Pacific. Or check out "the wedge" at Newport beach California where waves join together because of refraction and make a huge amplitude wave that surfers love.

The Cascadia Subduction zone extends from Southern Oregon to the North side of Vancouver Island, not Alaska.
@amariebeaubien
@amariebeaubien Ай бұрын
@@ScoobieSwisher7413 Yes that is correct--for the Cascadia Subduction zone. The Aleutian Subduction zone is offshore of Alaska and can also produce quakes. Sorry I was not more specific. At any rate, quakes from either of these subduction zones can impact many different shorelines in the region, hundreds of miles long.

After they evacuated the island, the monsters came for the last old lady still there. Living underground on the island and eating dead bodies is not my idea of a good location.

music is either a mood enhancer or mood changer. in a bad mood? sad? depressed? change your music. my former boss, way back in his younger years, was district manager for a fast food joint in the city. when he first arrived it was a renowned gang hangout where fights would break out. I worked with him for years, he wasn't a hard ass who stood over you barking orders. if you knew your job he would leave you alone to do it. But the first thing he did was change the music. turned the volume down to where you could just barely hear it and tuned it to a country music station. he said these kids would come in as usual during the lunch hour rush, stand there for a minute and look around.... then turn around and leave. completely changed the atmosphere in just a couple of days. they started making money again, people felt safer. but the macdonalds down the street ended up picking up that slack and unfortunately had their first gang related shooting a few months later. and in regards to satanic influence, there's a video by Danzig, Mother, where the dude performs a satanic ritual, actually ripping a live chicken in half. pretty disgusting. so much for screw tube and their rules about abuse. it's ok as long as it's for their dark lord i guess....

"Satanic panic" and black magic is like street gangs compared to the mafia. One is disorganized and unprofessional, but still can cause trouble, and one is organized, professional and good at what they do, and gets results. Just like adept black magic covens, compared to teenage heavy metal dudes drawn in by the occult.
