Haunted Middleham Castle, North Yorkshire - History tour and some Paranormal Accounts

Middleham Castle is one of English Heritage's unsung Gems, nestled in the Yorkshire dales just south of Leyburn it is a Royal castle, the boyhood home of king Richard III and on his marriage to Anne Neville one of his favourite residences
it is also very haunted and i have conducted a number of investigations here, but this video concerns itself with a history and just a few of the many encounters that people have had there

It does make you wonder how anyone lived there with such decay. Makes you wonder what it looked like in its glory days. Really really interesting place architecturally and paranormaly.

this place is well worth it...aim for first thing at opening time - 10 am..or towards closing time 6pm - when the place is quietest...just looking at it from the lane by the side before it opens is interesting on a psychic level...besides there is a racing stables right next door and seeing the horses is a treat in itself

Just saw the notification and dived straight in Chris! Listening as I type, amazing video...fascinating and informative. I love the old earthen mound and ruins. Ps Chris at 4.43 there is mention of the Loftus family.....I wonder if there could be a relationship to the owners of the famous Loftus hall (supposedly Ireland's most haunted house). Originally the Manor was established and owned by the FitzRedmond family, Alexander FitzRedmond seemingly being one of the original Norman knights who landed at Bannow Bay/Baginbun in 1170. The Manor then passed to the Loftus family after the Cromwellian resettlement of Ireland in the mid 1600s. Interestingly, if you are in Dunmore East, about 15 miles from Waterford city, you can look right across the Suir estuary and see the hall clearly, only about a mile from Hook Head lighthouse which I understand is actually the oldest lighthouse in Europe. The lighthouse was actually inspired by the Pharos lighthouse in Alexandria, and built by returning Crusaders in the 12th century. Just a few miles east of Hook/Loftus hall, you will find Baginbun Bay. The earthen ramparts built by the Normans in 1170 to protect their landing site are still visible today. All in all, the whole area steeped in history and well worth visiting if you ever have a chance 😀 😉 😊.

@@eoindee7007I have seen a few videos of Loftus Hall. Boy, does that place give me the shivers! It comes across loud and clear, btw, that something or someone there does NOT like females. And that there has been A LOT of blood shed right outside their front doors and immediate vicinity.

you're going to have to hurry up, the arthritis is a lot worse now than it was at York....walking is becoming a problem - pain in hip, leg in the area of the two breaks and the metalwork and toes for some reason...

I went to visit the castle twice and found it very interesting as I was reading about the Duke of Gloucester before his marriage to Anne Neville the year I went was around 2007 . The second time I went to visited was 2018 and I still found it interesting but unfortunately never felt any ghostly visitation .

its a fascinating castle to be sure, i have Barnard castle coming up some time and an experience at Sheriff Hutton church back in 1990 - wish i could walk around Sheriff Hutton Castle someday much of the activity at Middleham seems to take place in the ealy morning - just when it opens or late in the afternoon, the periods when it is quietest. I was lucky and got on with the then custodian who turned a blind eye to our investigating there

i tend to shy away from identifying apparitions as those of notable people who once lived there... in direct answer to your question, i don't believe so......but i have had a few mentions of Richard at both Middleham and Barnard Castle..... but...Richard was a common name as was Anne and Edward...so it would need far more evidence
