I Honestly Prefer Both Films For Different Reasons. Each Film Is Essential & Exceptional In Their Own Ways. Both Movies Did A Lot Of Things Simultaneously Similar & Different To Appeal To Both Audiences Who Loved The Simplicities Of The Original & For Audiences Who Craves A Little More Originality & Specific Gritty Taste Of Ambience For The Remake & To Stay In It's Own Lane Rather Than Trying To Outdo The Original Like Most Horror Remakes Often Do With Other Huge Horror Franchises.

For me, it's the original. Low budget but you have a director with lots of creativity. The forest scene never really bothered me. After all, Raimi tried to go as far as he could to beat the Hills Have Eyes. Just like House (1977), you have a director who is willing to go up to 11. The remake? Well, it has good gore and some neat moments here and there. Just didn't care for it. It's certainly not the worst thing ever. I just prefer the original trilogy.

The thing about Evil Dead is, despite being inconsistent and made with small budget, it still pushes you over that edge, and Mr Raimi was relentless in his approach and storytelling. Greetings.

The best thing I took away from the original is the dank & grindhouse feel of it. It kind of reminds me of the original TCM from 1974. It just looks and feels "icky". I prefer the 2013 remake because I've been spoiled by films with top notch practical effects and good CGI.

One thing to note about "that" scene fro ED1. That was supposedly Rob Tapert's idea and not Sam Raimi's but also Raimi said in a British Interview around 1988/89 that even he felt that the scene was too much and even said he regrets even putting it in the movie. Probably explains why with Evil Dead 2 with a similar scene it was changed to be not so.....you know. Even then still doesn't change that working on that movie was hell

I've always maintained that Evil Dead (2013) is an adequate splatter film, but a terrible Evil Dead movie and I honestly have no idea why the remake gets so much love now. I remember when it came out and the response then was tepid. It was generally considered an okay, but inferior film. It's got some nice gore effects, but it never really engendered its own style; everything felt derivative and their demon designs were terrible. I can't forgive Fede Alvarez for changing the single most defining characteristic of a deadite--the white eyes. You are spot on about theme in the original movie. Sam Raimi was more concerned with style than substance. His original script was only thirty pages long. I think that's why I love it so much. It's fun and there is no message or commentary. There is a purity in that which I can appreciate.

I feel that the opening scene is supposed to represent the book of course, but shows why the evil was there too. I believe the book just follows the evil & that's why irregardless they would've had to succumb to the evil, because it was already there from the daughter. I feel the people just show the dad trying to help his daughter and found those occult people because they had the knowledge of how to save his daughters soul. Because since the dad was not possessed it shows that he didn't read the book, so he wouldn't know how to solve the issue like the kids did because Eric read the whole book and told the others about it. So I think it does make sense but it just wasn't long enough to get all of that info, that info comes with the knowledge of the rest of the movie and you have to think about it. But I like movies that don't explain everything to death & I feel that was his way of having faith in his audience that they would understand it Edit: and I feel they were in the cabin because he was trying to isolate his daughter so that way other people wouldn't die like his wife - and I also thought the branch scene was the most important part of Evil Dead because it shows how evil and sexual deeming "hell" is supposed to be

This is definitely one of your best comparison videos ever , here are a few things I wanna say 1. I absolutely love the practical effects from these films , if there is a reason why I rewatch them is because for me is just so impressive how CGI was not used , especially in the remake. I absolutely love the gore in that film . That tongue scene had me 😱 my respect to people behind this film 2. FUN FACT : Evil dead 2013 and The Conjuring were constantly taking each other’s number one box office spot since they came around the same time 3. I personally would rewatch more the remake ,I haven’t seen it probably in 3 years so I’m gonna give another go thanks to video 4. Are you sure you aren’t a fan of the remake ? cause the way you talked about it was so enthusiastic lmaoooo 5. I think Mia is one of the best final girls in modern era 6. NOT YOU DOING THOSE JUMPS . I always thought that they should make a movie about the making of The Evil Dead, similar to how they're adapting Gunnar Hansen's Chain Saw Confidential book about the making of TCM. I think anyone who saw the Evil Dead 1981 in the theater when it was new will prefer the original. It was quite a wild ride at the time, especially after the first half hour, which was the most amateur film one had ever witnessed at the theaters, then to have Sam show us what hew can really do. I don't think an imitation can ever take anything away from an original idea, as in the cinematography of the two films, the remake is clearly just copying the first one, but not needing to use half of their imagination on how to pull it off, cause they have more experience, and money. Also, Sam never finished college, he dropped out to make the Evil Dead.

@blastradius91362 жыл бұрын
The Evil Dead is still the best. Love the low budget 35mm grindhouse look (This movie is best watched on the original VHS from the 80's). I like how creepy the Deadites look with the bone white eyes and grey hair almost look like they are rapidly decomposing. I love also the fact that in certain scenes they used different actors and actress to play the demons giving them more of an eerie creepier look. Producer Robert Tapert played Possessed Cheryl in certain scenes because the actress could not be there for reasons. Love the loud visceral scary sounds the possessed demons make. Love the eerie 80's synth music. Lots of cool dutch angles during the more tense scenes. Almost everything is perfect about Evil Dead 1981 and why I love 80's horror. The Remake is also good. I love the how it recaptured the atmosphere visually from the OG movie and the music was also top notch. Nice classical old school horror music. The gore was on point. I luv the twist towards the middle end of the movie where Mia returns back to her human self and David who you think will be the hero gets killed. Actors were decent. Now the Bad. The deadites imo didnt look scary and they looked like typical run of the mill Linda Blair type demons. The way the demons were unleashed didnt make any sense. Kandarian Demon (Unseen Force) was missing through out most of the film. The "abomination" reminded me of a bad boss fight in a video game. But with all it's flaws I still thought this movie was better than most remakes of today.

Popping back into this video's comments to mention that Evil Dead is indirectly in a British psychological horror film called Censor which is set during the moral hysteria about "video nasties" in the UK. Historically, it almost seems quaint that Evil Dead was included in all of that, but watching it again recently, the "Forest Scene" is particularly tasteless, and it is one of the reasons I'm careful about recommending the movie to others. Sam Raimi says he regrets it in hindsight.
