Green Room and the first Creep are great picks. Would you rather not as strong on my list but still great for the insidious lyrical waxing of Jeffrey Combs. If you need a 46 I'd recommend 2010s Black Death for some historical horror to compliment the Witch

The 2010s for you were like the mid-1990s/early 2000s for my generation; horror movies are always the best (hopefully) when one is a teenager/early 20-something. And now we have new filmmakers like you to look forward to!

Nah dude. Horror is just in a straight up way better place now than it was in the 90s and 2000s. There were great horror movies in the 90s and 2000s, but the overall trends of those eras lead to way more absolute garbage in horror, garbage was the average, and the great movies were much more sparse. The 2010s started the trend towards consistent solid to great horror films coming constantly. New classics are coming out like every month or two. 2022 is straight up in contention for greatest year in horror. We are kind of in a new golden age of horror where we're getting so many great movies in almost every subgenre. Elevated horror is a big one obviously, but then a lot of modern thoughtful crowd pleasers, the trend towards popular horror also taking the time and effort to properly flesh out characters and thematic work, but also slashers have been having a massive resurgence, actually giving us new icons in the subgenre for the first time since maybe the 90s with Ghostface. The 2010s did have a bit of a prudish problem though in terms of having a lot of great horror, but no one wanted to make gory movies, and paranormal horror dominated the genre at the time, and so a lot of the horror was a little too similar. But gore has progressively come back into style as we've gone into the 2020s, and the kinds of horror have become much more varied, so now it kind of feels like we're getting the best of every era of horror, including the 2000s and 90s Also I'm saying this as someone who grew up in the late 90s/2000s and was into horror from a young age. The mid to late 2010s and all of the 2020s so far have been an incredible time for the genre

Another great video! You included a bunch of my favorites and gave me several new movies to watch. If I were to add anything to the list, it would be: Cabin in the Woods, Under the Skin, ParaNorman, What We Do In the Shadows, Lighthouse, and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. I remember watching and loving your 50s, 60s and 70s videos. Glad you came back to it. I wonder if you'll get around to the 20s, 30s and 40s after you do a Universal Horror deep dive. Lot of great stuff from those decades. Obvious choices like the German expressionist movies (Nosferatu, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, etc.), Lon Chaney Sr. movies, and Universal Monster movies. But, also, other true masterpieces like the Man Who Laughs, The Old Dark House, M, Cat People, The Body Snatcher, Freaks, and The Black Cat.

Yay long video! This was another great list and they were at least movies that I actually knew lol. Also I love that intro. I almost forgot about how big mustaches were in the 2010s. Used to see people drawing them on their fingers, stickers on their books, phones, computers, backpacks. Kind of feels strange looking back, especially when I see the trends of today. But this list was fantastic Kylie! Thanks again for another one of these list videos! Oh and congrats on 29k subscribers. Can't wait for when you reach 30k!

I was waiting for this. The 2010s (most notably around 2012) is when horror began its resurgence. Outside of a few outliers, it didn’t have a proper sense of direction in the 2000s. I believe the rise in reaction videos and the Internet/social media and new technology all being in a different place has given the masses a much better grasp and appreciation for the genre. It sort of makes you wonder how long it will take to shed the “torture porn” aspect from series like Saw and a lot of Eli Roth’s stuff (though I definitely understand the dislike for Terrifier).

I have a coworker who I recently fell out hard with over an argument. The dumbest thing is that this argument stemmed over an opinion on a movie. He was always just so prone to temper tantrums and putdowns over the most trivial things. He's 42, and I'm 25, and it just felt like I was genuinely being bullied by someone so much older than me over my feelings about movies. Long story short, your channel has been such therapeutic/comfort food for me in the fallout of that big blowup. I don't always agree with you, but its just so refreshing to hear thoughtful and intelligent discourse about horror and to hear someone unashamedly voice their thoughts without dealing with anyone's shit. It also seems to be hard to come by outside of people in their 20s rn, but so many horror fans say "new horror sucks, the only good ones are XYZ" and they just come off so ignorant. I love the 70s, 80s, 90s, but for real... 2000s and 2010s gave us SO MUCH. I love horror from the silent films of old to the modern extremist trash of now. I just wanted to say thank you for the comfort food programming and for letting me know that it's okay to LOVE things again. You rock 🎉

Yes us Patron know you too well. Once again a great top video list. I recently watched a lot of your other top lists to catch up. I don’t find too many movie I would rate differently. I’m a male and I’m 68. But I love movies. I love horror. I love the Haunted Hippie channel. So it’s easy to see that I enjoy a lot that you do regardless. So now I have a few to add to my wish list. I’m always grateful for that. I’m visiting for thanksgiving this year in Alabama. My granddaughter Lanette age 13 and I just watched your # 1 Ready or Not last night. Just an enjoyable time together. Now this is your longest countdown video yet! Shoulda just went for 100 lol I mostly remember the 2010s as my college years and my early 20s and I’ll just say.. it was the best of times.. it was the worst of times.. so cool that you had your finger on the pulse of the modern horror from that time. One thing I love about this list is that it has the most entries that we did Watchalongs for! Climax, the Meg, the Shallows, Lords of Salem, the Perfection, that’s five! Clearly this is your decade when it comes to your horror fandom and preference as far as favorite decade! Loved how “editing Kylie” popped up every now and then hahaha maybe it’s that beanie that’s making you forget your list! Hahaha jk I dig the look but you ditch it for the long flower dress look. I haven’t seen 4/20 masacre but my favorite 4/20 movie to watch is hands down the Big Lebowski! I’m glad to see movies like Life, a cure for wellness, Devil, the invitation, Tucker and dale vs evil, belko experiment, & tusk make the list! Some of these I haven’t seen besides all the top 10 movies of course lol but I gotta check them out! And I’m so down for a Robert Eggers deep dive! We can even do a Watchalong of the vvitch! But thank you for giving us this top 75 list! I really liked in the beginning how you numbered the 75-50 on screen. That helps me remember the list better tbh. You’re the best maggot mommy! Also I loved your little mustache in your finger haha I can grow my own thank you very much!

Great list, I was born in 1989 and saw Scream 4 (2011) in theaters. Later I saw Evil Dead (2013) for DVD, but I don't have my copy of that movie anymore. That Evil Dead 2013 came with The Evil Dead (1981), so I saw Original and Remake for very 1st time in my life. I grew up in 2000/2001 with Alien (1979), The Fly (1986), Hollow Man (2000)... Also I must mention Scary Movie 1 & 2. Who said horror movies can't be funny?

I am so glad that my horror fandom is rising throughout the 2010's, and I have seen the greatest ones that made me appreciate the horror genre even more.👏🏻 "The Conjuring" 1 and 2, "Happy Death Day" 1 and 2, "Oculus", "Insidious", "Annabelle Comes Home", "Scream 4", "Raw", "Overlord", "Hereditary", "Green Room", "Ready or Not", "Doctor Sleep", "The Witch", "The Cabin in the Woods", "Evil Dead", "Get Out", "Split", "It" Chapters 1 and 2, "Final Destination 5", "Krampus", "Better Watch Out" and "A Quiet Place" are among the horror movies that I watched during that decade, but the best horror movie of the 2010's, personally, is "Don't Breathe".💯

I love your passion for movies and the fact that you are always honest about how you feel about movies. I can not stand people, who just cater for other people, and don´t give their honest thoughts on the subject. That is what i am here for, to hear your thoughts and perspective on it. And it is of course completely fine to have different opinions, the world would be an awful place in my opinion, if everyone just thougt the exact same thing about everything in life. Then people would´nt be unique, and movies would´nt be either. Just keep being yourself Kylie, fuck what people think about that, as long as you are happy and enjoy what you are doing. :)

Nice video Kylie! I haven't seen as many 2010 horror films when compared to other decades, but there's still a bunch that I like/love.. Get Out has to be the best of the decade, no need to explain why.. but I will say that it's one of those films that I ruined for myself by watching it too many times in a brief time span.. I can't imagine voluntarily watching it anytime soon unless it's with someone who hasn't seen it.. Us is really good although liked it less after a couple rewatches.. it's still a great follow-up to Get Out.. there was no sophomore slump for Jordan Peele.. I LOVE Happy Death Day more than I probably should lol.. I remember when it came out I rolled my eyes and figured it was "just another stupid modern horror movie", but I watched it a couple years later after hearing good stuff about it and I obviously loved it.. I love Tree, I love Jessica Rothe she's so good in it.. it's simply a really fun film.. the sequel is okay, a step down but it's still cool because it's the same cast following the same story.. Ma is one of my favorites from the decade, it's so underrated and under appreciated.. Octavia Spencer is soo good in it.. Juliette Lewis does her thing and I like the younger final girl, forgot her name.. it's a pretty fucked up film lol.. it's unique and unpredictable.. great stuff.. Love Terrifier.. it's just old school old fashioned fun.. IT Chapter 1 is great.. didn't like Chapter 2 at all but I've only seen it once.. Doctor Sleep is solid.. I ended up liking it more than I thought I would.. Better Watch Out is awesome, but I've only seen it once.. definitely going to watch it next month.. Didn't like A Quiet Place at all, it's just not for me.. but I really like Bird Box for the most part.. I just saw Phoenix Forgotten for the first time earlier this year, kinda hated it lol.. I'm with you on not needing to see everything, less is more sometimes, it should be all about the theater of the mind.. but the film had no payoff.. Child's Play remake is okay.. don't love it, don't hate it.. I actually think Chucky looks and talks super creepy in it lol.. The Babadook is really good.. I forget the main actress name but she's great in it.. Hereditary is obviously really good.. Toni Collette is a GOAT.. not horror, but I think you'd really like Clockwatchers (1997) great indie flick with Toni Collette, Parker Posey and Lisa Kudrow.. Jamie Kennedy is in it too.. it's good stuff.. Lizzie Borden Took an Axe is a fun one with Christina Ricci and also has Clea Duvall.. it's a Lifetime movie so it has that undeniable TV movie vibe, but it's still quality.. it's campy with great acting, wardrobes, set designs, cinematography.. it was successful and well received so they followed it up with an 8 episode miniseries, didn't like it as much as the movie, but the performances were good.. neither projects take themselves too seriously.. Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart star in another Lizzie Borden film that came out a few years later called Lizzie.. this one is a film that takes itself seriously.. I didn't like it but it has an incredibly creepy and disturbing scene that I absolutely love.. Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story is another Ricci/Lifetime collab.. it's a true story, she's a reporter who goes undercover and gets admitted into a mental hospital to report on how bad this woman's asylum was.. Ricci is good in it but Judith Light steals the show.. another quality film but still has that TV movie vibe.. Okay I'ma stop here, but Haunt is one that has been on my radar for a minute, I need to check it out!

Great list! Only four major differences with my list: (1) IT being so high. I found it repetitive & not scary and put it closer to 75 than top 50. (2) Us, I personally have way lower for being overly convoluted, but unlike IT I didn't dislike it. (3) I had the Witch being top 10 but that's not a huge difference. (4) I have the Lighthouse in my top 5 and was surprised it wasn't on the list (not indignant about it, making a list is really hard). I just really loved it and it's one of my favorite films of all-time! Good stuff!!!

@@HauntedHippie that is crazy frl hahah. i have seen both movies get their praise tbh, but lemme tell you something. Midsomar feels higher quality. its very beautiful & well shot & bright, and its a very nice parallel to how weird and dark the movie is. But the story and the plot falls a bit short for me, and its more shocking than it is scary. The characters weren't developed enough for me. they focused more on the cult. Which is okay tbh.. However, I prefer the theme of the movie and its message, more than the movie itself if that makes sense. Hereditary was genuinely scary and left me exhausted after the movie, because you care more for the characters and the plot is fkn brutal on you. Also i had never seen a movie play with the concept of tourettes before and it worked so well.

My big issue with Midsommar is that it's basically just a wicker man copy. It's a good quality, well made movie, but has very little originality to it (which is a problem for me, especially in horror). I don't think Kylie has seen The Wicker Man though, so I can understand why she really likes Midsommar.

I'm with you on your comment about animation and how just because it's animated or a kids movie doesn't mean it's not horror. I never understood that argument of something being animated not being considered cinema or excluded from whatever genre it is because it's animated. Personally to me, animation isn't a genre. It's a medium used to tell a story through any kind of genre, including horror. Plus I also love Frankenweenie

I still need to see Saint Maude. While I'm a fan of Curse of Chucky because it gives us Fiona Dourif, I prefer Cult to rewatch. She gets to chew the scenery a bit more in that one. The 'surprise' in Crimson Peak was so unexpected lol11/14/23 The Invitation was such an uncomfortable movie to watch and so good. I'm so surprised The Witch didn't crack your top ten. If I had been someone to bet, I would've put it as your number 1, but definitely no less than 5, lol. I think perhaps you should do a deep dive on witches, perhaps make it more authentic representation of witches. February was the beginning of the Salem Witch Trials and they lasted through May. You could do a deep dive on The Witch, Gretal and Hansel, The Craft series, and maybe even Midsomar. Midsomar woiuld be a great one to do for May.

I miss the 2010’s, I relished the chaos of it all. And yeah, I was a teen during the 2010’s too, I’m a 1999 baby, and that was the decade I got interested in horror. Excellent list, by the way, as always! On a side note, I really appreciate what you’ve had to say about the societal issues that Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends had to tackle in your book breakdowns. Specifically by touching on the corrupt police system and that the mob mentality throughout Haddonfield isn’t too unrealistic given our collective outrage over George Floyd’s murder and the chaos that ensued. Makes me appreciate what the movies tried to say, but I also heartily agree with the points you brought up, in particular how the police are a bunch of scumbags. #ACAB
